All the bowls should be done by the end of Jan 1 and then the playoffs should take eight or nine days(depending on where Sunday falls) to complete the two rounds. Putting the semis in the middle of the bowls diminishes them and there's no need for two weeks between rounds.

Sooo… you don't understand why the pageantry would be reduced if the game wasn't after the Rose Parade? Because they are never moving that thing from New Year's Day. Back when the BCS changed the Rose Bowl date, to move it from the parade, people got really mad which is why they probably won't decouple that again.

Except that ESPN bent over backwards to make sure they had the Rose. They offered more than double the previous amount just to lock them up. Rose would have been nuts to say no. If that's what ESPN felt the value was and was willing to make that offer, who are we to tell them they can't? Quote:
Haven't had 6 since 2014. 5 has been the most common number over the past decade, dropped to 4 this year because the Fiesta was a semi-final BUT the Fiesta has only played on 1/1 eight times in the past 20 years anyway. Historical significance of college football New Year's Day bowls Basically, there's nobody left to move to Jan 1 (or Jan 2 if a Sunday 1/1). Nearly 1/3rd of the bowls are now owned by ESPN so those won't be moved into competition obviously, and most of the rest are loathe to compete with the bigger traditional names.

I agree. And the 13 days between the semis and NC game is way to long. I like your idea.

I know they want to avoid the NFL playoffs, but I don't see why the semis can't be on the 6th and 7th and then the NCG on the 13th?

I personally like the extra week. It always seemed strange to get 4 weeks to prepare for the semifinal game and 1 week for the championship game. I wish we could get it off Christmas week though. I'm sure the kids dont mind but I wish ever kid had the option to be with their family on Christmas day. |

I feel like the officiating in the bowl games has been subpar this year. Is it just a roll over from poor officiating during the season? Dont the best refs get the games? If so, these are the best?

It's been pretty shite across bowl season. Some look like they wish they had sat out like some players do. Very much feels like replay has been treated like a crutch, moreso than I'm used to seeing.

Heartbreaking to lose after having a 13 point lead with 5ish minutes left in the fourth. Not sure why we weren’t ready for the onside kick. Tough way to end our best season since I was in college. Good game, Tennessee. Wish we could have pulled this one out.

Also with that win the SEC goes 7-2 and the BIG 10 4-5 in the Bowl games for those that keep track.

With a backup QB and without your leading rusher it was a pretty good effort.

Yeah, I'm proud of the way we hung in there. It could have easily started 21-0 instead of 6-0, but our defense kept us in it until our offense finally started to find it's footing in the second half. And certainly, Michael Penix is a more dynamic QB than Peyton Ramsey, but Ramsey has started about 2.5 seasons worth of games now, so he is a solid backup. Our run game definitely missed Stevie Scott. It was asking a lot of our freshman RB to try to fill in for him. Overall, Ramsey saved our season after Penix went down. I hope Ramsey sticks around for his senior year, as there are worries about Penix's durability. You guys totally took our top WR (Whop Philyor) out of the game. Usually he is a game-changer, but he barely had anything thrown his way last night. |

Moorhead had no control over his players. His players tried to fight Iowa players while visiting a childrens hospital before last years outback bowl. Classless.
This season his QB didnt play for getting into a fight with a LBer. Seems like he was in over his head.

Jake Fromm declares for the draft. Let the speculation about graduate transfers heading to Athens begin in earnest.
(My eye lands on K.J. Costello as a legit possibility, who knows whether I'm right or not though)

Phil Jurkovec has entered the transfer portal... wonder where he ends up.
Half the fan base believed the staff did not trust him enough to execute the full playbook when given opportunities, and the other half believed he should be the starter purely based on his recruiting ranking. Kinda surprised he didn't stick out this year, graduate, and then transfer vs sitting out a year, but if you haven't passed Ian Book by this point, you probably aren't going to. Edit: As someone has posted elsewhere, ND has a procedure for this. Outgoing ND QBs transfer to a Florida school and then get benched. (Wimbush -> UCF, Golson -> FSU, Zaire -> Florida) Last edited by bob : 01-08-2020 at 02:20 PM. |

Yet another blue collar fan base gets a new coach. Just once I want a football coach to take over a college or pro program and said that he really appreciates the white-collar, educated professional nature of the city he's moving to. And that he's going to build a smart, sophisticated team to reflect the smart and sophisticated fan base. |

Trey Lance proved he's the real deal today. I still don't know how ran ran for a 44yd TD on a 3rd and 22. He won the Jerry Rice (FCS Best Freshman) and became the FIRST FRESHMAN EVER to win the Walter Payton Award (FCS Best Player), plus he was MVP in the National Championship game. What an absolute weapon. He is the reason for the 16-0 season!
I was really happy they didn't overturn that 4th down play for JMU. It was so close, it could have gone either way. I was glad they at least got the chance to keep playing instead of having the refs end the game on a stupid review. I thought JMU should have run with a time out and 8 seconds to play. They had had success all game, and instead their QB throws the pick in the endzone to seal it. Would any of you believe that the Bison were 2 point underdogs going into this game? I would have take the points and the even money they were handing out!

My wife pointed it out and we started counting and got to 11 mentions AFTER she had heard it enough to say .."WTF" He played an amazing game. Fist I had had a chance to watch him. Impressed. Coach Houston at JMU had recruited my son. Well more accurately Coaches Shankweiler and Sims recruited him. New staff wasnt as interested so we had some extra juice pulling for the Bison...lol |

I covered his two seasons at Griffin, arrived the same year he did. He had the tough task of following their local legend HC (Lloyd Bohannon, who would sit in the stands on the visitors side and hold court during games). I liked Shank. His replacement a couple years later, umm, not so much (Daryl Jones would last two years and then become the on-campus recruiting coordinator at UGA)

This was shared and is completely valid for people thinking NDSU has to move up. Plus it doesn't even deal with recruiting problems.
Some perspective for everyone standing outside the campus of NDSU holding a pitchfork and a torch calling for the Bison to move up to FBS: 1. NDSU is a public school, meaning that its primary funding source is the State of North Dakota. 2. The State of North Dakota is funded exclusively by tax money. 3. The State of North Dakota cannot give money to NDSU that it doesn’t first take from the public. 4. Moving up to FBS will cost somewhere between $50-$100 million when it’s all said and done between expanding the Fargodome to meet NCAA FBS requirements and all related infrastructure improvements, increased number of academic scholarships for the athletes, coaching staff compensation, athletic department budget, etc. 5. The overwhelming majority of the costs of moving up to FBS will likely be footed by the State of ND. 6. To come up with the money needed to cover the bill, the state will have to increase its tax revenue. 7. Who in their right mind wants to see their taxes go up just to see some sportscasters/talking heads shut up over the issue of how a college football team funded by said taxpayers is “too good for the division they’re in and need to move up” or something to that extent? 8. NDSU doesn’t need to move up, everyone else in the FCS just needs to get better and show the NCAA that D1 football doesn’t need to have 2 tiers. The moral? Everything has a catch, and it’s often found in the 2nd half of the story that no one ever talks about, which is why it’s usually located there.

I feel like LSU are the public darlings rights now. Clemson with their big game experience and excellent coaching +6 points seems right to me. If we take away the semi-final games LSU is no more than a 2 point favorite.
Also, interesting enough is the total has shot down from 69.5 down to 66.5. I think the Isaiah Simmons factor is underrated right now. I also think the fact that while Clemson didnt always put up video game numbers on a weekly basis they have as strong of an offense as LSU. Both teams are strong at QB/WR, and offensive line but Id clearly take Etienne over Edwards-Helaire. In any case this should be one spectacular game. |

This holds true regardless of any other points. But we live in a participation trophy world, so the whining is almost inevitable. I-AA has had dynastic teams since it's inception. Granted, NDSU has taken that to the next level but it's not really new. 79-82 -- Eastern Kentucky in 4 straight title games, 2 wins 85-90 -- Georgia Southern in 5 of 6 title games, 4 wins 91-94 -- Youngstown State in 4 straight title games, 3 wins and 6 of 9, with 4 titles 05-07 -- Appy State, 3 straight titles And none of this comes remotely close to what Mount Union has done in DIII (as previously discussed here I'm sure). And that's with Wisconsin-Whitewater having a dynastic run of their own second only to MU. If programs are playing by the same rules you are then get better, or get your ass kicked.
