Preview:
Today we host #15 Arizona. They are playing excellent offense with a balanced attack led by senior QB Todd McMullen who has over 1400 yards, 61% completion rate, 11 TD's and 5 INT's. He is a talented passer. They also have a HB, M. Hicks, who has over 1000 yards and 10 TD's on the season already. They also have a stud LT in R. Burton. Their defense is equally talented and is led by MLB Dwight Leverette who has 52 tackles and J. Boyd who has 8 sacks. Overall, we are favored, but they will be a tough matchup. Our offensive coordinator wants to go with a gameplan that relies somewhat on the run. Given Randy's fragile nature the last few games, I agree with that plan now that Alan Hood is back. Our defensive coordinator wants to go with a balanced defense, and I agree to his gameplan. We are 7 point favorites at home.

We have a sell out today.
Our first drive starts out well, but after crossing the 50, Randy is sacked and fumbles the ball! Arizona recovers. They drive about 30 yards (due to 1 long pass), before we stop them. They connect on a 43 yard FG to take a 3-0 lead with 9 minutes left in the 1st quarter. We run the ball a few times successfully, but then throw it on 2nd and 3rd down and both times it is incomplete. We end up punting after a short drive. A poor punt gives them field position at the 45. The first play of their next drive, Jonathan Green intercepts it!! He returns it to their 40 with some nifty moves. Dwone Secules our Freshman cornerback was hurt on the play and is probably done for the day. We put together a 39 yard drive which Alan Hood finishes with a 2 yard dive off of right tackle! 7-3 game with 3 minutes left in the 1st quarter. We prevent them from converting a 3rd and 8 with a sure tackle by Jonathan Green. Our defense is looking good in the 1st quarter. On the 3rd play of our drive, Randy throws a quick out to Cliff Bell. Cliff jukes two defenders, breaks down the sideline and scores! 61 yard TD! We miss the extra point and it is 13-3. End of 1: 13-3 lead for us. They drive the length of the field mostly through the air on short passes, before Todd McMullen hits a 10 yard TD pass to make it 13-10. 10 plays covered 52 yards. Oh my. Randy is sacked on our first pass attempt of this drive, and his ankle is twisted. It doesn't look like he will return Bennie Brady leads a great 79 yard drive that overcomes a 1st and 25 with a 39 yard TD pass to Dick Sayers! 20-10. Bennie was 4 of 4 for 62 yards on that drive! 20-10. They score a TD to make it 20-17. We fumble the ball and give them the ball back, but then force a 3rd and out. Just before the end of the half, we suffer a bad injury as Jonathan Green has to leave the game. He is a big part of our defense.. Halftime: 20-17 lead. Randy's stats before he was hurt: 6 of 9 passing for 96 yards with 1 TD. We force a 3 and out on the first drive of the 2nd half. Bennie helps us drive down the field with a big 44 yard pass to Dick Sayers on our first drive of the 2nd half. A dropped pass (by Cliff Bell) on 3rd and 8 forces us to settle for a 35 yard FG which we make. 23-17 with 10 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. On their next drive, we suffer another big defensive loss as Tim Carney, our hard hitting DT, is hurt and will miss the rest of the game. We've contained Marcus Hicks, their 1000 yard rusher, most of the game, but he is heating up now. He helps drive inside the 10, but we stop them there and they have to settle for a 24 yard FG which they make. 23-20 with 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. Alan Hood has a few good runs, but we get stopped outside the 25 yard line and have to settle for a 46 yard FG. 26-20. End of 3: 26-20 lead for us. We stop them quickly, then fumble it, then force a 3 and out again. We've given up 3 fumbles today already. Not a good day in the turnover battle. Bennie is now becoming inaccurate and we have a short drive before we have to punt it again. We exchange failed drives, but then we get a good drive all the way to the 30, before Bennie Brady kills it with a bad throw into double coverage that results in an interception. Fortunately, we force a 3 and out. I'm very proud of how well our defense is playing against a good offense without a few key guys. We exchange short drives, and we get the ball back with 2 minutes left and a chance to run out the clock. Alan starts off with a 15 yard run. Good start to running out the clock! Alan follows that up with an 8 yard run, then a 4 yard run for another first down. Malcolm then gets a 12 yard run. We run the ball one more time, and then run out the clock! Game over. 26-20 win against the 15th ranked Wildcats! Pros: Alan Hood looked as good as ever. Very good defensive effort against a good offense. Negatives: Randy Collins is looking really brittle. Hopefully, he can work out in the offseason, put on some muscle, and be able to stay healthier next year. Let's look at the box score, and see how bad Randy is hurt. |

Injury Report:
QB Randy Collins suffered a nerve injury due to a severely twisted ankle. He is doubtful for the upcoming week, and I'm going to rest him. FB Renaldo Pugh is doubtful due to a broken bone in his hand. WR Randy Branch is probable this week and will play. OG Stephen Goss is out for the season probably. OG Troy Johnson is suffering from a severe pulled quadriceps and is doubtful. C Rusty Williams is suffering a pulled groin and he is doubtful. DE Terry Smith has bursitis and is questionable. DT Tim Carney tore a ligament in his arm and is out until probably the bowl season. DT Dwone Secules suffered a sprained knee and is probable for this week. FS Jonathan Green suffered a scratched cornea and is doubtful for this week. Lots of injuries. I'm going to have to go with a heavy run, ball control offense because of this. |

Notable Stats:
Randy Collins has a QB Rtg of 187.0 which is now 1st in the nation! Byron Woods continues to lead the nation in KRB with 28. Jonathan Green is tied for 2nd in the nation with 4 interceptions. Be also has 55 tackles on the year. Team Depth Chart Issues: Due to Randy's injury, Bennie Brady is the #1 QB with Jamie McGeoghan taking over the #2 role. Rusty Williams will be removed from the backup C spot, and that leaves us with a poor player as the backup C. Tim Carney is removed from his starting DT spot, and true freshman Joshua Lewis will get some starts. He is a highly touted recruit. Jonathan Green has actually improved throughout the week, and I'm tempted to start him, but I will rest him for one week. Therefore, Brian DeMulling will get the start. That isn't terrible, but Ben Bruschi will be our primary backup FS which is very bad. Polls: Despite the win, we remain #5 as there are still 4 undefeated teams. 1. Michigan 8-0 (55-21 win over Northwestern) 2. Wisconsin 8-0 (34-33 win over #18 Iowa) 3. Texas 7-0 (Bye) 4. Florida State 8-0 (37-24 win over NC State) 5. USC 8-1 6. LSU 7-1 (40-36 win over #21 Auburn) 7. North Carolina 8-1 (49-46 win over #24 Miami) 8. Florida 7-1 (33-27 win over Kentucky) 9. Ole Miss 7-1 (Bye) 10. Virginia Tech 7-2 (20-3 win over Duke) Preview: We play a mediocre Oregon State which is currently 2-5. Their offense is 49th in the nation and is led by QB R. Sherman who has thrown for almost 1700 yards with 9 TD's and 6 INT's. Their defense is 47th in the nation and is led by FS Kevan Stegall who is a talented player who has 52 tackles and 2 interceptions on the year. Gameplanning: With Bennie in at QB, we will try to lean heavily on the running game and specifically RB Alan Hood. Our defense is going to focus on stopping the pass since their leading rusher only has 400 yards. |

The Beavers have just over 31,000 fans here today.
They get a long kickoff return and we committ a personal foul that causes them to start on our 45. Not a good sign. QB Ray Sherman has a nice 18 yard scramble to convert a 3rd and 7. The 45 yard drive had 43 yards rushing and 2 yard TD pass from Sherman to Thompson. 7-0 Oregon State. Not a good start. They stuff Hood twice in a row, and force a 3 and out on our first drive. Joshua Lewis, the freshman DT, has a big sack to force a 3rd and 21, but they convert it with a 49 yard heave that Linton catches. Dennis Lewis finishes the drive with a 6 yard TD run to make it 13-0 with 8 minutes left in the quarter. Two dropped passes lead to a 3 and out for us. After exchanging a few short failed drives, we manage to drive to the 30 and hit a 47 yard FG. 13-3. After exchanging failed drives, we drive inside the 30 and hit a 46 yard FG. 13-6 game. They drive inside our 20, but Bill Hampton has a key sack to kill their drive. They connect on a 34 yard FG. Dwone Secules, our Freshman CB, is hurt on the drive and will likely be out for the rest of the game. 16-6 game with 3 minutes left in the 1st half. Alan has been bottled up so far, but he breaks off a nice 21 yard run to get this next drive going. We get stopped on a 3rd and 7 after a 5 yard gain, but go for it. Unfortunately, we don't convert the 4th and 2 and give them the ball on their own 40. Rodrick Garcia has a big sack to stop their drive as the half is about to end, then Joshua Lewis sacks their QB on the next play. Unfortunately, our MLB Clifton Lindell is hurt ont he play. Halftime: 16-6 lead for Oregon State. Our QB is out, but this would be a huge upset. Cliff Bell pulls his groin on the 1st play of the 2nd half. Alan Hood runs over 2 guys and gets a 16 yard gain on the next play. He follows that up with a 21 yard run in which he leveled the SS and hurt him. We have a great drive which is killed by a False start that causes us to need to make a 3rd and goal from the 9 and we can't convert it. They block our FG attempt! We force a 3 and out. We need to run it like we did that last drive.. We drive inside the 15, but are unable to convert a 3rd and 3. We make a 32 yard FG to make it 16-9. They drive inside our 30, but we force them to settle for a FG to make it 19-9. We drive inside the 20 due to extensive passing, but can't convert a 3rd and 5. We settle for a 37 yard FG to make it 19-12. We are staying in striking range, but we need to take the lead already... They return the kickoff for a TD! 84 yards on the short kickoff. 26-12 This is going to be an embarassing upset, if we can't do something soon. Wes Nelson with a 45 yard kickoff return, but a penalty will bring that back. We start out on our own 35 instead. We are stopped for a 3 and out. Our offense just isn't clicking today. We need a big play from the defense.. End of 3: 26-12 lead for Oregon State. Jon Stover has a key sack to slow down their drive, but Ray Sherman makes a 15 yard QB scramble happen to convert a 3rd and 12. He is killing us this game. He scrambles for 7 yards the next play. They finish off a 74 yard drive with a 1 yard TD pass by Ray Sherman. Sherman rushed for 26 yards and passed for 31 on that drive. 33-12, and this game might as well be over with 12 minutes left. No way can Bennie pass well enough to bring us back in this one. We are unable to conver a 3rd and 3 and our drive dies in our own half. The 4th quarter is just a disaster as we can't get any meaningful offense going. Game over. 35-12 loss Pros: None really. I guess Alan ran well, but he failed to pick up too many 3rd downs. Cons: The defense was bad, the offense was worse. We can't reliably move the ball without Randy in there at QB. We might have just blown the Pac 10, and if I do that, I won't be around long enough to see how Randy matures. |

Injury Report:
Randy Collins is still listed as questionable by the trainer, but I'm playing him (particularly because...) QB Bennie Brady suffered a partially torn tendon in his ankle in the 4th quarter. He is doubtful for a few weeks at least. FB Renaldo Hugh is still doubtful. WR Cliff Bell partially tore his groin muscle. He is out for at least a week or two. OG Stephen Goss is still out. OG Troy Johnson is now questionable but will rest for another week. C Rusty Williams has healed some and is probable for this week. DE Terry Smith is still questionable from his Bursitis. DT Tim Carney is still out. DT Richard Carter injured his ankle this week and is doubtful for at least a few weeks. MLB Clifton Lindell is suffering from Vertigo and is questionable. FS Jonathan Green is probable with his scratched cornea but could use a few weeks to be 100%. Depth Chart Issues: I'm risking it and putting Randy back in at QB as the starter. Bennie is out for this week as far as I'm concerned. Jamie McGeoghan will be the #2 QB. Cliff Bell's absence means that Lamar Woods is our #3 receiver. The freshman is raw and not that talented. This is a big loss to our offense. C Rusty Williams returns to the backup C role. I'm going to risk Richard's health and play him at DT this week.. LaVern Alexander moves into the starting MLB role due to Clifton's injury. Clifton will still play some as the backup. LaVern has been improving, and he might take over the starting role permeantly. Either way, he isn't a significant drop off. Finally, I move Jonathan Green back into the starter's role at FS. Hopefully, he doesn't exacerbate his eye. Polls: 1. Michigan 9-0 (41-6 win over Minnesota) 2. Wisconsin 9-0 (19-7 win over Indiana) 3. Texas 8-0 (45-17 win over Baylor) 4. LSU 8-1 (43-10 win over Arkansas) 5. Florida State (31-27 loss to Maryland) 6. Florida 8-1 (44-41 win over #22 Tennesee) 7. Ole Miss 8-1 (45-38 win over Alabama) 8. USC 8-2 9. UCLA 9-1 (34-17 win over Cal) 10. North Carolina 8-2 (42-24 loss to #16 Georgia Tech) |

Pac 10 Standings:
1. UCLA 6-0 (GRRRRRR!) 2. Cal 4-2 3. USC 4-2 4. Arizona 3-2 5. Oregon 2-3 6. Wash. 2-3 7. Wash St. 2-3 8. Stanford 2-4 9. Arizona State 1-4 10. Oregon State 1-4 (sheesh, we are their only Pac-10 win) We need UCLA to lose to someone else, and then we need to beat them UCLA plays Stanford at home, has 2 weeks off, then plays us at our place. Let's go Stanford! Preview: Our final game before UCLA is Arizona State. They are 5-4, but 1-4 in the Pac 10. Their offense is 15th in the nation and their defense is 31st in the nation, but turnovers have killed them. Their QB R. Moss has almost 2000 yards passing and their HB W. Perry has almost 1200 yards and their backup has over 500 yards. Our front 7 has to contain their rushing game today, and then get some pressure on the QB. Despite the debacle, our offense is still ranked 5th in the nation and our defense is ranked 19th and we are favored by 3 points in this game. Game plan: I'm hoping Randy can stay healthy and running an offense that is only slightly tilted towards the run. We are running our a blitzing scheme defensively that should aid in getting pressure on the QB. |

Arizona State has over 63,000 fans here today.
Randy threw a perfect streak to Branch on the first play, but Branch was held and it wasn't called.. Randy hit Branch on a 11 yard post route to convert 3rd and 8. Randy avoids the rush on the next play and hits Dick Sayers for a 46 yard bomb! Mike Witherspoon, our scrambling QB comes in on a 3rd and goal from the 2 (I didn't authorize that!) and makes a TD pass! 7-0. Interestingly, he threw to Lamar Woods, our relatively poor WR. 7-0 USC. They get a good kickoff return and start at midfield. They have 3 big runs and 2 little runs including a 4 yarder for a TD on an option play. 7-7. Randy is very wild passing on this next drive, and we don't get past our own 40 before we have to punt. Our defense plays well, and forces a 3 and out. A Holding call against OT Russ McGee negates a 43 yard pass from Randy to our TE. The next play Randy throws a perfect long pass to Lamar, but he drops it. The next play, Randy throws a pick to MLB Eric McGee. They put together a 9 play 61 yard drive (44 yards passing) which is capped by a 2 yard TD run by their FB. 14-7. End of 1: 14-7 Arizona State. Chukky drops a 3rd and 4th pass to kill our drive. Chukky also suffered an injury on the play and will not return. We force a 3 and out as we stuff the run twice. Randy helps us drive down the field nicely, but on a 3rd and 1 on their 36, Alan gets stuffed for a loss of 2! We have to punt. A 36 yard pass is the key in a 7 play 81 drive that ends with a 1 yard TD run by Dave Dickinson. 21-7 Arizona State. Randy scrambles for 3 to convert a 3rd down and I hold my breath as he is popped by the MLB, but he gets up ok. False Starts and holding calls are killing us lately. A holding negates a 19 yard pass and forces us into 3rd and 11 which we fail to convert. Meanwhile, they are running more option plays than we've seen all year, and they are executing well. They drive down the field methodically, but we stop them and hold them to a FG finally. 24-7 Arizona State. What is happening to my team? Halftime: 24-7 lead for Arizona State. Randy is definitely struggling with his injury. His line: 9 of 19 passing for 126 yards 0 TD 1 INT. They get the ball to start the half, and we stop them short of midfield. Their defense is quite good, and they are hitting our receivers hard. As a result, we are dropping quite a few passes. Randy hits Sayers for 20 yards to convert a 3rd and 11. Randy hits Dick Sayers for another 24 yard completion to help drive us inside the 20. Unfortunately, we are stopped on 3rd and 6 and have to settle for a 34 yard FG. 24-10 Arizona State. Their HB's are killing us on this next drive, making key run after key run, and grinding it down the field. Sam Cole drops an interception in the endzone. We at least stop them short of a TD. They connect on a 32 yard FG. 27-10. We must score a TD on this next drive.. We fail to convert a 3rd and 6, and don't even get across midfield. End of 3: 27-10 Arizona State. We get the ball back quickly, but we go 3 and out We force a 3 and out. This is our last chance to pull this game out. This drive needs to score to possibly save my coaching career... Randy overthrows his receiver on 3rd and 9. He is making a lot of poor throws tonight. We connect on a 49 yard FG to make it 27-13 with 8 minutes left. We force a 3 and out including 2 incomplete passes and we get the ball back with 7 minutes to go... On a 3rd and 10, Randy scrambles away from trouble throws it Dick Sayers down the field, but Dick drops it. We end up punting. They run the ball for 4 first downs before punting and eay up most of the clock. We get the ball back with a little over a minute left. Randy fails to convert a 4th and 10 and we give up the ball with 20 seconds left. Game over. 27-13 loss Pros: None. Cons: I wonder if I will survive long enough to see Randy develop. That loss almost guarantees that UCLA will win the Pac-10. It does guarantee that we won't win the Pac-10. We MUST beat UCLA. At least we have 2 weeks off to get Randy and the rest of the guys healthy.

Week 12 News:
Oregon State has gone on a winning streak since they beat me and are now 5-5. Perhaps, they just had key guys injured the first part of the year? Arizona State also picked up a win over Oregon 34-15. Oregon State's win was 41-34 over Stanford. Award Finalists were named: Randy Collins didn't make any lists despite his high QB Rtg. His total yardage was just too low I guess. Alan Hood didn't make any lists either. Byron Woods is a finalist for the Vince Lombardi trophy. Kerry Gibbs is a finalist for the Lou Groza Award. Warren Macklin is a finalist for the Ray Guy award. The Heisman Finalists have been named: QB: Dennis Barbaro of Rutgers! QB Russ Branch of LSU QB Bobby Glenn of Virginia Tech RB Chris Grant of Florida State RB Chris Howard, Wisconsin QB Raonall Kirkland, Ohio State QB Dan Lewis, Nebraska RB J.D. Osgood, Pittsburgh QB Lyle Scales, Texas RB Ladainian Schmidt, Duke?!? QB Jerry Tanner, Wisconsin QB Obafemi Williams, North Carolina QB John Woods, Michigan State. None of our other guys are finalists, and I'm not a finalists for the coach of the year. I've dropped to 12th in the polls. |

Preview: our offense is 7th in the nation averaging 488 YPG. UCLA's offense is 34th averaging 424 YPG. Our defense is 20th averaging 357 yards per game. Their defense is 26th averaging 26th. Their best player is QB Ronnie Prioleau who is a senior that has thrown for over 2250 yards, 67% complete, 15 TD's and 5 INT for a rating of 160.1. UCLA DE John Lane is a senior who is one of the best DE's in the nation. He has 8 sacks, 12 hurries, 42 tackles, and 12 stuffs. We have to watch him carefully. With almost all of our starters back and relatively healthy, we are 13 point favorites at home. Gameplan: Our offensive coordinator wants us to go with a very balanced 50-50 mix of pass-run. I agree. Our DC wants us to focus on stopping the pass, which I agree with. I want us to ruin UCLA's season, and salvage our own.. it's time to WIN! |

We have over 92,000 fans here today.
Ahh, they are starting TE Mike Zorn, a player I tried to recruit. He is a true freshman and he catches their first pass for 12 yards. We stop them on the next 3 plays and force a punt. Randy is sacked on 3rd and 2. We try to complete the 4th and 3, but our TE drops the ball. We turn it over on their 34. On 3rd and 1, LaVern Alexander stuffs the HB, rips the ball from his hands for a fumble forced and a fumble recovery. I knew he earned that MLB spot. We have a ball on their 30 as a result. Byron Wood runs over John Lane on the next play, and Lane is hurt! A holding call stops a 14 yard TD and forces a 3rd and 12. Holding really is killing our offense.. The next play, Randy Collins connects with Alan Hood for a 19 yard TD pass! 7-0! Will Simms has a 68 yard kickoff return, but on the next play Jonathan Green intercepts Prioleau's pass! Jonathan has been amazing for us this year. Hood is stuffed on 3rd and 1. We try the 4 and 2 from their 40. Randy scrambles 8 yards to make the 1st down. We get stopped just outside the 23 and settle for a 40 yard FG. 10-0 USC! End of 1: 10-0 lead for USC. Will Simms with an 83 yard Kickoff return for a TD 10-7. We need to do better on our kickoff coverages.. We run the ball for 52 yards on 3 carries, but we get stopped just outside the 25 and settle for a 42 yard FG. 13-7 lead. This time we tackle Will Sims at the 17. Ronnie Prioleau throws it for 3 big plays to get inside the 5 yard line, but our defense stops them on 3 seperate plays and they settle for a 21 yard FG. 13-10 USC. Randy has two big throws to get us inside the 10, and then Hood runs it twice including a 6 yard TD run! 20-10 with 5 minutes left in the half. Sims with another long Kickoff return to the 40. Prioleau drives them inside the 10 yard line, but a holding call thwarts a TD catch, and then we force an incompletion. They settle for a 33 yard FG. 20-13 USC with just 2 minutes left. Randy gets sacked on the first play of our 2 minute drill, but he gets up just fine. We end up failing to convert a 3rd and 9 and we punt to them with 20 seconds left. Halftime: 20-13 lead for USC! Randy Collin's stats: 11 of 14 passing for 181 yards and 1 TD 0 INT, 2 sacks for 3 yards. We get the ball to start the 2nd half. Randy makes a big pass to convert a 3rd and 9. Cliff Bell with a great catch on the play despite a hard hit by the safety. Alan Hood runs the ball quite a bit on this drive, but after converting a 3rd down, he pulls up lame. Our doctor doesn't think he will be able to finish the game. On a 2nd and 5, Randy is sacked and has the wind knocked out of him. Bennie can't convert the 3rd and 8. We make the 49 yard FG. 23-13 USC. Unbelievable, we give up a 92 yard kickoff return to Will Simms for a TD. He is their offense right now. 23-20 USC. We go 3 and out and have to punt from our own 20. A short punt gives them the ball at midfield. Jon Stover sacks him on 3rd and 7, and they have to punt after going only 11 yards. Randy with a pair of overthrows, and we have to punt. A good punt return gets them the ball at our 42. We force a 3 and out, and they end up punting it into the endzone. Malcolm Maston is showing all or nothing running right now, and it is nothing. Randy throws a little flair pass to Malcolm who jukes two guys and makes a 13 yard run after the catch to get the 1st. The next play Randy throws it short, but it is picked off and return 46 yards for a TD! What a terrible turn of events! 27-23 with a minute left in the 3rd. Malcolm has two big runs, and Randy hits Branch for a 27 yard reception just before the end of the quarter to drive us inside the 15. End of 3: 27-23 UCLA. Randy gets pressued on 3rd and 7 and is unable to complete it. We settle for a 29 yard FG to make it 27-26. I let out my held breath when we tackle Sims at the 22. Prioleau hits three big passes to drive them to the 21, then their backup back Gray gets a 21 yard TD run. 34-26. Randy hits a nice 21 yard screen to Malcolm to convert a 3rd and 5. Holy COW!!! Our 4th string RB receives a flare pass from Randy collins and turns it into a 40 yard TD reception! We fail the 2 point conversion and are down 34-32 with 9 minutes left. We tackles Sims at our 16, as he returns it 83 yards! Prioleau connects for a 16 yard TD on the next play. Our special teams are killing us today. 41-32 with 8 minutes left. We get stopped at midfield and have to punt. 7 minutes left. The first play, LaVern Alexander causes another fumble.. Tim Carney recovers it. Randy Collins connects with Randy Branch for a 7 yard TD on the next play!!! 41-39 UCLA still leads. 5 1/2 minutes left. I thank the football gods when we stop Sims on their 27... We force a 3 and out!!! 4 minutes left and we are going to get the punt. They boom a 53 yarder. We have it on our 16. Malcolm only gets 1 yard on the first play. Randy Collins hits Cliff Bell for a 34 yard gain on the next play, but Byron Wood is hurt! Not our LT! Next play, Randy is sacked. 2nd and 12 - Randy hits Branch in the numbers but he drops it. 3rd and 12 - Randy connects with Branch for a 19 yard completion. 1st and 10 - Randy connects with cliff bell for 16 yards. We are now inside the 20! Incomplete pass on the next play. 2nd and 10. Incomplete pass. 3rd and 10 - They hold the receiver.. no call. We attempt the 39 yard FG.. It's good!!!! 42-41 with 27 seconds left! Please don't let them return it... Will Sims returns it to their 35. Good enough. They connect on a 19 yard pass to cross midfield with 11 seconds left.... Bill Hampton sacks the QB on the next play!! That ends the game!!!! Game over. 42-41 win!!! Our season is saved! Pros: Randy made plays when it counted today and drove us into FG range. We beat the darn Bruins! Cons: What could have been.. if Randy could have stayed healthy, could we have won those games we lost.. |

I'm asking my coaches to report how they think everyone has progressed.
I'm really just going to focus on my stars: QB Randy Collins has improved his passing accuracy and passing touch by 19 this season. He also has increased his hands by 9, and his scrambling by 6. Here is a look at their full report on him now as well as his season stats:

Hmm, his passing touch and accuracy look the same on that report.
I just realized how bad his durability is. Hopefully, we can do some things to improve that during this offseason. The awards are about to be announced now that the season is over. |

Another "save the career" game against Idiots Out Walking Around. Good luck treating them like roadkill. Congrats on beating UCLA.
You didn't mention Sims in the preview. Did he just kill you, or was he doing that kind of stuff all year long? |

This is why I have to shelf the game until the rankings are worked out. Why on earth can any feasible AI still have FSU ranked #4 after getting WAXED by VPI? They didn't even drop! So after all this we really have no idea how good these team are or how they ought to be ranked. I am, however, really enjoying this dynasty |

Unfortunately, it is strictly limited to the offseason. You can see stats and interest levels of recruits during the season, but some people think the interest levels don't change til the offseason which is why I stopped commenting on them. Yes, Randy did bring on a nice save |

Yeah, I'm not happy with how the rankings are handled, but hopefully, I'll be able to continue this career after Arlie does the 1.1 update and rankings will be handled better then. I think I understand some of what is happening with the rankings for now. Hopefully, the rankings don't keep me out of a National Championship during Randy's career. I'm having too much fun to stop playing while waiting for 1.1 |

Injury Report:
Stephen Goss is probable for this game against Iowa. CB Dwone Secules is also probable. All of my guys will play today. Preview: Today we play #22 Iowa in the "Vitalis Sun Bowl." Iowa has an explosive offense that is 7th in the nation and they are led by senior QB Kerry Witcher. Kerry has passed for over 2400 yards, 63.7% complete with 15 TD's and 7 INT's. Their balanced offense also includes two different backs with over 700 yard rushing. C. Quinnie is their leading WR with 63 catches for 1064 yards and 10 TD's. Their defense is 12th in the nation led by cornerback Dave Brown who is a junior that has played well this year. He has 16 passes defended, 4 interceptions, and 1 TD. Their other CB has 6 interceptions. Our offense is slightly better statistically as we are ranked 6, but our defense is ranked slightly worse at 14th. It should be a close game, and Iowa are 2 point favorites. Gameplanning: We are planning on trying to have about a 50-50 run-pass ratio. With their multi-threat offense, we will mix up are coverages quite a bit. |

There are about 70,000 fans here today.
They get the ball first on their own 29. They convert a 3rd and 10, but Darcey Middleton has a nice 13 yard sack on the next play. They aren't able to make up the yardage and punt.. no they fake it! It's no good. We get the ball on their 38! Randy throws deep on the first play, but overthrows an open Branch. Randy overthrows his next throw as well, and we go 3 and out. Our Punter does a nice job of pinning Iowa back inside the 3. They put together a balanced 97 yard drive that is finished with a 42 yard TD pass from Witcher to Strong. 7-0 Iowa. We manage to drive down the field with a few good passes, but are unable to finish it and settle for a FG to make it 7-3. A holding call, then an ineligible man downfield kills Iowa's next drive and we force them to punt from their own 40. End of 1: 7-3 lead for Iowa. Cliff Bell drops a pass that would have converted a 3rd and 10, and we punt from right about midfield. Our punter pins them inside the 5. They put together a lengthy drive in which they ran for 64 yards and passed for 20, before settling for a 35 yard FG. 10-3 Iowa. Randy helps us drive down the field, but on 3rd and 1, he throws from across the line of scrimmage, and we have to punt from midfield. They put together a 40 yard drive, before we can stop them. They connect on a 41 yard FG. 13-3 Iowa. First play of our next drive, Alan Hood breaks off a 51 yard run in which he ran over one guy, and then ran away from the defense! That gets us inside the 10. 2 plays later, Alan Hood runs it in from 5 yards out! 13-10. Hood with 100 yards rushing in the 1st half. 3 minutes left in the half. We stop them after just 5 plays and 15 yards. We have just under a minute to try to get into FG range. Randy Collins is very inaccurate today. He misses his first pass, and the receiver drops it on his 2nd play. We end up getting stopped on the 3rd and 10. We end up giving them the ball back with 20 seconds left. Halftime: 13-10 lead for Iowa. Randy Collins Halftime States: 4 of 12 passing for 78 yards. 0 TD 0 INT. They force us to go 3 and out on our first drive of the 2nd half. They drive 70 yards capped by a 33 yard TD from Witcher to Herrmann. Our Nickelback blew coverage on that play. 20-10. We run the ball a few times, then Randy Collins hits Randy Branch in stride on a corner route, he burns the defense! 60 yard TD! 20-17. Their next drive ends as we stop them on 3rd and 5, but they connect on a 53 yard FG. 23-17. Randy overthrows a receiver on 3rd and 4 and we end up punting, but we have a bad punt and they get the ball at midfield. 3 plays later Mike Brees runs it in from 2 yards out. 29-17 as we stop the 2 point conversion attempt. Randy overthrows an open Dick Sayers on 3rd and 8. We have to punt as a result. This is by far Randy's worse game, except for maybe the game where he was hurt. End of 3: 29-17. We force a 3 and out. 13 minutes left, we need to make a TD. First play, Randy connects with Branch for 15 yards. Randy overthrows Branch on the next play. Randy throws a pick to FS Scott Young the next play as he overthrew Branch again! What a terrible ending to the season. 2 plays later Kerry Witcher hits his star receiver Quinnie on the streak for a 71 yard TD! 36-17 We put together a 11 play drive in which we ran it for 30 yards and passed for 50. The play ends in a TD pass to Branch. Randy was 4 of 5 passing for 50 yards on that drive. 36-24. Can we possibly pull it out? Only 6 minutes left. Wayne Cole, our CB has a big sack, and we force a 3 and out. WE get the ball back with a little over 4 minutes, but we are on our own 15 after a great punt. Randy is finally making some good passes, but it looks like it is going to be too late. They sack him on 3rd and 4 and we are unable to convert. That definitely ends the game. They have the ball with 2 minutes and their RB's have been hurting us all day long. We force a 3 and out, but even with timeouts we are down to a minute left. They stop us on a 4th and 4. They take a knee and end the game. 36-24 loss to Iowa |

Focusing back on our team, let's look at the seniors that we are definitely losing.
Star LT Byron Woods DE Darcey Middleton DT Tim Carney K Kerry Gibbs Scrub OG Mark Knight Starting FV Renaldo Pugh Star WR Randy Branch Starting OG Steven Goss Starting DE Bill Hampton Starting DT Richard Carter (therefore our whole starting defensive line is going) Starting CB Sam Cole P W. Macklin 4th string QB Witherspoon Backkup FB Fred Banks 4/5th WR Marquis Insley Starting TE Estes Henderson Backup T Lance Twiley Scrub OG Terry Bradshaw (liked his name) Backup C Rusty Williams Starter (for most of the year) MLB Clinton Lindell Backup OLB Sean Badger 3rd string SS William Tucker Of course, some of our juniors might leave early too. I'm most worried about HB Alan Hood and FS Jonathan Green. Of course, this assumes I somehow keep my job. |

I get my final evaluation for 2006.
Much to my surprise, the school's trustees give me a B for the season in Team Performance. I get an A for Recruiting and Talent Development Overall, they give me an A!?! USC doesn't seem to be firing me, and I get a bunch of offers. I turn them all down. The most notable ones were: Oregon, Pittsburgh, and Stanford. Our budget for the year is decreased by 70,000 dollars to 2.42 million. Good news, none of our coaches are retiring or leaving the team. Bad news: Alan Hood, DE Jon Stover (that one is a surprise) and FS Jonathan Green have all stated they are considering declaring early. I consider replacing my DC, but he did have many good weeks. I'll keep him for one more year. |

It's listed below that. Not sure why I had the aborted sentence. They beat West Virginia 23-6. |
