Standings - September 1, 1905
All signs are still pointing to a Cleveland/Pittsburgh series. The Pirates opened the gap a little as he hit Septmber and the Indians lead is the same (though the Orioles did get to within a gae and a half at one point during August).

Final Standings - 1905
The Indians coast to the AL pennant and increase their fial lead to 12 games. The NL isn't as easy as the Giants make a race of it. Going into the final day the Giants were one game back and neeed to beat the Reds at home to make it to a one game playoff but the Reds handled them 10-3 and send the Pirates to their first World Series.

1905 World Series
Rube Waddell shut down the Pirates in game one as the Indians led 2-0 going into the top of the 9th. After an error would eventually lead to the Pirates getting on the board with a wild pitch he would slam the door shut as the Indians take game one by a score of 2-1. Game two would be almost a carbon copy of game one with Harry Howell shutting them down this time and the Indians win 2-1 to take a 2-0 series lead. As we move to Pittsburgh one trend would continue. The Pirates would not score in the first 8 innings of the game. This time they would trail 11-0 but would score a meaningless two run for the 11-2 final. The Indians are now one game away from the championship. The Pirates lead 6-4 going into the 9th inning behing Red Ames. Bill Bradley would reach on an error to lead off the 9th. Roger Bresnahan follows with a single. Claude Ritchey would triple as both runners score to tie the game 6-6. Two batters later pitcher Harry Howell would single home Ritchey to give the Indians a 7-6 lead. The game would be 7-6 going into the bottom of the 9th where Howell retired the Pirates in order and the Indans win the World Series. Indians win World Series 4-0 |

1906 World Series
Cy Young starts for the Dodgers and rides an early lead to a 6-3 victory. Mike Donlin was 3 for 3 and only a homerun away from hitting for the cycle for the Dodgers. Christy Matthewson was the story of the game in game 2 ad he throws a 4 hit shutout as the Dodgers win 2-0 and now lead the series 2-0. Cy Young is back on the hill for the Dodgers in game three and his offense makes it easy for him. The Dodgers coast to a 10-2 victory and now are one game away from their first championship. The Orioles solve Matthewson early and score 2 in each of the first two innings. They ride that lead to a 4-3 victoy in front of their home fans and now trail 3-1 in the series. Cy Young pitches his way to a 6-1 victoy. Nap Lajoie added three hits for the Dodgers as they win their first championship. The Dodgers win the 1906 World Series! |

Standings - July 31, 1907
After the Orioles and White Sox started out leading the way in the AL the Indians cranked it up a notch and blew by everyone. They now have a 5 game lead as the calendar is about to turn to August. In the NL the Phillies got off to their best start ever but the Dodgers got off to an even better start. At one point the Dodgers were 31-8. They have cooled off since that point but so have the Phillies who now drop to third behind the Pirates.

The Indians still lead the AL but the Mariners and White Sox are keeping them honest. In the NL the Phillies have come on strong again but so have the Dodgers. The NL is the Dodgers' to lose.

Game one sees Waddell facing Mathewson. After the Indians took a 3-0 lead in the 3rd the Dodgers chip away and tie it in the 7th. In the bottom of the 8th a one out 2 run triple by Frank Chance gives the Dodgers a 5-3 lead. Matthewson hits Claude Ritchey with the first pitch of the 9th but then strikes out the next two batters before getting the final out on a pop up to short as the Dodgers win game one 5-3. Jack Powell out duels Cy Young in game two as he shuts out the Dodgers 3-0 to even the series at 1-1. Matthewson returns to the mound for game three and pitches his way to a 4-1 victory, his second of the series. The Dodgers lead 2-1 in the series with the road victory. The Dodgers offense comes out to play in game 4 as they coast to a 9-2 victory. They now lead the series 3-1. Game 5 goes into extra innings tied 1-1. In the top of the 13th Socks Seybold hits a 2 out RBI single to give the Dodgers a 2-1 lead. Both leagues have a dogfight for first. This could be the closest season yet. The Yankees got off to a historically bad 8-33 start (sub 200 winning percentage) but have since gone 30-33 (not great but much better than how they started).

The AL is still up for grabs but in the NL the Giants have stepped up and opened up a 6 1/2 game lead over the Reds (and a host of others close behind them). The only thing that seems certain is that the Dodgers will not win a 4th straight title.
