This is your answer, kids. It won't let you do a 4 man roster. Went from a game out of 1st to 5th. Yuk. Can't go the distance. Thanks for runnin alan.

We took some big age hits this season. Kishitia, Hood, Otero, and worst of all Jorge Franco. Might be time to rebuild instead of reload. Congrats to the playoff teams and good luck tommorow

congrats to hartford, colorado, baltimore, and apex!

I think of the four of them i think colorado is the most due correct? That is has gone the most years without winning/an appearance.
I don't know about total titles tho. If Apex went back to back I wouldn't be unhappy.

Naw, i typically stick to a 5 man rotation with the option of starting the highest rested starter. I've experimented with 4 man rotation's and even a 3 man rotation for the playoffs, and unless i have a reason to do it, (a serious lack of starting pitching depth) I stay away.

yeah i tried that really cause I didn't think I was a contender this year and REALLY didn't have a good 5th pitcher.

I have found that using a 4 man rotation gets a starter 8 more starts in a season, but only about 15-20 more IPs.
I don't have any hard and fast rules on when I use 4 or when I use 5...which I would estimate I do 50-50. I tend to fly by the seat of my pants and use hunches and chrystal balls, but generally my bullpen dictates more then my SP's whether I go 4 or 5.

But let's look at it from a statistical point of view....
A team averages 1450IP per season.
A small sample (3yrs) of when I used 4 man rotation has 205IP averaged for my starters, which means my starters pitched 820 innings, and my bullpen pitched 630 innings.
For a 3 year sample of using a 5man rotation my starters averaged 190IP in those years. That means my starters pitched 950 innings and my bullpen 500 innings.

So by using a 4 man rotation, it means my bullpen pitches on average 130 innings more then when using a 5 man rotation. So the big question to ask is not necessarily if you have 5 good enough starters, but whether your bullpen is deep enough and talented enough to pitch those extra innings!!

I won't ever use a 4 man rotation but I must say that anything backed up with numbers like that Eric. Nice to see you studied the numbers here.

Yeah I knew it was a longshot but as I didn't think I had a strong group of hitters this year, I think I was just padding stats of my good pitchers. I'll check if that worked. Awesome analysis eric.

And I really didn't have a good 5th pitcher for SP. The one I had just had HORRIBLE numbers and screwed my team up last year as lot. So I was just rolling the dice that it might work. And again, it did until the last month and a half. (now to be renamed Failtober. )
