Apparently Johnny Manziel went missing sometime over the weekend.

Johnny Manziel went missing in action this weekend when he was supposed to host a small party in the Hamptons for close friends and family.

The fallen football star was supposed to take a Blade helicopter out east on Saturday, but didn’t show for his flight.

We’re told they waited 15 minutes for him, but left after he failed to answer his phone.

On Friday night, Manziel got into a confrontation outside the Trump Soho after he and his pals previously crashed a rented Mercedes in LA, and the owner of the fleet of cars tracked him down and came looking for him.

Reports make this offer sound pretty insulting -- they wanted to be able to fully cut bait after 2yrs and about $38m. Not that this is chicken feed, but he's certainly earned the leverage to demand and receive a big fat six year deal with something more like... I don't know...$60-70m effectively guaranteed.

Doesn't the NFL still have that asinine rule that "fully guaranteed" money needs to go into escrow(or somesuch). I kind of get why they're holding the line at 38 million. Throwing a chunk of cash in the 20m range into some special fund has got to be a pain in the cash flow ass regardless of how much other revenue you have coming in.

Both Carey and former ref Gerry Austin, who works for ESPN, have struggled to explain rulings quickly, concisely and correctly.

Carey was well regarded as a referee, but it seems unlikely that the NFL will hire him back. It’s unclear whether he has any future in football at all, or whether he’ll now just enjoy retirement.

I couldn't understand Carey's ineptitude to get the call right while in the booth. I mean, I don't recall him being that bad as a referee at all. Actually I have quite a positive recollection of him on the whole.

But yeah, he was awful in the booth.

The NFL uses a relic rule when owners actually probably had cash funding problems to keep from paying the ultra-elite players large amounts of future guaranteed salaries.

Not only have NFL owners historically opposed guaranteed contracts, they've been a nonstarter in labor negotiations. In fact, the league has a rule in place that essentially discourages owners from handing out large amounts of guaranteed money.

"The league has insisted on retaining the fully funded rule under the CBA," said DeMaurice Smith, executive director of the NFL Players Association, "and many of the teams cite that rule in their unwillingness to put that full amount into escrow."

The rule requires teams to deposit future fully guaranteed payments into escrow. Although more than half of the NFL's teams are owned by billionaires, who would be unlikely to suffer cash flow problems, the owners have used this rule as an excuse for limiting guarantees during negotiations.

"Eventually someone is going to break, and the owners are clearly in a power position. ... It's like the JV team going against the varsity team."

NFLPA president Eric Winston, a Cincinnati Bengals offensive tackle, doesn't buy it.

"Now, these owners can afford to put that money in an escrow account, so I think a lot of it is us leveraging that and saying, 'I know what I'm worth,'" Winston said. "Either that, or the signing bonuses have to get a lot larger to encompass more of the total money being paid out."

The union has unsuccessfully tried to get rid of the collectively bargained funding rule, which was put in place long before most of the league's teams were owned by billionaires. But convincing a room full of Forbes-wealthy people to do something they've never done before and are against ever doing has been almost impossible.
