kcchief19 swings away...and here's a chopper near the second base bag...tucker rocky is ranging to his left from short and snags it, flips to Raven Hawk at second to get MrBug708...but there's no relay throw and they only get one. kcchief19 is safe at first on the fielder's choice (he's got good speed).

Two out now and that brings up the big bopper, rightfielder heybrad and his 39 dingers...

Here's the pitch...heybrad rips a screamer toward first...Coffee Warlord gets some leather on it to knock it down, but that's the best the Hattrickers can do with it...infield single, runners on first and second, two outs...Schmidty, a good-hitting right-handed thridbaseman, coming to the plate with a runner in scoring position...can duckman pitch his way out of an early jam?

Schmidty drives a soft liner into shallow center...here comes Katon...and he makes the easy catch for out number three!

No runs, one hit, no errors two left on for the Elitists. No score after one.

First baseman Coffee Warlord will lead off for the Hattrickers, and he's simply one of the better hitters in the game right now. Let's see what albionmoonlight will do to shut him down...

The rock and the pitch...jam-job fouled high off the third base side...Shorty giving chase near the stands...going to be close...and he grabs it! Nice play there by the diminutive one. One away.

Here's Masked, the rightfielder for the HTs, hitting .264 but with some decent power...

Big cut by Masked makes contact, but he didn't get all of it...MrBug708 will have the easy catch in center...and he makes the one handed grab...two down.

In steps JeeberD, the left-handed hitting thirdbaseman whose hitting .254 and is a true hacker...

Two powerful cuts by JeeberD get nothing but air, and he's in a quick hole at 0-2, but then albionmoonlight tries to nibble a bit too much, and eventually loses him on a borderline 3-2 slider. That's a two-out walk and the first base-runner for the Hattrickers, although JeeberD's no threat to straight steal.

Here's the catcher and #7 hitter, targetpractice6. He's hitting .265 and can handle the bat fairly well...

Working the count, targetpractice6 fouls off a couple tough pitches before lofting a routine fly to center...MrBug708 drifts over a few steps...and makes the catch for the third out. The Hattrickers leave a man on as we go to the bottom of the second inning with no score.

Time for the Hattrickers to go back and kick their balls around.

Player Stats

While we're between innings, I figure I'd post this so everyone can see their stats. They look a lot like stats from the 80s rather than the 00s so adjust your expectations accordingly.

So, does a guy with a 562 OPS bring anything to the table, offensively?

(The lowest guy in ESPN's AL tables is Luis Matos of the Orioles at 610.)

Shorty leads off the Elitists 2nd inning, sporting a .250 average. But duckman makes short work of him, and rings up a strikeout! One down.

That brings in Huckleberry the catcher, hitting .257...

Huckleberry with a little flare over the secondbaseman Raven Hawk...and it drops in for a single!

Light-hitting Vince (.207) steps in with a runner on first and only one out...

...looks like duckman wants to go right after the 8th place hitter...inside heat...and he pegs Vince in the back of the thigh!!! He reels a bit in pain, glaring out at the mound...some of the Elitists are on the top step of the dug-out...but thing settle down and Vince goes to first. Looks like he's okay.

Duckman is fired up but now has runners on 1st & 2nd, one out, and albionmoonlight at the plate: a pitcher who can handle the battle pretty well. He may be bunting here, we'll see..

Hummm. 4.38 ERA in the 80s translates to...

8 + ... carry the 2...square root of... times 9....divided by....

approximately a 5.99 ERA.

Yeap...don't use me unless its mop up duty.

...key moment early in this one...but Swaggs hits a routine fly to center...Katon moves under the can o' corn...and makes the catch. The Elitists leave two, and we move to the top of the 3rd, still 0-0.

tucker rocky leads off the 3rd for the Hattrickers...he chops one wide of first...kcchief19 gathers it in and feeds albionmmonlight who wins the race to the bag for out #1.

duckman steps in, and he's woeful with the bat...he pops a weak foul fly and Huckleberry's all over it for a quick out #2.

Top of the order and Katon...shot towards third, but there's Schmidty! he guns it across the diamond to nail the speedy runner, and that's it, a quick 1-2-3 inning. To the bottom of the 3rd we go.

Hey, Coug, maybe I shoulda been more explicit. Next time, when any hitter reaches two strikes, including the pitcher, just go with conventional logic and have him swing away.
