A quick note:

The seedings listed above are not random. I have played a number of rounds - added the strokes and assigned the appropriate seeds based on results. I'm not going to detail the outcome of the stroke play, but I will say don't be concerned if your higher seed. For example: I just ran 1 round (the first round of the day) for Silvers and it was a 67 so anybody can win this thing.

T. E. Almighty is also in the tournament. Sorry Almighty - don't know how I overlooked the highlighted name in the spreadsheet. I'll redo the seedings and we'll have a 3rd playin game.

(11) Brian Babson vs (6) Skip Donahue

Brain “putting butcher” Babson
is a very long hitter who has excellent control off the tee, even for a player who doesn’t hit a big drive. His iron game is great regardless of which iron he’s holding. He can chip well and he’s about average out of the sand. Sounds like a great golfer…however, he is called “putting butcher” for a reason! Babson has a hard time making a putt that is inside his shadow at high noon. Truly, Brian can miss a 3 foot putt, 2 feet above the hole. In fact, most weekend hackers can putt as well as Babson.

Skip Donahue Tee ball is average or a little below. He is ok with irons in his hand, and he’s a very good putter. Skip plays smart golf, knowing where the bailout points are on the course and he’s very consistent.

Hole 1 - 373 Yard - Par 4 : ALL SQUARE

Skip plays a solid drive and approach and is about 14 feet, he misses but makes the tap-in for par. Babson knocks his second shot inside of Skip, but his putt never scares the hole. He leaves himself 4 feet coming back and misses on the high side – thus handing Donahue the early lead.

Hole 2 - 502 Yard - Par 5 : Donahue 1 Up

Babson kills his drive and looks to have the early advantage on the hole. Skip being a good course manager lays up, and hits his 3 rd shot to 9 feet. Babson goes for it in 2, just barely keeping it on the back edge of the green. He’s faced with about an 80 foot putt (hide the women and children). Babson’s putt for eagle stops 13 feet short of the hole. Having not lost his turn, Babson proceeds to leave the second putt 6 inches short. He finishes out with a par. Skip sinks his putt for birdie and a 2 up lead.

Hole 3 - 388 Yard - Par 4 : Donahue 2 Up

Skip shows his consistency on the hole hitting a solid drive, approach and 2 putt for par. Babson destroys his drive as it travels 330+. He’s hits a half wedge on the green inside of 10 feet and actually makes a putt to pull within 1 hole.

After 3 holes the match stands at:
Donahue 1 Up

Hole 4 - 327 Yard - Par 4 : Donahue 1 Up

Skip and Babson are both good off the tee, and both hit good approach shots. Babson is only about 8 feet straight uphill. Skip is closer to 15 feet with about an 8 inch left to right break. Skip lines up his putt but absolutely kills it and the ball runs through the break and stops 4 feet past the hole He seemed to lose focus on the shot. Babson makes the 8 footer and squares the match.

Hole 5 - 166 Yard - Par 3: ALL SQUARE

Short hole plays tough. Babson plays to the middle of the green off the tee and then manages to 2 putt from 28 feet. Skip misses the green and can’t get up and down. Babson wins his 3 rd hole in a row.

Hole 6 - 516 Yard - Par 5: Babson 1 Up

Babson nearly reaches the green in two, but his ball hit hard and bounced through the green. Skip drive was significantly short enough to take the option out of his hands. He lays up and hits his 3 rd shot to about 14 feet. Babson’s chip stops 16 feet away. Babson misses the birdie putt and Skip makes his.

After 6 holes the match stands at:
ALL SQUARE

Hole 7 - 107 Yard - Par 3: ALL SQUARE

Skip misses the green and will be forced to get up and down. Babson steps up to hit his tee-ball and the wind picks up right as he addresses the ball, but Babson’s focus is so good he still hits the ball inside of 8 feet. Babson makes his putt for birdie and the lead..

Hole 8 - 431 Yard - Par 4: Babson 1 Up

Babson plays a solid hole hitting 4 pretty good shots for par. Skip hits a bad long iron approach, but recovers with a nice 2 putt to halve the hole.

Hole 9 - 464 Yard - Par 4 Babson 1 Up

Both players reach the green in 2, but both are left with long putts. Neither is up to the challenge and both take par.

Score at the turn:
Babson 1 Up

Hole 10 - 426 Yard - Par 4: Babson 1 Up

Another extremely tough hole and both golfers are happy to walk away with par.

Hole 11 - 373 Yard - Par 4 Babson 1 Up

Babson plays a solid big and straight drive allowing him to attack the pin. He’s approach is only 4 feet and he slips the ball in the hole. Skip played consistently, but only manages a par, dropping 2 back.

Hole 12 - 202 Yard - Par 3 Babson 2 Up

On the long par 3 Babson knocks it in the sand off the tee. Skip plays to the middle of the green. Babson gets out, but leaves himself 22 feet. He misses the putt. Skip cozey’s his up to about 3 feet and Babson concedes.

Score after 12 holes
Babson 1 Up

Hole 13 - 392 Yard - Par 4: Babson 1 Up

Skip plays solid tee ball, approach to 23 feet and 2 putts for par. Babon hits a great drive, approach half wedge inside of 8 feet and….

He misses the putt, as the ball never comes close. A make here headed into the long par 5 might have put the first nail in Donahue’s coffin.

Hole 14 - 565 Yard - Par 5 Babson 1 Up

Babson hits a huge drive, he decides not to go for it in 2 and lays up exactly 100 yards. Skip hits a good drive, a good second shot and his approach from 150 wasn’t particularly good. He settles for a 2 putt par from 33 feet. Babson’s approach is 17 feet, which…

He makes. Now he’s 2 up.

Hole 15 - 397 Yard - Par 4 Babson 2 Up

Skip hits a good drive and then approaches to 7 feet. Babson hits another huge drive and is left with a half wedge again. He knocks his 11 feet. Babson sinks the putt for birdie. Skip is faced with needing to make a 7 footer to halve the hole. He putts it beautifully and it drops.

Score after 15 holes
Babson 2 Up

Hole 16 - 16 - 402 Yard - Par 4 Babson 2 Up

Skip once again plays a solid hole. Good tee ball, good approach.

Babson hits a great tee ball and his approach is solid, but certainly not dramatic. If he could have stuck it in, he might have put himself dormi.

Babson misses his 22 footer and Skip makes his to pull within 1 stroke with 2 holes. The next hole is a par 3, thus eliminating Babson’s biggest weapon – the driver.

Hole 17 - 209 Yard - Par 3 Babson 1 Up

Both chose to be aggressive here. Skip missing the green shortside, and Babson putting his in the bunker. Neither can get up and down so the halve the hole.

Babson is now Dormi

Dormi means that Skip must win the next hole. A halve will give Babson the match

Hole 18 - 548 Yard - Par 5 Babson 1 Up

Babson busts his drive and it lands right in the middle of the fairway – really putting the preasure on Donahue. Skip hit a good shot, but he’s a good 45 yards back. Skip thinks about going for it, but elects to layup. Babson follows suit. Skip then hits a great approach to 12 feet. Babson responds by hitting his approach to 12 feet as well on the opposite side of the cup. Skip goes first as his ball is ruled away. Skip’s putt tracks the hole from the moment it leaves the putters face and drops center cut for birdie. Babson now must make his putt to prevent extra holes. Babson got a decent read by watching want Skips ball did. He hits his putt. And his trickles towards the hole. The downhill putt continues to inch towards the hole. As it loses moment it begins to take more break and looks to be sliding outside of the hole, but the ball catches the bottom lip and drops.

FINAL RESULT
Babson Wins 1 Up

(5) Jesse Ewiak vs (12) T. E. Almighty

Jesse Ewiak
has a solid to average golf swing. He struggles a bit with his irons, but his tee ball is typically good. Ewiak has many intangible qualities which makes him tough to beat, including focus and consistency.

T. E. Almighty Similar player to Ewiak. Not quite as good off the tee, but a better short game. Intangible qualities that make Jesse tough also exist for Almighty.

Hole 1 - 373 Yard - Par 4 ALL SQUARE

Almighty starts off with a good drive but his approach is poor, and he’s forced to try and sink a 25 foot putt for birdie. Ewiak hit’s a bad drive and is in a tough spot behind a tree in the rough. Jesse hooks a 5 iron around the tree and onto the green. This clutch shot allows him to pull out a halve.

Hole 2 - 502 Yard - Par 5 ALL SQUARE

Ewiak hits a good drive and follows it up with a good shot to reach the green in two. Almighty can’t match that as his second shot is short and right. Almighty tried to scramble for birdie, but even his great short game wasn’t up to the test. Jesse 2 putts and takes a 1 up lead.

Hole 3 - 388 Yard - Par 4 Ewiak 1 Up

Both golfers shots were almost identical on this hole. Both drives about 275, both approaches finished 19 to 22 feet from the cup, and both 2 putted for par.

After 3 holes
Ewiak 1 Up

Hole 4 - 327 Yard - Par 4 Ewiak 1 Up

Ewiak’s short irons leave him with a longer putt than they should have. He ends up 2 putting from 28 feet for par. TE has a 25 footer to square the match, but the drama was out of the putt early, as it was obvious he had pulled it off line.

Hole 5 - 166 Yard - Par 3 Ewiak 1 Up

TE hits ball to the middle of the green. Ewiak misclubs and comes up short. He’s then faced with an almost impossible chip, which he gets on the green, but it isn’t inside of TE. Jesse misses the 30 foot putt and concedes the hole.

Hole 6 - 516 Yard - Par 5 ALL SQUARE

Both players hit solid shots, neither has a real run at birdie and neither is faced with making a tough shot to salvage par.

After 6 holes
ALL SQUARE

Hole 7 - 107 Yard - Par 3 ALL SQUARE

TE, being the first to tee off, misses the green to the short side – making par a difficult score. Ewiak has a chance to capitalize here, but his focus isn’t good and he leaves himself on the lower shelf of the green, some 30 feet away. TE hits a fantastic chip to within 7 feet. Ewiak lag putts to 3 feet and makes his par. Almighty makes his par and we stay all square.

Hole 8 - 431 Yard - Par 4 ALL SQUARE

TE plays solid, not being overly aggressive and he safely reaches the center of the green in two. Ewiak, knowing he can take the lead with a big time shot – takes his 5 iron and knocks it inside of 3 feet. TE misses his 33 footer. Ewiak makes.

Hole 9 - 464 Yard - Par 4 Ewiak 1 Up

Ewiak had the advantage thoughout the hole, placing his drive in the correct spot to fire at the pin. Then hitting a good approach. However, he misread the 11 footer downhill and settles for par. Almighty misses the green with his approach, but he chips up to 4 feet and makes the par putt for a halve.

Hole 10 - 426 Yard - Par 4 Ewiak 1 Up

Ewiak hits a fine drive, but his long iron misses the green and he can’t get up and down. TE plays solid fairway, green, 2 putt par for the win.

Hole 11 - 373 Yard - Par 4 ALL SQUARE

TE misses the green from the tee, but it doesn’t hurt him as he manages par. Ewiak only manages to 2 putt from 28 feet for par.

Hole 12 - 202 Yard - Par 3 ALL SQUARE

Ewiak hits a terrible tee ball, trying to be aggressive. The ball ended up in the deep rough. Jesse attempted to hit a resourceful shot, but it was poorly played, clipped a tree and put him in even a more difficult position. Eventually the hole was conceded.

After 12 holes
Almighty 1 Up

Hole 13 - 392 Yard - Par 4 Almighty 1 Up

Ewiak catches his drive on the toe, leaving him a long approach. TE hits a solid if unspectacular drive, knocks it on the green and makes his 20 footer for birdie..

Hole 14 - 565 Yard - Par 5 Almighty 2 Up

Apparently TE was thinking about his lead and not his shot as he held on to the drive and pushed it into the right rough. The loss of focus would prove costly, as he’s unable to scramble for par, and Ewiak easily makes 5.

Hole 15 - 397 Yard - Par 4 Almighty 1 up

Both players easily par.

After 15 holes
Almighty 1 Up

Hole 16 402 Yard - Par 4 Almighty 1 Up

Ewiak hits a solid drive, as does TE. TE is away and he decides to fire at the pin – because a win on this hole would make him dormi. His 8 iron is caught dead solid perfect and the ball tracks the pin like a lazer. It hits 3 feet short takes two bounces past the hole then backs up to 4 feet. This clutch shot wins the hole as Ewiak can only par.

T. E. Almighty is dormi

Hole 17 - 209 Yard - Par 3 Almighty 2 Up

Almighty hits his tee-ball to the middle of the green. Ewiak, needing to win the hole to stay alive, fires at the pin. His ball hits 5 feet from the hole, but it doesn’t check up and it rolls 12 feet by. Almighty lags his putt up and then taps in for par. Ewiak must make his 12 footer, but the putt is hit a little firm and it slides by the hole on the top.

FINAL RESULT
Almighty Wins 2&1

Whit,

Sorry, I didn't catch that. I reseeded when I realized I left Almighty out. If Webb isn't listed he should be #7. I don't have my list in front of me, but Donahue is the only dupe and I know Donahue was 6 - that leaves you for 7. I'll try to clean up my earlier posts. Thanks for the catch.

Match #3

(16) Deacon Palmer vs (17) K. A. Ton

Deacon Palmer - not a long hitter but pretty consistently in the fairway, which will put pressure on opponents to stay in the short grass. Palmer's other abilities are pretty much middle of the road, but his intangibles are very good across the board.

K. A. Ton - A little longer off the tee than Palmer, but not as straight. The rest of the abilities are very similar as are the attributes.

Should be a good match up.

Hole 1 - 373 Yard - Par 4 : ALL SQUARE

Ton is just slightly inconsistent with his swing early, causing his approach shot to land a good 45 feet from the hole. He does manage to 2 putt for par. Palmer has a chance to win the first hole, but his putting isn’t quite aggressive enough and the 24 foot putt comes up a couple rotations short.

Hole 2 - 502 Yard - Par 5 : ALL SQUARE

Ton puts together another solid hole, but Palmer hits a good drive a great long iron approach and 2 putt birdie to go 1 up.

Hole 3 - 388 Yard - Par 4 : Palmer 1 Up

Palmer manages the hole well and gets a solid 2 putt par. Ton hits his approach in the right side bunker, but he manages to get up and down for par.

After 3 holes the match stands at:
Palmer 1 Up

Hole 4 - 327 Yard - Par 4 : Palmer 1 Up

Palmers lead was short lived. A terrible approach shot from 150 yards led to a 3 putt bogey.

Hole 5 - 166 Yard - Par 3: ALL SQUARE

Both players chose the correct club for the approach, but Deacon’s shot stops only 3 feet from the hole for an easy birdie. Ton gave his putt a roll, but he missed on the high side when the firm putt was hit through the break.

Hole 6 - 516 Yard - Par 5: Palmer 1 Up

Palmer hits a good drive, lays up with his second and knocks the 100 yard wedge to 11 feet. Ton follows suit, but his approach comes up short of the hole and spins back another 8 feet, stopping 27 feet away. Ton’s putt cozies up to 18 inches and he knocks in the par. Palmer drops his birdie putt on top to take the 2 up lead.

After 6 holes the match stands at:
Palmer 2 Up

Hole 7 - 107 Yard - Par 3: Palmer 2 Up

Deacon stay on fire at 7, with an iron approach inside of 6 feet. Ton pars, but still loses the hole.

Hole 8 - 431 Yard - Par 4: Palmer 3 Up

Palmer’s hot streak stops. He attempts to go at the flag from 185 yards and misses the green short side. He can’t get up and down and the bogey hands Ton the 8 th hole.

Hole 9 - 464 Yard - Par 4 Palmer 2 Up

Both players hit good drives, but again Palmer misses the green shortside, this time ending up in a bunker. Not only can he not get up and down, he misses his bogey putt and concedes the hole.

Score at the turn:
Palmer 1 Up

Hole 10 - 426 Yard - Par 4 Palmer 1 Up

K.A., who won two holes without doing much, wins his third in a row on 10, buy sinking an 18 foot birdie putt.

Hole 11 - 373 Yard - Par 4 ALL SQUARE

K.A. places his drive in perfect position to fire at the pin. Palmer misses the fairway, but is able to get on the green in two. Ton’s approach is on the right area of the green directly below the hole. He makes the 16 foot birdie putt and takes the lead for the first time in the match. This was a great example of course management by K.A.Ton.

Hole 12 - 202 Yard - Par 3 Ton 1 Up

Ton continues to strike the ball well. Another super approach. Palmer, regaining his composure follows suit. Both players are about 20 feet away from the hole. Ton, roles his putt up the hill, it takes the break and center cuts the hole for birdie. Palmer, needs to sink this putt, or he’ll lose a 5 th straight hole. He makes a good run and the hole and the ball trickles in on the low side.

After 12 holes
Ton 1 Up

Hole 13 - 392 Yard - Par 4 Ton 1 Up

Ton pieces together a good drive, approach and putt to rack up another birdie and to really keep the pressure on Palmer. Palmer continues to play clutch, as he follows suit and gets a birdie of his own.

Hole 14 - 565 Yard - Par 5 Ton 1 Up

Ton hits a terrible drive. His ball is way left and in the soup. Palmer responds by placing his ball in the middle of the fairway. Not a long shot, but in much better position than K.A. Ton is pretty conservative in his recovery and is left with an extremely long approach. Palmer lays up to around 125 yards. Ton misses the green with his approach, while Palmer hits to the middle of the green. KA’s chip is short. He misses his par putt. Palmer lags his birdie putt up to 2 feet, and Ton concedes.

Hole 15 - 397 Yard - Par 4 ALL SQUARE

Palmer hits his 3 wood off the tee and hits it 245 yards down the right side, leaving him perfectly positioned to attack the pin. Ton catches his drive off the toe and its short, but also on the right side. Ton tries to reach the green in two, but comes up short. Palmer knocks his shot inside 15 feet. Ton makes a conservative chip and ends up not losing his turn. He does sink the 16 foot putt for par. A clutch shot for Ton. Palmer is also clutch however, as he makes his putt for birdie and the lead with 3 to play.

Palmer 1 Up

Hole 16 - 16 - 402 Yard - Par 4 Palmer 1 Up

Both players easily par, both miss long birdie putts.

Hole 17 - 209 Yard - Par 3 Palmer 1 Up

Palmer hits his tee ball – in the bunker, opening a gaping hole for Ton to tie the match. Ton’s tee ball – misses the green short side. Both players are faced with difficult shots. Palmers ball plugged slightly and his out was well executed but the result wasn’t good. He’s left with a 30+ footer. Ton’s short game was excellent however, as he slips his wedge under the ball and is able to spin it hard enough to keep it inside of 7 feet. Palmer misses his putt Ton makes and we’re tied heading into the final hole.

Hole 18 - 548 Yard - Par 5 ALL SQUARE

Unfortunately, the drama that was built through the entire match was gone quickly on 18. Ton’s drive is hooked into the water. Palmer then goes back to his bag, puts the driver away and plays his 1 iron the middle of the fairway. Ton does a nice job of trying to get back into the hole, but Palmers par is sufficient for the win.

FINAL RESULT
Palmer Wins 1 Up

Match #4

(15) Scooter Long vs (17) V. T. Bub

V. T. Bub - a late qualifier for the tournament, Bub is a solid performer across the skills and attributes. As long as he stays in fairways and hits greens he'll be in good shape.

Scooter Long - short hitter and not particularrly accurate. He is quite good out of the sand, but you won't win often if your hitting a bunch of shots out of the white stuff.

Hole 1 - 373 Yard - Par 4 : ALL SQUARE

Neither players starts out well. Both hit poor drives and are forced to scramble right away. Neither can come up with a par and the hole is halved with a bogey.

Hole 2 - 502 Yard - Par 5 : ALL SQUARE

Bub hits another poor drive and is forced to lay up on the second shot. He misses the green with the 3 rd. Long hits a fair drive and lays up. His 3 rd shot is ok and he manages a 2 putt par. Bub can’t get up and down and he bogeys the second hole in a row.

Hole 3 - 388 Yard - Par 4 : Long 1 Up

Long hits a poor drive that misses the fairway. Bub hits a good tee ball but unfortunately it ends up in a divit. He hits a clutch approach – that snuggles up to the hole and leaves him just a 6 foot birdie putt. Long’s approach hits the green, but he can’t spin it out of the rough and it runs off the back. He chips up nicely, but it doesn’t matter because Bub makes his birdie putt.

Hole 4 - 327 Yard - Par 4 : ALL SQUARE

Bub tactically plays to the wide side of the green, avoiding the bunker and potential short side bogey. Long on the other hand combines his all around skills to hit a fine drive and approach, then dramatically sink his 30 footer for birdie and the lead.

Hole 5 - 166 Yard - Par 3: Long 1 Up

Long misses the green and ends up in the bunker. His scrambling ability and short and sand game aren’t good enough to squeak out a par, so Bub’s consistent play pays off here.

Hole 6 - 516 Yard - Par 5: ALL SQUARE

Neither Bub or Long can reach the green in two. Long hits the middle of the green, Bub misses the green. Bub gets on the green, but he’s left with a long putt, which he misses badly. Long pars and again takes a 1 up lead.

After 6 holes the match stands at:
Long 1 Up

Hole 7 - 107 Yard - Par 3 Long 1 Up

Long with the lead and honors hits his ball to the middle of the green. Bub attacks the pin, and leaves himself a simple 5 footers straight downhill for birdie – which he makes for the win.

Hole 8 - 431 Yard - Par 4 ALL SQUARE

both players miss long birdie putts.

Hole 9 - 464 Yard - Par 4 ALL SQUARE

Long misses the green with his approach and he can’t scramble out a par. Bub is leading at the turn thanks to a par.

Neither player is playing well right now, if one of them can shoot 1 or 2 under on the back, they will probably win the match.

Hole 10 - 426 Yard - Par 4 Bub 1 Up

Both players hit drives in the fairway. Long is first to play. He elects to fire at the pin with his long iron, but his focus isn’t good enough and the ball bounces over the back, but it’s sitting up and Long has a good bit of green to work with so par isn’t out of the question. Bub elects to shoot at the pin and win the hole with a birdie, but he isn’t clutch enough and his ball misses the green on the short side. Neither player can get up and down and the hole is split with a bogey.

Hole 11 - 373 Yard - Par 4 Bub 1 Up

Bub, normally a very consistent player had a bad hole, eventually conceded.

Hole 12 - 202 Yard - Par 3 ALL SQUARE

Long hits his ball to about 19 feet. Bub’s is a good 35 feet away. Bub lags up to inside of 1 foot. The par putt is conceded. Long’s putt is a little firm and it goes about 4 feet by the hole. It’s made coming back and the hole is halved.

Hole 13 - 392 Yard - Par 4 ALL SQUARE

Both players hit the fairway from the tee, but Bub’s approach is slightly blocked by a tree overhanging the fairway. Long is safely on the green with his approach, and Bub uses his course management skill to play the ball off a bank and have it roll on the green. Long has another birdie putt, but again he misses on the high side. Both players par.

Hole 14 - 565 Yard - Par 5 ALL SQUARE

Both player par – no real risk of bogey.

Hole 15 - 397 Yard - Par 4 ALL SQUARE

Both players are in the fairway off the tee. Long’s approach is pushed to the right and he’s left with almost a 60 foot putt. Bub’s focus however fails him and he’ can’t capitalize. Both players par.

Hole 16 402 Yard - Par 4 ALL SQUARE

Bub’s ball is 28 feet from the hole and Long’s is 17. Bub makes an aggressive birdie putt that falls, while Long’s comes up just short.

Hole 17 - 209 Yard - Par 3 Bub 1 Up

Bub with the lead – hits to the middle of the green. Long attempts to fire at the pin, but his long iron game isn’t up to the task and he misses the green. Bub was away and his 48 foot putt is nearly made, stopping only a half ball below the hole. Long’s chip gets hung up in the rough and just barely trickles on the green, leaving him a must make 24 footer. He hits the putt, it breaks nicely, but stops short of the hole

FINAL RESULT
V. T. Bub Wins 2&1

(7) Ty Webb vs (10) Stan Gunner

Ty Webb is the longest and straightest player on tour. His drives are unbelievably long and straighter than players he air mails by 100 yards. He’s also extremely good with his short irons, short game and putting, but his intangibles are lacking. He’s not a particularly well focused player, if he’s in trouble he’s not very resourceful and he doesn’t scramble well. He isn’t very good at managing a course or choosing the correct type of shot to hit. Another player put it best when he said, “You see how pretty his swing is and how well he strikes the ball and you wonder how he ever loses. Then you see him hit a driver off a tee and reach a fairway bunker, then choose to go for the green in two by hitting a wood from the trap with a big face on it and you wonder what the hell he’s thinking, and how does he ever win.”

Stan Gunner - a short hitter off the tee but pretty straight. A nice putter, and a good short iron game. Very good with knowledge of the game and the courses he plays, gives him an advantage over many golfers.
