Referees and chain gangs! Looks like Madden 2010 is finally catching up to Madden '97!

Nice details with the QB towel implementation. I would much rather have that than substantial franchise mode improvements.

All that is missing is the ambulance to drive onto the field when a player gets hurt.

The first few screenshots of a new game are always rendered to fuck and the finished game never looks half as good.

I'm yet to play an EA game that looked nearly as good as ANY of the screenshots.

What's the deal with 90% of the videos/songs on youtube being "no longer available" ?

Are you at work? We block the youtube videos here and, though the website and the initial screen with the play button for the video loads, when you click 'play' it says "video no longer available".

For some odd reason though I've noticed that every now and then a video will work.

Reminds me of the screenshots they passed around 5 years ago when they were going to the next gen. Still waiting on that.

I want to know how you're going to ID what receiver to throw to when he has been depth-of-field blurred out...

Frankly, I wish screenshots would just go away. They are meaningless for determining the graphical quality of a game, as the game is not played statically and often can look much better / worse when you are actually running around a level. For another, when generated for print magazines you have to generate them at a higher-than-normal resolution, else they look like garbage when printed at anything above an inch or two across (you want 300 DPI at least for print, which means a top-of-the-page screenshot has to be like 2400x1500 to start with, if not bigger). And finally, people love to make gameplay claims based on them like I did, which leads to all sorts of interesting internet threads and rumors (you think they will REALLY be depth-blurring the distant guys when you are actually trying to throw a pass?).

My guess here is the engine can actually do all of that, but you won't want it on during gameplay for framerate or other reasons.

And heaven forbid you show something in a screenshot that you have to drop later for a variety of good reasons.

So I wish the concept of screenshots would just disappear from the marketing scene. Alas.

I find myself being vaguely optimistic about Madden 2010. But then, I felt the same way about 2009, and returned it after just a few games.

Is that because Florida is up by 10 on the road, or the three defenders sitting there all by themselves on the right side of the field and yet no one is open? It is USC, so I'm assuming the QB has no shot if he tries to take off there...

Oh wait, I see 2 receivers in the back left of the endzone with only one defender. Is it the guaranteed interception that will happen if you throw there? Or the guarantee that the defender on Y will make an amazing leaping INT when you lob it over his head for X?

It is nice to see X has his man beat, but again I'd love to know how that guy reacts when you try to hit X in stride for the TD.

Oh man, that may take more than a day to read. From a few of the posts I read, sounds like there is a cluster fck going on with the game.

I hate to break it to anyone discouraged by the NCAA screen and encouraged by the Madden one, but the Madden final product is going to look a lot more like the NCAA screen than the Madden one.

It's strange. Basketball video games used to really suck ass as far as reality goes, but there have been leaps and bounds in recent years.

Football on the other hand has gone backwards. I wonder why that could be... Gee, could it be perhaps that one has an exclusive license, and the other has competition?

Interesting timeline. Hired by EA in 2005, wrote Maximum Football in 2006. And because there *certainly* weren't any allegations about heavy workloads for EA employees around that time, it's inconceivable that he would have done any of the coding for that outside his home, because he'd have had plenty of free time to do it.

Right? Right?

I'm enjoying NCAA 09 and Madden 09 enough that I can skip the 2010 versions completely. I find NCAA is much more enjoyable game though. If it wasn't a hassle to hook back up, I'd easily just enjoy playing Madden 07 on my old xbox instead of playing Madden 09.
