Yeah admitting publicly that the top recruit in the country couldn't develop in your program (whether it's his fault or yours) would be killer for those future battles.

It will be used against them regardless.

The Boise State defense looks terrible so far. Way too much over-pursuit and they don't look focused at all. I would not be surprised to see an upset.

Does Boise routinely go for the 2-point conversion after TDs, regardless of the situation?

Geez... Boise is getting a lot of head on Tulsa's QB. Not sure if it is great defense or not -- it seems like Tulsa's plays are taking a really long time to develop.

I think the receiver was at least a little to blame on that one. He was in a wide open area, his QB was rolling left and the receiver runs away from him instead of sitting down in space.

The College Football Belt

Actually a pretty cool concept to take and run with like this guy did. Kind of gives a new perspective on the history of college football. Fun to read through how your team has done and such.

oh yeah and FRAMES ALERT
Heh, that's pretty cool. And a pleasant surprise to see Washington tied for first with 9 Belts - just goes to show how good the program was under Don James and how well they played against top competition.

Dola -

Key game for Washington this weekend if they want to go bowling this year. A win on the road against ASU would put them at 4-3 (3-1 in conference) and needing just 2 more for a bowl invite. Given that beating WSU at home seems highly likely, they would probably have a decent shot at finding a 6th win among road games with UCLA & Oregon State and home games with Oregon & Cal.

Should be strength on strength with ASU's salty defense vs. Jake Locker & the Husky offense, and weakness on weakness with ASU's struggling offense vs. UW's struggling (but opportunistic) defense.

Sounds like crowd sizes have been way down in Tempe this year, which should help.

Quick picks: (Great slate of games this weekend)

Iowa @ Wisconsin (-2.5) 12:00 ESPN
Oklahoma @ Texas (-3) 12:00 ABC
Arkansas @ Florida (-25) 3:30 CBS (25 points???)
USC @ Notre Dame (+10) 3:30 NBC (Please prove me wrong)
Virginia Tech @ Georgia Tech (+3) 6:00 ESPN2
Kentucky @ Auburn (-13.5) 7:30 ESPN360
South Carolina @ Alabama (-17) 7:45 ESPN (Alabama still throws wayyy too many fades in the red zone, especially since McElroy doesn't toss jump balls like Clausen does when his receiver is so dominant, but tries to throw it on the run into the corner.)
Missouri @ Oklahoma St. (-7) 9:15 ESPN2

Well one bad throw by Daniels and a host of mental errors by Jerome Murphy are handing this game to Cincy so far. For a young QB Daniels is playing well, but Murphy may be playing himself out of a role on the field...

Miami only giving up 14.5 to UCF seems like a pretty good bet.

I wonder how many programs the same thing couldn't be said about?

2nd grade reading level exceeds what I've seen from some scholarship freshmen.

So is the OU/TEX game like a Yankees/Red Sox game?

This game has been on forever already and the first quarter is STILL being played. Are they going for an hour average per quarter?

Georgia leads Vandy 7-0 late in Q1, Cox to Green 65 yd TD pass.

To this point, Cox is 1/5 passing while Vandy has gotten a stellar 1/7 for 3 yards from Larry Smith. Both teams are averaging <3 ypc on the ground.

OU/Texas has either been an abomination in terms of blocking, or it's showcasing some of the best defense I've ever seen.

There's multiple questions there. Was the OU returner standing on the line when he fumbled, did the UT guy step out of bounds, or did he fumble out of the endzone? What a bizarre play.

Bradford came back because he wanted to. He loves OU and wanted another shot at the national title. It's a shame what has happened to him this season, but don't put the blame on Stoops. Stoops said long ago (and he has maintained this position throughout) that he will not try to convince a guy to come back when he's projected to be a top 10-top 15 pick. Roy Williams and Adrian Peterson have both said Stoops never tried to convince them to stay, I believe.

If you want to blame anyone for Bradford coming back (other than Sam himself), blame Gresham, Gerald McCoy and Trent Williams. I think the 4 of them (probably McCoy the most of all) kind of pushed each other to give it another shot.

As for the game itself, I'm very impressed with what Venables is doing defensively. His scheme is really throwing Colt McCoy off, and it's a huge step forward from the crap he did last year. Unfortunately, the offense is unable to make it count (field goals instead of touchdowns) and keeps losing the football. That makes for a very dangerous situation in a game that OU looks to be dominating so far.
