Well, I didn't/don't think that she can make the cut. Obviously I have been proven wrong so far, so what the heck do I know. I am as big of a golf fan as anyone and I find this super-interesting.

I have really enjoyed her attitude about the whole thing and her demeaner on the course today. If she keeps this up, she will have gained me as a fan, whether she makes the cut or not.

Another great break to just miss the bunker. On the green with another birdie putt. This one of about 30 ft.

KWhit,

It was a great break, but I also think it was a good shot. If she was going to miss anywhere on that hole, it should have been in that bunker. Lots of green to work with from that spot, easier to kill the ball than try the run it up type shot.

Good course management there IMO. Also a lucky break. Sometimes the two go hand in hand.

Agreed, TF.

She's obviously a great course manager.

By the way, she parred the hole for those of you at work. -1 after 9 holes.

Another par. The toughest holes are coming up. If she get pars on the next 3-4 holes she'll be in super shape.

Good for her to get a par on that hole which did not suit her game AT ALL.

Still -1.

If she was putting the ball only slightly better today, she'd be three under.

Everyone figured the power game would be her downfall. So far it has been the flat stick.

Another good shot on the long Par3. A long birdie effort coming up, should be in great shape to make another solid par.

Good stuff.

I neither play golf nor follow it to any degree but doesn't it take two decent to good days to make the cut?

Jon,

Of course it does. None of us are saying she's going to make the cut right now. (I'm hoping she does, but that is irrelevant) Heck, Jon, she still has 7 holes left to go today. She could end the day at 7 over.

All I'm saying is that she's played a terrific round to this point. Nothing more, nothing less.

Almost another three putt bogey, but her 5 footer for par ran around the cup and finally dropped.

Talk about telling stats through 16 holes:

Reason she's doing well: Drving Accuracy 92.3% (awesome)
Resaon she's not doing better: Putts per GIR 2.071 (awful)

And for the record, she averaging 269 yard drives. That's 38th out of the 74 golfers on the course. Of course she's hitting driver while others are hitting conservative 3 woods, but it's the results that count.

I think this is going to be very interesting to watch how the PGA regulars decide to spin this at day's end (assuming she just pars out the rest of the day).

From the terms of public perception of the PGA tour, these guys are staring right into the face of a serious blow to their image. Right or wrong, for better or worse, I believe there'll be a significant perception of "how hard can it really be if she just did that".

She was just off the green on the first putt, but yeah, it took her 3 to get down.

With even average putting, she was 3 strokes better today. She can't be happy with the round.

She definitely exceeded my expectations. I expected a 74-75 type score. 71 is impressive. She is likely right on (or near) the cut line now. In my opinion, she'll need at least a 71 or better tomorrow to make the cut (but of course this is still total speculation).

TroyF, I disagree. I think she's got to be very happy with that round. she had putting problems for sure, but she didn't make ANY mistakes from tee to green. She missed only one fairway all day. If she can stay that accurate with her drives and ironplay, she'll be really happy.

Early projected cut is +2 of course there's still 20+ players who haven't even teed off yet. That will likely move down to even par by tomorrow, but I guess it all depends on the conditions.

The cut at this tourney is pretty regularly +2/+3. She is in the mix.

Yeah, but the greens are typically hard and fast. With all the rain, the players have been able to fire at the flags b/c the greens are soft, so I would expect a lower scoring average.

Yes it plays a bit longer too in the rain, but 7K yards is not long (even when wet) for the guys.

Wow. She did far better than I expected. I'm neither rooting for or against her, but from the sounds of things she played fairly well, especially considering the pressure that was on her.

That said, if the point of the whole exercise is for her to show she can play "just like the guys", then shouldn't she be evaluated just like the guys? She played well. Not great, but well. If we fawn all over her for being +1, that seems to be somehow sexist in it's own right.

The putting problems can be fixed if she can hit the approach shots closer to the flag. On the final nine she gave herself some awful long putts to make.

Yeah, but if any tour rookie makes the cut in their first tournament, I would say they did a good job. Not to mention in front of huge galleries with alot of people watching on tv. Of course she hasn't made the cut yet ...

I'm pretty sure whe would have to play from the men's tee. There's got to be a rule about that in the PGA rulebook.

Annika...Annika. What's there to say about Annika? I'd hit it.

There's no such thing as men's or women's tees on the tour. Typically they use the back tees on all the par fours, but often use different tee boxes through the week on the 5s and 3s to change things up. She plays the same tees as everyone else. For the US open and PGA, the guys often play off the women's tees on a couple of par 5's which are changed to par 4's to "protect the integrity of par"

Nice drive, down the left side of the fairway, stopped just in front of a bunker.

Cut is projected at one over par.

Edit:
Uh-oh, third shot found a greenside bunker from 135 yds.

Edit2:
Nice save, she's got a 4 feet putt for par.

Beautiful approach shot on the par 4 2nd, leaving her a 12-footer for birdie.

Edit:8-footer is more like it!

Edit 2:
BIRDIE! Wo-hoo!

Saved par at the par 4 3rd, after finding another bunker with her 7 wood. Very good bunker shot to 3 feet.

Two great sand saves. She's going for it today -- she's aiming for pins today , not the middle of the green.

I'm surprised. Now that she's back to par for the tournament, she could par in and make the cut, then worry about making movies on Saturday and Sunday. Granted, she's not knocking down any long putts, so this may be her best way to get a 68, but it's also the best way to get a 73.

I'm surprised, but impressed. She's obviously confident in her game after yesterday, so she doesn't seem content with just make the cut.

Ouch, just missed another birdie at the par 3 4th.

She found trouble off the tee on the 5th - she's in the rough on the right side. Bad tee shot.

Edit: it got caught in the trees and went only 192 yds. She knocked it out on the fairway but ran the approach shot through the green. She has a long chip/putt to make for par.

Edit 2: The par putt was well short, but she nailed a 10-footer for bogey.

The approach shot on 6th stopped just short of the green, and the chip onto the green was really bad - covered just half the distance to the hole.

Edit: Missed the long putt for par, tap-in for another bogey and +2.

Missed another green on 7th, she's found only two in regulation this round after hitting 14 of 18 yesterday.

Edit: the chip back went three feet past the hole. She should make the par easily.

Long, difficult birdie putt at the 202-yd par 3 8th. She left it 12 feet short of the hole. Missed the par putt to the right to go three over.

Par on the 9th, and now she's looking at a makeable par putt on the 10th.

Ouch - it lipped the cup, another bogey for +4 and a long way from making the cut.

OK, it's getting late for me. Good night, all of you.
