Yes...tons. I shoveled most of the driveway yesterday. I just now finished shoveling again - probably about 8' from the end of our double-wide driveway to where it is actually plowed in the street (plow did one lane, and it was not our side). So I don't know, something like 8' x 15' x 30"? Probably close to a metric f---ton.

Nice pics, tk. Our grill looked just like that too.

I just did a little calc...

Conservatively estimating...my driveway is 7 yds wide x 35 yds long with 2 feet deep of snow. So I shoveled 4410 cubic feet of snow. The density of snow is about 40% of water so thats 24.7 lbs/cubic foot. So in total I shoveled 108,927 lbs of snow or 54.46 tons.

I'm still not sure I have work tomorrow. My company's published policy, the last I saw, followed the Fairfax County government. If the government is closed, so is my company. Fairfax County government has been closed all weekend and according to their website, is closed tomorrow, too.

However, on a whim, I called my company's weather line this morning and they said they're open today (which doesn't agree with Fairfax County). So, I guess I'll see tomorrow morning if I actually have to go to work (even if I have to, might work from home via VPN instead of driving).

Light dusting. 30" is a lot even for Buffalo.

ABC 33/40 Weather Blog » Buffalo Snow Blitz…

Quote:
Incredible. Unprecedented. Historic. Astounding. These are adjectives used to describe an unbelieveable five day lake effect snow blitz that started in Buffalo NY on Christmas Eve in 2001. After an unprecedented November in which no snow fell in the city, December made up for it. On the 24th, 25.2 inches of snow fell in 24 hours, making it the third highest 24 hour snowfall total for the city and just one tenth of an inch from second place.

I'm working from home tomorrow. So at least I get to wake up at 9:00 and go straight to the computer, as opposed to waking up at 7:00, digging my car out from the snow, and then driving for an hour. Whew!

HOLY COW! We just go the no school because of snow call. Oh, we have about 1/2 inch on the ground with another 1/2 to 1 inch expected by the time school is out. Then it gets bad tonight. Total snowfall-- 4-6 inches.

I love living in Missouri.

The ridiculous asshattery from the Buffalo contingent is ridiculous.

A place like DC is just not setup to handle 20"+ snowfall, let alone twice in a winter. Just like you asshats wouldn't be able to handle 2 weeks of 90 degrees and 85% humidity, and that's standard for us.

Get over yourselves - the DC area doesn't have the infrastructure, driver experience, etc. to handle this - that's why it's a big deal.

last time I checked Buffalo hasn't won a Golden Snowball in a long time Syracuse usually wins it for the most snowfall in NY and I think Rochester took it last time we didn't win it.

I totally get the not having the infrastructure after living in pennsyltucky for a year and seeing the town shut down for 3 inches of snow.

BUT it's not a fucking snowpocalypse or snowmaggedon just because you're unprepapred.

* ACCUMULATIONS... STORM TOTAL SNOWFALL BY TUESDAY NIGHT WILL GENERALLY BE IN THE 6 TO 12 INCH RANGE... WITH LOCALLY HIGHER TOTALS POSSIBLE... ESPECIALLY NEAR LAKE MICHIGAN.

Of course, this usually means we get zero snow. It's when they say 'flurries, accumulation of < 1"', you better watch out.

pfft...bite me asshat.....90/85 is nothing in a lot of places in the states, even Buffalo. What, you think it snows all the time here?

I think you can trust me on this one, whatever happened to Buffalo in '77 (1977? 1877?) is not the only reason people make fun of you.

I find this highly unlikely. Unless the 2 inches of snow fell on top of an inch of ice. Can't do anything with ice no matter who or where you are.

It happened when I lived in State College for a year and there was no ice so I believe it.

Still not buying it.

Maybe from other New Yorkers or something, but I still have no idea what you're talking about.

"snows a lot there" is completely different. Because, well - it does snow a lot there compared to most other places.

J Carson and his ilk used to make fun of us from 77 to about 85.... A lot of people have heard of the Blizzard of '77. Surprised you havent. Over the last 20 years or so other places have been hit with more snow yet Buffalo still gets hammered about our snow problem. Last few years we havent been really slammed..I think it was 99 or thereabouts since we were heavily hit. Thats not counting our ice storm of a few years ago.

And yet when someone hears(beside you it seems) the name Buffalo, usually its snow related and sometimes the Bills or wings...

I bet if you took a silent poll at FOFC on "what happened in Buffalo in 1977?" less than 1/2 would be able to guess blizzard.

very possible....anybody younger than 30 most likey wont know unless they are from here. The older one might or might not...This place might not be a perfect place for it... Now they all know.lol..Plus there are a few Buffalonians here. But even a quarter would be a significant number. 30 or so years from now ask how many remember the so called snowpocalypse of '10.....

I think a area outside of the forums would be a better gauge of it.

Well, we have 30" already, and are in a band that projects maybe 15" more. Not exactly typical for the area.

I'm supposed to fly into D.C. late Wednesday night, arriving after the latest "WINTER STORM WARNING" is set to end. We'll see how that works out. I wouldn't mind a night in my layover city (Chicago), but hopefully the whole 5 day trip isn't wiped out.
