Iowa's had some great punts, and Michigan is getting almost nothing on offense. Hawkeyes up 11-10 after third quarter.

Jake Browning has some work to do if he wants to be an elite QB. USC made him look ordinary tonight.
David Lombardi ESPN Staff Writer Washington played the 4th-easiest schedule in the Power 5 before this game, according to FPI. Combine a surging USC team with injuries to Joe Mathis and Azeem Victor, and this result isn't so shocking anymore. Last edited by jbergey22 : 11-12-2016 at 09:57 PM. |

Okay, help me out here.
Down by 9 with six minutes left ... don't you go for two? You're either down 3 OR down 1 A field goal by them means you still need a TD A touchdown by them means you're probably still going for two yourself with a chance to tie (cause they're unlikely to go for to to try to make it 9) Am I crazy here?

Im not sure on the math of it all but most coaches go for the extra point there thinking a field goal wins the game. I dont think you are crazy. Math probably says you are right. Being down 1 gives you an underused tactical option. Let the other team score instead of wasting the entire clock and then trying to tie it up on offense. In the college game where defense seems to be lacking it would probably work quite often. Last edited by jbergey22 : 11-12-2016 at 10:07 PM. |

At the moment it's worked out (pending another 37 secs) but ... I'm not seeing the big advantage of being down 2 instead of worst-case down three. Unless you just don't think you could win in a hypothetical overtime.

Uh Oh. Iowa ball needing a field goal to take the lead late in the 4th.
How is this the same Iowa team that got destroyed against Penn St? |

And in College Station, a legend is born.
I still don't like the minimal reward under the circumstances of their season, but Shea Patterson makes good in his college debut. Ole Miss rallies to shock A&M 29-28.

Stribling INT could seal it. Even if it does, heck of a physical, disciplined game by Iowa. Shades of '97 when it took a late Sam Sword pick to overcome the heroics of Tim Dwight. Add Chuck Long to the mix and ... yeah. Iowa would have 2-3 more wins this year if this was a typical performance for them I think. They deserve a lot of credit for this game, and Michigan has ... work to do on offense.

That roughing the snapper penalty was huge. Makes me even saltier about the missed obvious PI in the OSU/PSU game. Looks like Iowa gets one more chance but their passing game is nonexistent.

Ohio State ? ? Things are real crazy now. Id probably take Bama, the Ohio State/Michigan winner, Clemson and Louisville at this point. Last edited by jbergey22 : 11-12-2016 at 10:34 PM. |

I honestly wasn't worried about Iowa coming in given how dysfunctional they've seemed this year. Clearly I was wrong.
Iowa wins 14-13. Hard-fought, deserved old-school win. |

If Penn State wins out and tOSU beats Michigan, then PSU is the Big Ten Champions and, who knows, if the rest of the season is as crazy as today, a playoff spot?

I think Louisville is 3, Clemson is 4, Michigan is 5, Washington is 6, and Wiscy stays 7. But I could also see Clemson and Michigan staying ahead of Louisville.

I hate Michigan.
But I'd rather OSU lose rather than PSU get in the playoff.

I think Louisville should be, but won't be, ahead of Clemson. And I think Penn State winning the Big Ten and going to the playoffs is just what this chaotic season needs.

Clemson loses to a team that beat Penn State. OSU lost to Penn State. Michigan loses to a team that got crushed by Penn State. Clemson also beat Louisville head to head.

Bama +
Michigan/Ohio State winner + Clemson if they win the ACC, or Louisville if Clemson doesn't win it + and I have no clue who gets the 4th spot, probably one of the teams eliminated in the various outcomes above I tell you who gets kinda interesting if they win out though: Colorado

Congrats to USC, they played a helluva game. Losing Joe Mathis a while back was big - Washington has struggled to mount a pass rush since then. That was critical tonight. Losing Azeem Victor on top of that also sucked. Trojan D ate-up the UW OL and made life miserable for Browning. Huskies also missed at least 3 potential big plays as Fuller and Daniels couldn't make plays on deep passes and Pettis had a terrible throw on a trick play that should have gone for 6.
Ah well - UW can still win out and at least go to the Rose Bowl, and with losses to Clemson, Michigan and aTm, they're not necessarily out of it for the CFP. Gotta get up off the mat next week and take care of business vs. WSU. |

So.... if Penn State wins out and wins the Big Ten championship they would have to be in the CFP, right? And Ohio State would be ranked too high to not play in the CFP even without playing in the Big Ten championship game if they win out as well?

I think so, as much as others on here disagree. This was a horrible outcome for OSU tonight. Now if PSU wins out, and wins the BIG, they have an extremely strong argument (and to argue it is really silly, in all seriousness) to get the nod over OSU by winning the BIG AND beating OSU head to head. This could likely be the year though that the committee takes 2 teams from 1 conference. |

Has to be, because the Big 12 isn't getting a team in, and UW is the PAC 12s only hope.

Hopefully. But only because of what Butter just said. Big 12 isn't getting a rep this year and Pac-12 will probably also get slighted. I can see the BIG getting 2 teams now. But OSU still has to beat MSU, not just Michigan. And as we all saw tonight...nothing is certain. |

If OSU wins out they'll be the #2 team in the country and they'll get a spot whether they're in the championship or not.
PSU could be left out depending on how many one loss teams remain.

I think Washington, winner of Michigan/Ohio St., and Clemson still pretty well control their destinies.
It is hard to envision a 2-loss PSU getting in over a 2-loss Michigan, with Michigan owning a 39 point win head to head and a really strong OOC win over Colorado. If the conference title is that valuable, the other two highest ranked P5 champs should probably be in over a 2nd Big Ten team (Ohio St. in this case). |

this is absurd. sorry, but it is. if psu and michigan both have 2 losses we are assuming 2 things a)osu beat michigan and b) psu wins out AND wins the BIG. that would also imply that osu was in, because you cant put michigan in after just losing to osu and no 2 loss non conf champ team is getting in the playoffs. there is NO WAY michigan gets in over psu in that scenario. none. zilch. stop. Even though I don't think it'll happen, I'm just teary eyed that we are being talked about as a sleeper. CU has some major special teams problems with the kicker and they layed a big egg on national TV against UCLA. They won and deserved to win, but it was ugly. Still. . . CU wins out that means they beat 3 top 25 teams in a row. A big non conference road game at Michigan. They would certainly put themselves in the discussion. |

Colorado is a great story, and the Buffs being good again is a big plus for the conference. I don't know if I've mentioned it here, but I think schools like LSU should take a long, hard look at MacIntyre. Yeah, his overall record isn't sexy, but the rebuild jobs he's done at San Jose State and now Colorado are very, very impressive.

So apparently Wilton Speight broke his collarbone against Iowa, and is done for the year. Which, while I would expect O'Korn to be better than many backups, would seem to make the Penn State vs. Wisconsin Big Ten Championship matchup that much more likely.
