I updated the first post with the draft order after the end of the regular season. I hope it is all correct since I used an Excel file to calculate it.
It looks like there should be a coin flip to decide the 3rd and 4th picks since Cleveland and Tampa Bay had the same number of wins and the same strength of schedule. I don't know if there is any other tie-breaker considering Tampa Bay beat the Browns in Week 16 . . . just checked and head-to-head results don't factor in. Final draft order is still subject to playoff results. |

This is the list acording to Jim.
http://www.solecismic.com/playoff2006.php 2007 Amateur Draft Order 1. Oakland, 2-14, 142 SoS. 2. Detroit, 3-13, 134 SoS. 3. Cleveland, 4-12, 137 SoS*. Either this is a coin flip, or Cleveland holds the 3rd spot because Tampa Bay won the game between these teams. 3. Tampa Bay, 4-12, 137 SoS*. 5. Arizona, 5-11, 128. 6. Washington, 5-11, 131. 7. Minnesota, 6-10, 125. 8. Houston, 6-10, 129. 9. Miami, 6-10, 139. 10. Atlanta, 7-9, 117. 11. San Francisco, 7-9, 128. 12. Buffalo, 7-9, 147. 13. St. Louis, 8-8, 119. 14. Carolina, 8-8, 121. 15. Pittsburgh, 8-8, 127. 16. Green Bay, 8-8, 128. 17. Jacksonville, 8-8, 136. 18. Cincinnati, 8-8, 137. 19. Tennessee, 8-8, 146. 20. New York Giants, 8-8, 133**. 21. Denver, 9-7, 136. 22. Seattle (New England holds pick), 9-7, 116**. 23. Dallas, 9-7, 117**. 24. Kansas City, 9-7, 126**. 25. New Orleans, 10-6, 118. 26. New York Jets, 10-6, 120. 27. Philadelphia, 10-6, 122. 28. New England, 12-4, 127. 29. Indianapolis, 12-4, 128. 30. Chicago, 13-3, 110. 31. Baltimore, 13-3, 118. 32. San Diego, 14-2, 117. Notes * - Ties that can not be broken by opponents' records or conference tie-breakers are broken by coin flip. ** - Playoff teams are placed behind other teams in the draft-order tie-breaker. A team that goes further in the playoffs is placed behind other teams with the same record, as well. |

Yes, the initial post is incorrect by putting Denver where it did. Jim has it right, because Denver is not in the playoffs it moves up ahead of the other 9-7 teams who made the playoffs, regardless of schedule strength.

No problem. I wasn't aware of the minutiae of the tie-breakers so I'll defer to Jim's draft order.
I was just trying to get some idea of who was picking when. |

I've heard a lot of stuff about the possibility that Washington has to trade picks with Denver. Anyone know the details around that?

Wow... The Bills really helped themselves by losing to the Ravens... they would have dropped to the end of the 8-8 teams due to SOS...
I don't see them taking a QB like the first mock draft said.. I think Losman proved himself in the last part of the season. I wouldn't mind them picking up some O-line help of a DB to replace Clements who, it seems, inevitably will leave as a FA. Let's just hope they don't go off the board to do that (see: Donte Whitner) |

It's rumored that both Nate Clements and Adalius Thomas will be signing for the Patriots this year, so they will have no need for the likes of Mcauley or any LB you might be thinking of.

Not exactly. Washington has to give up the equivalent of a high 3rd round pick to Denver, IIRC. Something to the effect of 300 points on a value chart. Basically it was implyed that if the Skins drafted 20th, and the Broncos 25th, that they could swap picks. Quote:
From an ESPN article. I believe they have it phrased incorrectly, though, as I think the Skins will end up sending out the 3rd and 4th rounders. Cause the difference between where the 2 teams draft in the first round is ginormous. Last edited by stevew : 01-01-2007 at 01:27 PM. |

Ok, so assuming Long doesn't change his mind:
1. Oakland - Brady Quinn 2. Detroit - JaMarcus Russell 3. Cleveland - Joe Thomas 4. Tampa Bay - Calvin Johnson Who does Arizona take here? O-line, I would guess, but I don't know who would be rated highly enough for them to take. |

The Lions need to take a receiver, considering that most of their other first round receivers didn't pan out.

It really depends where he gets drafted in the NFL. His earning potential in baseball may well be much higher, considering what mediocre pitchers have gotten this offseason. I like him a lot, but unless you are sure he's giving up baseball, I can't see drafting him on the first day. |

Samardzija was drafted by the Cubs mostly on rep. His numbers and talent really aren't that great. He has a much, much better chance making in the NFL than he does making it as a major league pitcher.

Detriot...QB...Brady Quinn...Notre Dame -honestly i dont rate Quinn much higher then someone like a David Carr from a few years back *side note rant* why is there a coin flip for the 3rd pick??!??!?!? Tampa beat the Browns therefore the Browns get the 3rd pick period 3. Cleveland...OT...Joe Thomas...Wisconsin -the Browns will return with a top 3 pick next year and get that QB 4. I have never been super impressed with Adrian Peterson...I think Drew Stanton will end up as a top 10 pick a'la Jay Cutler. Greg Olsen could sneak into the bottom of the 1st round, very athletic TE.

The Titans have a chance to be a really scary team in a couple of years. They have 11 picks in this year's draft, and will be over $40 million below the cap this season.

I somehow missed this thread until now. I think reading "Oakland Raiders" in the title forces my mind to just kind of shut off.
Anyway, one guy I'm going to be keeping an eye on is Louisville WR Mario Urrutia. If he goes pro, he'll be the 2nd best WR in this class, IMO. Also I'm really really hoping the Lions don't end up with Brady Quinn. I don't think he'll ever be that great. |

No. They still have #80 available. It did belong to second overall pick Charles Rogers, but he's no longer with the Lions. Or in the league. It was worn by UDFA DeVale Ellis, yes that DeVale Ellis, this year, but I'm sure if, no, when the Lions draft Johson, they'll cut Ellis. Mike Williams' #88 might also be available come draft day.

He's a dumbass. It is much harder to make it in baseball, and he would be a first rounder in football and could make as much in his first contract.

If Samardzija doesn't pan out in 4-5 years of baseball, he still can probably pursue football at that time. Granted he would be a bit of a project, but being an athlete and hopefully staying in shape should help him. And the deal he got looks to be pretty sweet....especially if he makes the majors pretty quickly. I think anyways.

I think there is a world of difference between playing QB and WR. Hell, a local guy around here played minor league ball for 5 years. When he didn't pan out, he went back to college, rushed for like 7k yards and set the NCAA all division rushing mark. Managed to hang around the NFL long enough to get 10 years of free health care I believe. |

Extremely wise move. Worst case scenario, the Cubs let him go after 3 or 4 years shows he can't hack it in baseball, and all they'll want is half the money back that they've guaranteed him in the remaining years. He goes to the NFL having already earned $8 million, signs a short deal for a couple million or so to be a project WR. As others have said, you have guys like Furrey who come out of nowhere at a somewhat later age, plus the Michael Lewises and Pete Hunters who come out of other professions entirely to play in the NFL.
And best case scenario...his original $10 million is nothing in comparison to what he makes if he's even an average ML pitcher. If he turns into a stud? Geez...all this for not having to be drilled by NFL linebackers and safeties? Where do I sign? Last edited by Logan : 01-19-2007 at 11:22 PM. |

To eliminate our national debt, tax baseball players 90 %. They would still be making millions after taxes, but the government would get about 3 or 4 billion a year probably just from that alone. Baseball WILL be the first sport to have a guy who signs a billion dollar contract.

Interesting math to come up with the total salaries of baseball players being $300 to $400 billion a year.
I'll join the bandwagon in complaining about their salaries when there's even an ounce of effort put into bitching about how much actors/actresses make. |
