I went to high school with both Lauren Bergfeld and Rock Cartwright.

Lauren Bergfeld was on Beauty and the Geek The Beauty: Lauren Bergfeld

and I played softball for years with Rock Cartwright's (Washington Redskins) little sister.

As far as them recognizing me, Lauren recently added me on Facebook and last time I was in Houston I saw Rock and his family out to dinner and he smiled at me when I was talkin to his sister... so who knows if he knew who i was or not

The guy who won the PokerStars Sunday Million tournament last night, I guess. I've never actually met him, but we know each other. I don't know any really famous people.

My wife knows just about everyone in Fayetteville since she works at a doctor's office as a receptionist (one of the main team doctors for the Razorbacks is in this clinic). She routinely gets recognized by coaches, players, etc. Kind of weird. A lot of times they don't even know where they know her from. She was talking about David Lee (of Miami Dolphins fame) the other day recognizing her when she was out one day. My wife's answer to this question would probably be a lot different than mine, I guess. I don't think I could even guess who she would say. Maybe I'll ask her tonight.

Wait. I can go Solecismic.

I mean, he won't go, hey man, remember 3rd grade, but he'd recognize me if we bumped into each other again (I think).

For about 3 months, it was Michael Jordan. Tutored him once the summer of 1985, since he played golf all summer instead of going to class. Saw him in the clubhouse and called him a slacker. He took the test and the profs gave him a degree, no thanks to me.

Other than that, I can't think of anyone now. Probably Schmidty.

And I doubt he'd remember me, but I sat next to Rueben Mayes in history class at WSU, and knew him pretty well. He borrowed my notes regularly when he missed class.

About the biggest I have is Mark Thomas, ex-NC State, ex-NFL fringe tight end who played for Jax and the Giants in his career and now does drivetime in the afternoon on one of the local sports talk stations. I graduated high school and college with him. While I don't interact with him much at all on a personal basis, I did run into him several weeks ago for the first time in years and he recognized me, so it counts as far as this thread is concerned.

Bah, since we're using little-used NFL players...I went to HS with Matt Kranchick (PSU, Steelers, Giants, Pats) and Charlie Adams (Denver). I used to play basketball with Kyle Brady in the 90s, right before he left for the NFL.

I also coached against LeSean McCoy in basketball. Absolute beast.

My sister-in-law (and probably her family) knows tons of famous people personally, living in north Palm Beach County. Joe Namath is an old friend of the family; so is Greg Norman (his daughter and her daughter were good friends in school); Burt Reynolds and a few others. Her son married a famous physical therapist from Tampa and she is best friends with John Lynch and his wife, Linda. That's as close I get these days to celebritiness.

The Idaho Attorney General and Governor would recognize me, but I'm sure the latter wouldn't know my name. We certainly wouldn't have any "old times" to talk about.

But to strictly answer the question presented....maybe my father, only because his line of work meant that lots of people knew him in my home town.

Well, I don't know that I'd say I know the guy, but Ater Majok, the prized UCONN basketball recruit who has yet to play a game, went to the same night club I go to nearly every Saturday night, and I've spoken to the guy a handful of times.

A few famous (here) Spanish rock stars that i gigged with when i played in my band. Some were starting and got famous later, some were already famous, still talk with them from time to time when i attend a show and visit the backstage.

A few porn stars and some of the richest guys/gals in the internet porn industry i met or partied with when i stayed in Miami for 10 days in 2002, attending the biggest adult internet industry meeting there. Before that I knew most of them only by email, messenger or phone. It was fun to stay with them for a few days. Still talk with some of them by email, messenger or phone for business or just friendship, but later i diversified my business and i'm not that much into that side of the internet industry lately.

Well, the volleyball incident happened when we were both still in college.

Calbert was in the NBA for a long time, although he never got as good as I hoped he would. Still my favorite college b-ball player of all time.

I used to bag Bam Bam Bigelow's groceries in the late 80's. He always said "hi", but that wasn't much of aquaintance really.

Freddie Mitchell was in the same class with my wife, and she used to give him a ride home sometimes. He smiles and talks about old times when he sees her, but all I get is a friendly handshake when he's in my store.

Went to elementary school with Alanis. We went to different high schools but we had a common circle of friends so we would all run into each other on the weekends. Haven't run into her in probably 10 years, but she was the one who stopped me at grocery store.

Several current/former/fringe NHLers...including some of Pumpy's favorites.

Probably the only one who I would actually have a good conversation with is the guy who anchors the Buffalo Sabres telecasts.

Aside from that, I did have dinner with Manute Bol once, at a small table of about 6 people.

I guess a bit of humor or fascination came for me in that he had to sit at the end of the table: In a normal seated position, his legs would not even come close to fitting under the table. He had to sit in a kind of twisted, angular position just to eat his food.

So, maybe not so funny after all.

I went to school with Dan Brown's brother, Dan being the author of the Da Vinci Code. So, I knew him growing up but haven't seen him since then. His early books got a lot of play in the local bookstore, which I found funny at the time since they didn't seem like much of anything to me.
