Gen Lew Wallace commanded 3rd Division under Grant. He was order to move his division but claims he did not recieve the order or there was a foul with the order delaying his arrival.

Ooo...I saw his name in a list of whose who, but never put that together...
He played a much less formal role in the Civil War, but one nonetheless |

Gen James Macpherson. A shot in the dark but shot by Confederates. His name could be, a stretch, linked to a Big Mac. |

Nope.
You've danced around on the 11th Commandment one, so I'll throw some more clues at you. Who is associated with the Ten Commandments?

Moses, which sounds like John Singleton Moseby of Moseby's Raiders fame.

Does the third reference to the 3rd Army? Or the 3rd Corps?

Who played Moses?
And 3rd simply refers to the 3rd slot in the names list (so it formed a better sentence). But 2nd would be more appropriate for a clue in your way of thinking.

Moseby Raiders pioneered the use of guerilla warfare. They executed raids behind enemy lines were getting lost would be diastrous. So Moseby hits the commandant reference and the 'lost' refernence.

Did a google search for this but
Brig -General Robert L. McCook or Brig.-General Henry Bohlen Those are the 2nd and 3rd Union general killed in the war. But with the extra clue WSUCougar gave how about Gen Hancock for the 'burger third' hint. Commanded 2nd Corp Last edited by Whar : 06-17-2004 at 02:39 PM. |

Major Dundee is the only Civil War role I know Heston played but I thought Dundee was a fictional character.

This was not a Civil War role, but it has a huge link to the answer.

Yeah. I would never have thought to go from 11th commandment, to "Ten Commandments" to Moses to Charleton Heston to Ben-Hur to Lew Wallace.

Dola...found the info that would have made a direct link between getting lost and Lew Wallace, but it's something that only someone who's done a deep study of Shiloh would know right away:
"Shortly after, at Shiloh, General U. S. Grant told Wallace to march his division from Crump’s Landing to the battlefield. Unfortunately, he got lost and arrived at the battlefield too late and could do no more than assist the following day." My problem is I'm more familiar (aren't we all?) with battles in the eastern theater. |
