I thought for sure Solecismic would of released a "Gold" edition of their games by now. The Gold edition would contain both TCY and FOF2004 for one low price. But, maybe you can't do that with e-license games?

TCY, IMO, would seem the ideal candidate for a new release.

At any rate, it would seem we are probably 6 to 7 months away from learning anything substantive about this anyway, right?

Glad to hear some news on this. A nice welcome home from the work week for me. Now I can go ahead with what I have TCY wise for the Imperial League and not have to worry about cutting it short anytime real soon since it will be 6 months to a year it sounds like.

And I am surprised Jim isn't moving until October, I don't get to read everything so maybe that is wht I thought it was happening fairly soon.

Just to chime in- I vote for FOF2006!! I just don't find college football that enjoyable, and I work at a University. Granted, we have a crappy team, but it's more than that. With the college game, players turn over every 3-4 years. You just settle on a starter and . . . he graduates or goes pro. Bummer. With the pro game, you get to take some chances on young, but promising talent and work on developing them for 5-6 years. That whole volatility thing is wonderful!! So, please Jim, FOF 2006. Please?

Cheers,
Coltfan Chris

i agree with this wholeheartedly. although i do find bbcf enjoyable. but there's no way i'd buy 2 college games (i say that now although i probably would). but i'd rather have a pro one

Shameless little plug, but I know a little town about 45 minutes west of Ann Arbor that is looking to grow and would be a great spot to raise your new son Jim. The town has been in the media a lot lately and would no doubt be a fine fit with plenty of land to develop. Anyways, just a shameless little plug.

I would vote for a pro version also. I tried the demo of TCY and Bowl Bound, and just can't get into them like the pros. Of course I have been stuck on FOF 2001 and haven't upgraded to FOF 2004. I downloaded the demo and think I will make the jump soon. I like the interface better in FOF 2001 plus expansion, but after playing the demo of FOF2004 I think enough changes have been to justify an upgrade at $24.95 (which is more of an attractive pricepoint for a downloadable text sim).

Was hoping for a new product, but probably makes too much sense for an independent studio to work on an existing code base. My vote is for the pros.

FOF and TCY have so much room to grow that I see no reason for Solecismic to depart from them.

It's gotta be TCY. Pro Football, for the most part, hasn't changed all that much since the last release. College Football, however, has had a major shift in the conference landscape which makes TCY way out of date and in most need of an update.

My guess is that FOF2k5 would be a less "painful" update than TCY2.

if it turns out to be FOF, there needs to be a MP league import function no matter how long it takes

Wow, wopuld love to see a TCY update with MP. That would get me back in the sim league mode. Just think about having a fully functional pro and college sim league running simultaneously with players progressing from college into the pros. That makes me need a kleenex.

One of the industry standard rule of designing user interfaces that are clear and easy to understand is to not to present as much information as humanly possible.

It all depends on how organized the information is. If it's cluttered, yeah, too much info is bad. But if it's a spreadsheet, there is definately room for improvement over FOF2k4.

And don't make it take 25 years to sim a day.

Don't worry, Schmidty. There's bound to be some other football simulation produced someday with 3D graphics and customizability and stuff.

Heh. Maximum sarcasm.

I don't want all that crap though. I just want a game that doesn't make it feel like working. I see enough spreadsheets at work, that by the time I get home, I have no desire to fire up a game that feels more like a inventory list than an inventory list does.

I know that the guts of FOF are awesome and I still love it and will always support it, but I don't think it has to be so spartan. Heck, I'm not even asking for interfaces like GD puts out (although I like them), I just want something half-way pleasant.

I see this as a compromise solution. The "no news whatsoever" tact worked fine as long as I was releasing games fairly frequently. However, it has become too much of a distraction in and of itself.

I have been working on updates to both games. I have not fully focused on either and don't have anything close to release. I have also taken a lot of time off in the last couple of years, I've been helping design our new home as completely as possible. And before that, I just needed some time off, so I only worked on patches and tried a couple of new things (one of which is the free ftp program on my site).

For the next couple of months, I'm going to work on interface stuff. I just received my copy of Visual Studio 2005, and that will open up a few new things for me. Hopefully, by the end of February, I will make my choice, contract necessary artwork, and continue with the intensive programming. I do not have a perspective release date, though I do know that we intend to move sometime around October 1, so I will try and avoid that time period for the heavy work (or Angela will kill me).

And it is now April...............................................
