Dropped my $5 on this at the local Gamestop the other day. If this were available on the PSP, I'd almost think about getting one. I'm sick of the 11pm or after game playing at my house...

Oh, and I also plopped down the $25 for PS2 NCAA rosters from the-wicked.net (you can pre-order on eBay). I got these a couple years ago, and they were absolutely great. It really helps with the immersion to have the real player names attached to the game, especially as the seasons draws out and you begin to recognize a lot of the names from watching the real games on TV.

For $25 you could have bought A/R or Sharkport and gotten the rosters free, then you could get the rosters every year. I can promise you these are the same rosters that you are paying for every year. Those people that sell them on Ebay are just taking them from people who do it for free and making money off of it. Last edited by Balldog : 06-13-2005 at 07:09 AM. |

Yeah, I only heard about that Sharkport thing in the past few days (when jbmagic posted the MVP Reader link).
Ah well...

For some reason I have had a hard time finding a sharkport or A/R in the store..
Is one better than the other?

I prefer A/R for XBOX, when I had Sharkport for PS2 it was a pain in the ass but I think that was more to do with my PS2 not being able to read blue discs. Your best bet is probably trying to find them online.

Sharkport also known as X-port doesn't work with the slimline PS2.
There's a thing called a MaxDrive that does the same thing, not sure who sells it, and who knows if it works with the slimline PS2.

I love my Action Replay for the Xbox. I'm going to play a Race for the Heisman with fake players though while I wait for real names. I think the random player name this year is a long overdue feature.

I also have an AR and really like it. There have been some people who have got bad memory cards with their AR, but have solved the problem by purchasing Microsoft memory cards.

Looks like 3 impact players on every team {warning signs}. Does Duke really have 3 impact players on their team?? I really hope this is implemented properly. |

I agree but then look at Bowling Green's and Colorado State's compared to Duke's.
Bowling Green QB # 4 OVR - 96 Bowling Green WR # 1 OVR - 90 Bowling Green ROLB # 5 OVR - 86 Colorado St. WR # 4 OVR - 91 Colorado St. FS # 3 OVR - 87 Colorado St. QB # 8 OVR - 84 Duke CB # 11 OVR - 86 Duke RE # 48 OVR - 86 Duke QB # 7 OVR - 82 Duke's best two players are rated pretty low, Bowling Green's 3rd rated Impact Player is better than Duke's top rated Impact Player. Don't know if that means anything or not though. I think the Impact Players for the most part are just the Top 3 rated players on each team excluding O'linemen. |

After reading about this, I'm really not concerned. From what I hear, impact players only begin to show their "impact" attributes after making successive good plays. If that's the case, the mere fact that the Duke players aren't rated very highly reduces the chances of this occurring (as opposed to a better team). I'm glad they kept it at 3. If they didn't, teams like USC would probably spiral out of "impact player" control after only a few plays. To me, it sounds like they're adding a little extra special feature but made a design decision to tone it down so it doesn't upset the game balance. Admittedly, I haven't seen it in action, but it makes me feel better. When I initially heard "impact player" I thought, ok, money-play/player central. It sounds like they've made a conscious decision to not let this feature take over the game.

Hopefully, but if say Duke's 82QB starts going ballistic in the 'impact role' on my 90+ DB's at say Florida State ... I'm going to cry foul. |

From what I've read, the higher rated impact players will have more chance of activating "the zone" and lower rated impact players such as Duke's or Navy's will have a much lower chance of activating "the zone." Also, from reading maddennation and Operation Sports, many people agree with the impact players for their favorite teams. It does appear to be the top 3 rated non-offensive linemen.
I've started playing NCAA 2004 a bit just to help with the wait for 2006. |

Cal's impact players:
Cal SS 21 97 - Donnie McClesky Cal HB 24 90 - Marshawn Lynch Cal DT 52 88 - Brian Membrane Lynch is the real deal, and I'm hoping for a huge season. McClesky is paying someone off at EA, because he's overrated every year (he's good, but he's no 97 for god's sake). I'm looking for him to go 'zone' and come up with miraculous picks every game. Brian Membrane's a talented player ... but he hasnt' done that much to really dominate a game yet. Then again without proven players at QB or WR, I'm not sure who else I would have put as an impact player. |

They did a great job with Tulane's impact players as far as talent goes, but #2 Tra Boger seems to get pulled by the coach a lot. When he's on the field, he's very good, but there were so many times I saw him standing on the sidelines.

IGN has some new videos of a game between South Carolina and Clemson played on Heisman level, and the CPU is absolutely tearing up the human (who isn't that great but still.) They show one great drive of about 10 plays in which the CPU runs effectively, passes effectively (mostly short passes), and even throws in a trick play that works. Also, the HB for SC went into the zone and it didn't seem to disrupt play too much. He just looked a bit tougher to tackle and this helped him convert a 3rd and 2.
I can't wait for July 12th. |

I don't know how I feel about this years version of NCAA. Sure the computer *might* play tougher but I can't get past this sinking feeling that after the initial "NCAA 2006 IS HERE!" the game will be just more of the same.

You know what? If it's last year's game with the slowdown problems fixed and the receivers no longer dropping passes like wildfire, I'm happy. If the CPU running game is indeed better, that's a bonus for me. I know people complain about having to pay $50 for what may be considered a minor upgrade, but I got a year of fun out of NCAA 2004, and I got a few months out of NCAA 2005, so another $50 of fun for this year doesn't bother me, although I should probably think about it a little more since I'll be unemployed in a month.

I don't mind the game play looking similar, as long as the pass percentage, slowdown, dropped passes, etc are fixed. However, in watching the videos it appears that the CPU really utilizes their star players, and that is quite different from past versions. Maybe I'm going to be let down, but this is my most anticipated game for the next month. Of course, I've already mentioned that I'm quite excited about in-season recruiting. |

Those are the same things I care about. If the gameplay is very similar to last year, but the passing is realistic, than I'm a happy camper. You should do a dynasty with the med school you went to.

LOL For a second, I forgot you were a Rutgers fan. I was starting to reply, "Well that would be Rutgers." Actually, I'll probably do a USC dynasty for fun and to get into the game. If the gameplay is solid, I might actually do a Rutgers dynasty once I get bored with my USC dynasty. I think it will be more challenging |

I've become a Memphis fan since my wife went there for undergrad, so I might play a dynasty with them. I'm a Tulane fan because they're the closest college football program, and my wife got her Ph.D there, so I might play a dynasty with them. In two months, though, I'll be in Pennsylvania, and the closest program will be Pitt, though, so I might end up playing a dynasty with them, even though I know nothing about that school. Oh, this will be tough.
