Damn. #9 Boise State, needing a win to keep their BCS hopes alive, only led 13-10 at the half over Fresno State. Did they turn on the afterburnes? Oh hell yes.

48 2nd half points, a 61-10 final, and between you and me, I'd much rather see an undefeated Boise State over a 2 loss Ohio State in the BCS.

Of course you're on the short list about that, particularly when it comes to the casual viewers that make up a significant portion of the bowl season viewing audience. Most of those would typically rather watch someone they've, you know, actually heard of. Heck, even the usually whiny announcers tonight admitted they understood why tOSU was being treated as pretty much a foregone conclusion over Boise, which shocked the hell out of me.

And I say all of that having no desire myself to see Ohio State either.

That saddens me, I mean, it's not like Boise State's never been in a great, exciting BCS game, right? Oh wait? They have? When? Oh yeah, the Fiesta Bowl.

If they're going to value name over rankings and results, then they're not the BCS, they're just a higher profile bowl then normal.

That ended the tears. 4 INT's returned for TD's for ASU against UCLA.

Mother Nature must hate GT. Rain, and quite possibly lots of it, forecast for the game here in Athens tomorrow

We have a ridiculous amount of trouble hanging on to the ball when it's dry, I shudder to think how many times we might turn it over tomorrow if it's wet. And if Jaybo were to have to come on in relief? Well, what's the NCAA record for fumbles in a game?

1995 - 5-6 even though we had All American CB Aaron Beasley plus the rest of the guys that would lead the country in just about every defensive statistic in 1996.

1998 - 8-4 with a bowl loss despite several guys that went on to have pretty good success in the NFL like: Marc Bulger, Jerry Porter, John Thornton, Tony Becht, Barrett Green, Charles Fisher and Amos Zereoue. The entire offensive line had multiple years of starting experience and the WR corps was very good with David Saunders, Shawn Foreman, and Khori Ivy.

2004 - Preseason top 10 with talent like Pacman and Chris Henry. Another 8 win season with a bowl loss. Obviously discipline was a problem.

I guess I'll have to see how 2008 finishes out, but considering the circumstances I'd put it just behind those for now.

But.....rain plays to the run. It slows up our fast receivers, and your DL is just a beast. Our O-line is much closer to Duke than USC. This could be a 3-0 game, but I have a feeling it will 28-6 Tech.

well, it only took 3 minutes and change to blow both those predictions up. I'd settle for 28-7 tech?

Lol. Yeah. Nice early drive, and a good stop on GT there, though that probably should have been a TD on 4th down. That receiver was open.

Well, Matthew Stafford can hit a open GT receiver. Doesn't he look like a number one over all draft pick?

Sad thing? I called the missed PAT.

After 40 years of watching, you start to know things.

From an outsider's perspective that hasn't seen GT play all year, seems like this offense could be a monster with a QB that can run and pass a bit.

Question is, are you ever going to get a guy like that to come and play in a system where he throws the ball 75% less than a pro style offense? Do Tech have anyone recruited?

Yeah, that interception looked eerily familiar. Well, except the name on the jersey used to be Ball.

Wow... Cullen Harper just had an amazing pass for a TD. South Carolina defender was draped all over him and just before he goes down, Harper slings a 30 yard pass to a wide open receiver who runs in for a TD.

I was thinking that but ... this is an offense designed in a way that can be perfect for the two-point conversion. Since we had just used one of the better plays for that situation we were left with maybe a lesser alternative for the play call. Still, I have to think we should make that work more often than not.

Tackling in the secondary, it's essential.

Still, you take your chances with Stafford beating you instead of Moreno. If he can do it (and they continue to give him time to throw) then you tip your hat to 'em and deal with it.

Very true. In a couple of years, this team might have the highest two-point conversion rate in the league.

There's one of those plays that really leaves me scratching my head sometimes. Never mind the penetration, that seems almost incidental when it happens. It's just that at times the offense, not just Nesbitt but the whole offense, looks like something out of The Matrix, like it suddenly goes into slow motion.

You are right on that. Moreno can kill ya a lot faster/better than Stafford, but he is also easier to eliminate. Not because of him, but the O-line is not good enough to give him a sliver of room if a defense plays the run right. You can't over-pursue, but make sure you meet Moreno with two defenders, not one.

Makes me go back to comment someone made in a ealrier thread about Moreno not being a "true" NFL running back. IMHO, he is going to be a beast at the next level, whereas Stafford has about a 60% chance of being a complete bust, and about a 90% chance of at least being a under-performer. Moreno is not just a little quick guy. He can power-back and bludgeon you to death, or he can be a quick-back and kill you with speed. He's a good pass blocker, and very unselfish. The kid is special.

The linesman or field judge on that side should've went to the referee and corrected him.

I don't follow Georgia nearly as good as you but I thought I remember hearing how he was banged up a bit and Georgia would have other backs in there. That was probably last year.

I'd say he's a 20 carry back, not a 25-30 carry back. But how many of the latter are there anymore?
As you mentioned, he does seem like a guy who gets dinged & nicked but like GD pointed out he doesn't end up out completely.

You'll find Richt rarely lets a guy carry more than 20 carries a game unless he has a depth problem. He rotates three running backs almost constantly. I think he has had knicks and dings, but he has never missed significant time in any game that I can think of.

And Georgia has now scored as many points in the first half as GT has allowed in a game all year.

If we can't get pressure rushing four, it could get a lot worse when we bring five. One of the few bright spots I can find at the moment is that, for the first time in years, I don't worry that the coaching will make things any worse in the second half.

Looking back at his game logs, he has only been limited in carries in blow-outs, though, now I do remember that he was injured early in the Alabama game. But that was the only game that he missed significant snaps due to injury his entire career. When Brown went down last season, and Lumpkin was also out, he averaged 27+ carries a game.

Exactly. The trend in the NFL seems to be more one guy with 20 carries and the backup with 10. A more split workload to prevent the main guy from getting totally run down.

Thanks. I was pretty much just saying the same thing here. I mean if my 10 year old knows the rule ...

edit to add: I like the call on the last play of the half, and that's the kind of throw that Nesbitt used to make regularly in high school. He's got a freakin' howitzer worth of arm strength.

If Vance Walker doesn't try to ease up on Stafford, thinking he was throwing the dumpoff, that's a safety. Just a very smart play by Stafford to fake it there.
