Yes, it's a different ballgame, which is why it'll take 50 years or more for a stable Iraqi democracy with a strong military to arise. After all, what's the point in having elections in Iraq if in the election they vote for a theocratic government party? And a strong military in the Arab world that doesn't try to exert power over the political government? 50 years may be generous.

not really, i think that after the CBS crap and a backlash against reporting stuff before its confirmed to the utmost degree youll find this to be more of trend until the pendulum swings the other way in a few years. Then eventually there will be another controversy and itll swing back for a few, back and forth, back and forth.

Whether we send prisoners to Israel (as done in the past) or we do it ourselves @ Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghaireb, is there really a difference? As a former American soldier I say I'm glad we have taken off the kid gloves. I remember hearing all the stories of Somalia where Americans were fired on whenever they left the compound, while the Canadians, French, and other nationalities would not. Why; because the Somali's knew that American's were under stict ROE (Rules of Engagement) orders. If fired on, you could only used measured force in your defense. When they tried the same BS on the Canadians, they took them out.

I am all for people's civil rights, but at the same time, I will take a reduction in my civil liberties, if it means that less soldiers overseas, and civilians here in this country have to worry that this day will be their last. Those that criticize the actions of the government, and our soldiers;
1. Do not have the same information that the government has for decision making
2. Most likely has not been in a situation where you head is on a swivel every moment of every waking hour.

Wake up one morning and imagine that at any moment, some benign object, any object could explode. Imagine every person that you come in contact with, smiling, neutral, or openly hostile, could, at any moment kill you. On top of this imagine that you are in unfamiliar surroundings. Next, imagine that you have contact with your children, and loved one's once a week, if your lucky. Then add the fact that you really don't know when this nightmare might possibly end and that there are people back in the States that are critical of the job you are doing! That's a day in the life of an American Soldier in Iraq right now.

As far as I'm concerned, we have a bunch of armchair quarterback's in this country that think, just because they watched CNN and read the national newspapers, they've got it all figured out.
