Yes. Metropolis was good, and quite stunning visually. I agree that the story was missing a little something. And the art, while new and interesting, was a bit too much of a departure for me. Best anime I've seen recently was Spirited Away. Absolutely incredible, but I don't get them trying to sell this as a kid's movie. It would have scared the poop out of me if I were a kid!

I grew up in southern Boone County in Racine. Just a hop and a jump from Mingo. I was heavily into Boy Scouts, including my Eagle, Order of the Arrow, and counselor at camps. Our District was a four county district - Boone, Logan, Mingo and Pike (from KY). So I knew and worked with a lot of people from Mingo.

My top three are comedies and not necessarily the best movies I've seen but they are my favorites.

1. The Princess Bride - fun for kids, funny for adults and Andre the Giant. Nuff said.

2. Big Trouble in Little China - wickedly clever, flying ninja's and an Russell doing a great John Wayne. Fun stuff.

3. Raising Arizona - the one movie that I'm surprised I didn't write. My twisted sense of humor all the way. "Do these balloons blow up into funny shapes at all"? "No, not unless round is funny."

Now, the "best" movie I have ever seen would be the Godfather. -
family, honor, vengeance, loyalty, scheming, and an overwhelming sadness that takes the fun away from the power they're fighting over. Powerful stuff.

Hey Dutch,

You didn't happen to be a friend of mine growing up in Fort Worth, did ya?

Me and my friends would draw up plans to run to the mountains of Colorado or New Mexico in case all hell broke loose. This was back when Ronnie Reagan was doing a lot of sabre rattling, and people some people were convinced that there was gonna be some sort of armed conflict.

It was a little personal thrill of mine to visit some of the towns where they filmed Red Dawn. The little town they used was Las Vegas, NM. The main street looked exactly the same as the movie, except for the tanks and concertina wire...

And the year-round maintenance guy at the scout camp I worked at in New Mexico was one of the paratrooper extras at the beginning. That was pretty cool too!

Since this is favorite movie and not "best" movie, it's a lot more fun:

I love Shawshank Redemption. It's one of those movies I have to watch if I'm flipping through the stations and it's on.

I'm a sucker for Bond movies and while From Russia With Love is better, Goldfinger is definately my favorite.

Speaking of being a sucker, I love big explosive action movies and T2 is definately a favorite along with others like the over-the-top Independence Day, humorous True Lies, and adrenaline pic Gone in Sixty Seconds.

Band Of Brothers..

Not a legitamite movie but my second go through of the series was in one sitting [odd breaks for this and that] so I will add it in. The box says 11 hours and 45 minutes and I started at about 1pm and finished at 3am the next day. I called in sick to work that day.

Saving Private Ryan and The Pianist were also very well done.
