The Wings got Clark on trade deadline day in 1999. That's the same day (or at least within a day) they got Chelios, Ulf Samluesson, and Bill Ranford.

It's always easy to laugh at tragedy. Sometimes we need a reminder that these are real people. Real suffering.

Rumor is Buffalo offered Campbell for Kronwall straight up but Holland said give us Stafford as well. Good move by Kenny.

I just hope Buffalo isn't dumb enough to make that move. I like Stafford, and I think he can grow quite a bit. Campbell is good, but he's not great. He's a good offensive defensemen, but his decision-making results in quite a few costly turnovers.

Store on buffalonews.com is that Campbell's agent says this is his last game in a Sabre uni. I think he's full of crap if he's blowing that up in the press...

richards is signed for 2 more years. my guess is he is dealt this offseason before boyle's contract kicks in, assuming boyle's deal is an extension.

gives them more time, and allows for better offers

Mirtle is linking two "done deals" (both via Yahoo sports)

-Richards to Dallas (for Halpren, Mike Smith and Mark Fistric)
-Hossa to Montreal

sometimes I'm on the fence about Mirtle

but today, two thumbs way up

Does anyone else find it strange that three of the worst GMs of the past decade have all found work as trade deadline analysts?

What profound wisdom will Mike Milbury have for us regarding the art of the deal? How about Doug MacLean and John Ferguson, whose own train wrecks are still on full display in the sellers department?

Flyers are in the hunt for Jokinen now, that makes me happy.

The Hossa return looks to be Lapierre, Ryder, Grabovski, and a pick.

Those are still rumours as far as the source is considered.. at least that's my impression. It's a blog on yahoo, though an "official" blog. I think those trades will probably happen, but nothing official yet.

Do I have a problem?

Jeez, I barely recall the name Bryce Salvador. That shows how much I follow the Western Conference, I guess. Janssen wasn't playing at all, though, so I don't mind losing him. It's not like Janssen was going to play in the playoffs anyway.

I guess it's good that the Devils acquired another veteran defenseman, but I don't really think their defense has been that bad, considering that they don't have any big names back there. Hopefully, Salvador will be another really solid defenseman. Maybe we won't be seeing as much of Brookbank or Vishnevski now, but I don't mind. Martin, Rachunek, Oduya, Salvador, Mottau (I assume), and "bundle dick" Colin White would make a good top 6, I think.
