Ward seemed to hold it for a little while, but bobbled it after he was out of bounds. They said he had to control it through the end of the play, which makes sense. I could see them giving it to him for holding/controlling until he was out of bounds, but it seems as if the rule requires more.

Really no explanation for the first down. Makes no sense.

Giants stop the Saints on a 4th and 1 at the 1 yardline. In the replay it looked to me like the ball crossed the plane though and should have been a TD, but was pretty close.

Damn, I think with lasers that ball broke the plane, but any replay on it will be inconclusive with all those players in the way.

Was it a bad angle or something for the camera? That's all I can think of.

Unfortunately, I have not seen an angle that clearly shows it crossed

Yeah, every single replay has it close, but after the last series of replays I might have been wrong there. They might have held him there. Big play for the Giants to keep that score out.

Just watching halftime highlights - what happened on that punt return? It looks like the Panthers player blindsided the Bucs returner on a fair catch before the ball got there; WTF?

I don't see him getting across, but I do see a momentary facemask right before he runs into folks.

And Todd Collins is in at QB for the Redskins, probably for no reason other than Jim Zorn just throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks.

Who knows...

They did the same thing in the VPI-GT game yesterday, only the ref rolled the ball forward until it touched the end of the chain. Didn't hear an explanation for that one, either.

Weak goal line running by Thomas. If he had gone low he'd have been in easily. Instead he let himself get stood up and pushed backwards. I think he probably was in but there was no camera angle that showed it.

Oh well, I guess they get to do it again...

That's exactly what happened (well, I don't think there was a fair catch call, but that wouldn't matter). Dude just went right after the punt returner for no reason.

That was absolutely horrible. I hope he is suspended for a long-time because it was completely unecessary. He left the ground and nailed him just under the chin.

My only thought on the Steelers call was the chain was on an angle and we then got it straight up and down it was right at the stick. I saw a very simliar call last night in one of the games, I think South Carolina-Alabama or GT-VT and they rolled the ball and then called 1st down.

Hmm.. I don't think the ball was out until he hit the ground there. I think it is Saints ball on the 7 yard line. I think that was a good call on the field.

Shanle was lucky he didn't fumble before he hit the ground, that ball was a bit loose beforehand. Aikman is being obnoxious for the Giants today, having a loose handle on the ball isn't the same as the ball actually coming out.

The Saints might hit 100 by themselves.

Eli Manning likes to complete passes to Darren Sharper. Sharper might hit 30 points by himself if the Giants have to throw nonstop.

But then there's the Brandon Jacobs factor, because he will clearly score 100 points on his own.

Wow. Culpepper goes down and Stanton comes in. The first play he throws a pass that almost gets Bryant Johnson killed.

Here's the part of that I don't understand, while we're talking about horrible officiating. In the scrum that follows, ref hats and flags are flying all over the place, at least 3 more thrown during the scrum. Yet not a word when the ref explains the play, just the 15 yards and ejected player for the initial hit. What happened from the scrum?

And yeah, Wesley (the guy that leveled the returner) will be much lighter in the paycheck and lucky if he's not suspended for a few games. He basically incited the riot after that by having his "what? me? what'd I do?" reaction.

Giants defense, meet playaction. Playaction, Giants defense.

Seriously I can't recall such a highly rated unit having such a fall from grace in a long time. I know the DB's aren't great but the pass rush hasn't touched Brees all game, and this is a Saints offensive line without their best player.

I don't think it has to make it to the yard stick. I think it just has to make it to the end of the chain. I saw something like this a long time ago and that was the explanation that I heard then.

Giants have not been the best team in the NFL at all this year.

They've got the worst coverage linebackers I've seen. That alone accounts for the majority of the points scored by opponents. You can complete 12-yard passes over the middle all day.

Is there a defensive line that jumps offside more than the Vikings? They have done it numerous times today and the only other game I've watched them against the Niners they did the same thing.

delhomme with his 9th and 10th INT's on the season today, the last one returned for a touchdown to allow tampa to tie the game.

Delhomme is 8/16 for 61 yards, 1 TD/2 INT on the day... outstanding.

They constantly are trying to jump snap counts. That D is so good though they can afford the penalties.

Last week the Cowboys did it four times in one drive.

EDIT: This was last week obviously.
