On another note, as I'm hitting day 3 soon, I'm slowly gearing up a pseudo defense mode I suppose. Built my cranny to help hide resources and such. Figure we'll be attackable soon, so want to have some backup plan.

At level 1 the cranny holds 100 units of each resource. As Teutons have a plunder bonus the cranny only hides 2/3 of the actual amounts against their raids. Gaulish crannies are twice as big as the normal ones.

What I understand is that every world (or servers, in our case world 5) runs for a finite period of time. So depending on when you join a game, you get more or less of a protection period which should be something like:
max (3 , square root of time since world was restarted)

Or basically, anybody who starts in the first 9 days of a world only get 3 days and everybody who starts after that gets a little bit more, up to 14 days.

Based on the graphs we can see on this page, the number of active players was at zero on August 30, telling us that world 5 was restarted only a seven days ago... Also, you can see that there were no attacks until September 1st...

I was reading somewhere that early on Teutons are where it is at, but as you become more developed the Romans or Gauls are more powerful. Gauls are better on defense, whereas the Romans are better on offense. The advantage the Teutons have is in raiding and in time to recruit troops. Once they become capped out by their crop production, their troops are no longer superior to the Romans.

That's a bit of what I thought. We are fairly early in the life of this world, so I'm not so sure the top villages represent what will survive in the long run...

will build mine to 340 this afternoon, pretty close to what I'd produce of about anything in 8 hours of sleep, but I will probably add another level very soon after that...

Pretty much. The strat I was looking at said to get everything to level 3, then build up your Main Building to Level 3, build a Rally Point and a Barracks to start making troops.

The problem is that I already built my Barracks and Rally Point right away, so I lost some valuable production time. For the most part, my resources immediately go to upgrading my production. Since it seems everything in the world needs Clay, I basically prioritize it like so:

Clay (Very slightly) > Crop >>>>>>> Lumber = Iron

I'm training one Legionaire currently, and I want to build up a force of like 5 of them to just go raid inactives for bonus resources. I'm not too worried about getting raided myself, because I usually don't have much in the way of resources in the coffers (I upgrade ASAP). I really want to get some Scouts going so I can just check out other towns near me. There are a couple who are pretty big, and I want to know what kind of military capability they have.

Yellow5 - what happened when he attacked you? You just get a message saying that you've been raided, and you lost X resources? I want to make sure there's no Urban Militia or something that I will have to deal with...I'd hate to lose a Legionaire in a useless fashion.

(The only reason I worry is because in a Combat Simulation of 1 Legionaire vs. No defender, my Legionaire was a casualty )

I had a notice that he was on his way to attack. He hit with 10 troops the first time, 11 the next. Even gave me a countdown as to when it would happen.

I had zero defense so he walked in and took whatever he could get his hands on. Got a message that he took x number of resources.

Cessna attacked me, and is also much smaller. I'm planning to just wait out the storm and wait to build troops.

edit: but now that I think about it, he grabbed stuff both times so it wasn't a clean sweep. Still had leftovers but don't remember if it said anything about things being saved by the crannies. If I hadn't deleted the mesages I would copy and paste here.

Each troop has a set amount of resources they can carry - I take that to mean that's how many they can carry off in a raid. For instance, my Legionaire can hold 40. Not sure if that means 40 of each, or just 40 (10 of each).

Well, I'll let you know how my raid goes -- I'm sending my one legionaire to raid my next door neighbor, who has a population of 2. He arrives in 10 minutes, and I'll report the findings here.

that edit is what I wanted to be sure. I mean, my cranny can hold much, much more than what I have in inventory at the moment, so any attack should result in no gain at all, at least in theory...

That's the point. My commander (new to the whole army thing) told the troops to defend the village, not raid it. So now we have to call them back, and then send them back out with new orders to attack.

Hey, we're new to the whole military thing...

I wrote to Cessna, asked him to stop attacking, and he did. My understanding is that is the general policy for farming.
