What have you really shown? You're tough against ghosts? Ghosts for chrissake!

There ain't gonna be no ghosts at this level of play. The concerns about your level of competition will be proved true. This is this the big leagues, boy.

Also, you could stand to lose a few.

Excellent pick Fozzie, that was actually who I had in mind for my first pick.

The first female selected!

Questionable pick at best IMO. I would think that the top 5 or so would really have to be characters that transcend the video game industry into pop culture. I had to do a Google search to figure that one out. But to each his own I guess.

A little early for Aran, but seriously...the first female protagonist in a video game, and I believe the original Metroid for NES debuted in the '80s, which was a pretty phenomenal revelation. Solid pick, if it happened maybe in the late first, early second round, I think.

Seems like a reach, but she wouldn't have been around for his next pick, so it might make sense.

Meanwhile, in the stands, Pac Man munches on some cherries and waits.

Maybe a little high for Samus, but she's worthy of a 1st round pick imho. As has already been said, she was the first female hero in video games, and every one of her games has been really really good.

RH: Jim, this is your agent, Raven Hawk.
Jim: Did anybody draft me yet?
RH: I'm sad to say that the answer is no. You were a stretch for the first round, let alone the top 3 picks.
Jim: Oh, is that all the further the draft has gone?
RH: Yeah.
Jim: Anyways, why are you calling me then?
RH: My fees . . . they haven't been paid.
Jim: So? You don't get paid until after the draft, right?
RH: Wrong. If you check the contract, you owe me 20% of the expected fees as of yesterday.
Jim: I don't have that kind of money! I'm a freakin' earthworm in a spacesuit, man!
RH: That's not my problem. My problem is that I need to get paid.

RH: Hello? Hello? Jim?

The waiting is over.

I choose Pacman.

Began in 1980 and still going strong in 2004 with a game coming out for the GBA.

This character spawned other characters and games like Ms. PacMan, Pac-Land, Pac In Time & Pac Attack. Also appeared on every game console known the man including the ever popular Turbografix - 16.

24 years is hard to beat.

The question now becomes: when will Ms. Pac-Man be taken? Despite being an obvious knockoff, she was the first female arcade lead character. We saw what that did for Samus.

Sure, I don't know football that well, but I should be doing a Mel Kiper here for video games- you know "Top 10 Characters Not Taken", etc. The problem is that it might give away possible future answers so I suppose not.

I was wondering if Pac Man would slide to me at 5.

I need a franchise leader who has transcended time and platform, inspired countless others, and always arrives to defeat evil wherever it appears.

To lead my intrepid band of video heroes, I choose:

An excellent pick. Link has top three talent, and I'm surprised he slid down this far.

OK, folks, as per the rules we'll start enforcing a time limit tomorrow. To start with, the limit will be six hours, although hopefully we can shorten that up once we're past the first round or two.

So whoever's on the clock tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. eastern will have six hours to make a pick. The timed picks will last until 8:00 p.m. (no point expecting people to be here at night). Missed picks will be handled like the NFL: you keep the pick, but other teams can jump ahead of you until you use it.

If you want, pm me a few picks in order before your turn so that I can pick for you to keep things moving.

As of right now, ice is on the clock. Feel free to keep picking between now and tomorrow morning.

No kidding. That would be useful if we were doing a draft of only characters from Final Fantasy, though.

The rest of round one will be interesting, I don't think there are any more no-brainer picks.
