This is taking pettiness to a whole new level - want his job or not, it doesn't excuse the behavior.

More than likely, you're behind markprior22 in that queue from the looks of things.

This is somewhat like making a mountain out of a molehill. His edit button is gone. It's not like he's prevented from posting. It's not like he's censored in any way.

What would be petty is if Skydog gave the power of editing jbmagic's posts to someone else...now, that would be petty.

No you've got it a bit wrong. What he's done to this point is petty. If he did what you suggest... that would just be funny

I had a tree fall in my yard a couple days ago. Big tree, it was dead so it was going to happen at some point I guess. I think I know who made it happen though.

It's easy to pick on jb.

I wonder what kind of bitchfest there'd be if it were one of the other regulars here.

Yup. I don't always agree with jb's policy of posting every question that comes to mind, but this is SD being an asshat, and him not being called on it.

Well at first I didn't want to respond to this thread, because jbmagic's questions don't really bother me, but I do understand why his edit button is gone. There are even two recent incidents where I was wondering if jb really like negative attention.

Example #1:
Over a week ago, I started a thread asking people about their current RSS feeds. jbmagic seemed to be interested and I answered him on what I know about it. The next day jbmagic writes a thread asking about the best RSS readers. This didn't bother me because there are so many out there and it seemed that he was curious to find out which one to use. Since no one wrote in the thread, I chimed in and gave him a number of the one that I knew about. Well at the end of the thread he then asks:

Huh? I had wrote a long post about my feeds the day prior and he even posted in that thread. In fact, he knew nothing about RSS feeds until I told him in that thread. So I was left scratching my head.

Example #2:
The following day, jbmagic writes another thread asking about everyone's favorite firefox extensions. The questioning never bothers me, but what occurs in the thread does. I give him a list of my favorite and for some reason jbmagic give me advice on something he knew nothing about. These are the 3 posts that actually occur in this order in the thread:

get AdBlock Filerset.G Updater

highly recommend filter update for adblocks.

and if you love rss feeds get Sash Extension for firefox. a great rss reader

What? Why are you giving me advice on something you just learned about in the post before. In fact, he just answered his question about adblock and then recommends it to me in the very next post.

That is why I think his edit button was taken away. If someone were to call him on that, he would get upset and delete all traces of evidence. And I find it amazing that jbmagic coud start a thead asking about "Which FOFC member is going to buy Maximum football?" knowing darn well that he is trying to point his attention to those people on the board that defend the game and yet no one can ever point at jbmagic for anything.

I don't hate the guy. To me, everyone has their unique quirk. HellAtlantic is known for his crude comments, SkyDog is known as the dictator, FrogMan is known as the sensitive father, flereimsaho is known for his stick figures, Pumpy is known for his pics and jbmagic is known for his "100 questions a day quota", etc.

Sure, his edit button disappering may not be a good thing. However he tries to rile things up more times than people will admit and if confronted will try everything in his power to make the incident go away. And that power was a simple edit button.

I simply wasn't up to searching back through threads to look up situation after situation to explain all of that, and thus went with the simpler, shorter answer, but you hit the nail squarely on the head. Ant's examples could be repeated time and time again with other situations if someone took the time to look them up. His post-crap-then-delete-or-edit-it thing has happened over and over and over and over again. Many of you haven't seen the stuff he's deleted, because he does it quickly.

Hey I used to think the same way until I realized that he deletes posts/threads when he gets negative feedback. Never used to notice it before until I became more of a regular poster.

Obviously, people have missed that part about Ben taking away JB's ability to access and send PM's or the ability to access his control panel. Or how about the fact that he put him on invisiban just a couple of weeks ago because he "annoyed" Ben.

Lets cut through the bullshit here. SkyDog doesn't like JB's personalities and behaviors, so he has decided to try run him off, but doesn't want to come across like an asshat (too late!).

Also, there are several who don't want to say anything because Ben has had a quick trigger finger in the past in regards to discontent. I can understand that. It's a great online community. I've been here nearly six years myself, but this nonsense needs to stop.

It's pretty obvious (to me at least) that JB is only trying to fit in and learn the culture on here. He doesn't have a great grasp of the English language and I think that bothers a lot of people. He asks questions. He repeats what he reads or hears. It sounds childish, but that's what people who is learning a whole new culture does. He just wants to fit. Instead of making fun of him or doing shit like this, take some time to teach him that maybe he needs to change his approach.

There should be a global "who cares" button. I don't really care either way, but so what if he can't edit or PM? He wants to add something, he can dola. Anybody want to get in touch, ping (that's what most do around here anyway). I just don't see the grave injustice. I found myself getting irritated with his constant childish posts too. Everyone's bugging out on the fact that SD is a youth minister (or whatever) and how this behavior detracts from his image/persona whatever. I don't know what limiting the rather annoying posting abilities of somebody has to do with guiding today's youth.

Ah. I see what happened with regard to PM's. There's a setting for number of PM's that can be stored. It was set to zero for that user group, which effectively disabled PM's.

I'm still checking, but I have no idea why he wouldn't be able to access his control panel at this point.

ACtually, I'm fairly sure that someone is mistaken about the CP aspect. The "Can Edit Own Profile" button was set to "YES" for the "No Editing/Deleting" group.

What's funny is that I had uploading attachments enabled for that user group--a big no-no per Gamespy. Glad I examined it and disabled that.

Do you really think it takes 30 years to learn a whole new culture?

Has he been here in the U.S. for 30 years? My general impression (language, behavior) is that he has only been here for 5-10 years.

He says he was raised here...and he claims to be 37 or 38, I think.

Just to add on. It's not really unusual for some immigrants to struggle with different cultures even after living in that culture for several years.

Yeah as I seem to recall, he was raised in the United States for a majority of his life and I think he lives in California. I think. But yeah, he does give the impression of someone who just moved here.

For some bizarre reason, jbmagic seems to be in some "protected" class around here. Things that others would get nailed for here, he gets a free pass, and defended when anyone calls him out. I've never understood it.

Obviously you see something nearly no one else does. Pretty simple explanation.

it's one thing for him to get called out by others in the community. it's another for a mod to carry on an immature vendetta against him, and pull lame stunts like you've been engaging in.

we expect that kind of juvenile crap from morons like HA. we don't expect it from you. or, rather, we shouldn't expect it from you.

Except, as we have seen in this thread, other people do see something so it's not like it's as cut and dry as you're trying to make it sound.

Lame stunts? Vendetta? If there was any of that, I'd have simply banned him a long time ago. Quite frankly, there's mounting evidence of a very legitimate reason to ban him (a reason that even Shorty might not argue against) but I'm trying to give him (and another person) the benefit of the doubt until I have the facts with 100% certainty, because I really don't want to believe what appears to be the case.

Being naive and a bit of a wuss in reguards to negativity is worth being dicked with by a mod? Less so this edit thing, now that the truth is out, more so the ghost banning and constant backhanded slaps.

right then...

Skydog has hinted more than a couple times that he thinks he's a dupe. Either pull the trigger or let him be.

It shouldn't be for much longer. I've procrastinated on getting to the bottom of the situation, so a big reason for me posting that was to force myself to either have to retract, or spill the beans.

What evidence?

what have i done that so bad, for you to think of banning me.

if you trying to make an excuse to ban me, so you look like you got a reason to do so, is very sad.

i am sorry that i ask a lot of questions. There is others here that do worse than me here, but you always give them a free pass. the other thing i can think of was a mistake to post old news the other day.

as soon i do something, you like to give me a hard time.

Thank you for fixing the pm box, but taking away the edit button was kinda harsh.

now your thinking of banning me, and i swear to god i never done something here that was so bad to get ban.

i am a good person.

there others that post way more than me in the last few months, but you never give them a hard time and no ones says anything to them about it. others make a new post, when there was another thread post already made. but you dont give them a hard time.

if i have ask too many questions, post old news, and repeat then i am truly sorry and it wont happen again.

I just don't understand why not having an edit button is a big deal.
