i wish i had bought another copy of FM when it was cheap a couple weeks back - my brother (who i've been trying to get into the game for years) is finally starting to show an interest and i'd love to be able to get it for him.

Don't buy HOI3 unless you are prepared to get the expansion. And the expansion is broken until the first big patch. Anytime a country has a HQ on loan and gets defeated the game crashes. This almost always happens with Vichy France in 1940/41.

Yikes...sounds like a game-breaker. Does paradox have an ETA on the patch? (I used to follow the HOI games quite closely, but kind of fell away from it).

No ETA that I've heard. There's a few workarounds on the forums, but I'd rather wait for the patch.

And yes, at least for me it's been a game breaker.

Get out your wallets.

Steam has hundreds of titles on sale from June 24 to July 4.

edit: And there appear to be pretty killer daily sales ala Christmas season. Today you can get the complete Overlord pack for 4.50 or Bioshock2 for 14.99 and others.

Stupid question. So, I've got Orange Box and I've got Steam- can I just load up Orange Box in Steam so that it counts as me having it and I can load it on whatever machine I'm using at the time?

Bought Deus Ex and the sequel for $4.95 the other day, but too busy playing Mass Effect 1 to give it much of a shot. How did I miss all the awesome games back when they were released?

Good question - I'm not sure. You might want to Google that or find a thread on the steam boards discussing it...

not that I can see, individually, most games are at 25% off, it's the big 2K package that is at 75% off, 89.99 instead of 359.76...

main page has the daily deals:Welcome to Steam

with a countdown when it'll reset, just like that crazy holiday sale. Oh crap, I still have a bunch of games I've yet to play from last Christmas and I already have spotted some that I will want if they ever come on daily sale, sigh...

If you have your CD key then you should be able to activate it on steam. Go to your library and click the "Add a Game" link at the bottom and see what happens.

Picked up the Overlord collection. Haven't played either game before. Can't pass that up for under $5.

I haven't played it, but I nearly bought it a few months ago when it was on sale for about 4x what it is now.

Uh....

Mass Effect 2 for $19.95 at Direct2Drive (Deluxe Edition of this for $29.95)

The original Mass Effect is up there for one of my favorite RPGs in quite some time.

That's a good deal. I really enjoyed both of these games and think that Mass Effect 2 really improved on the original in every way from a game play perspective. They addressed every issue I had with the game and did so wonderfully. The games are a ton of fun.

Did HOI3 ever get patched to a playable state? I like the sound of the base game + the expansion for $35. Some of the Semper Fi features are very welcome.

I can highly recommend King Arthur - one of the better PC games I've played in a while. It's very hard and unforgiving but IMO better than any of the total war series.

Just to reiterate it's HARD. I've started 3 games at the default difficulty level and ground to a halt at various stages along the way .At some point I'll go back and try and beat it once and for all. But very few games have kept me up until 3am on a semi-regular basis and this was one of them.

bought Osmos on the daily deal of yesterday for $2.49 and finalised the deal on a bunch of games I had in my cart, mostly old ones:
Patricians and Merchants pack (Patricians III, Darkstar One, Great Art Race) for $5.05
Port Royale 2 for $1.50
Flatout 2 for $3.39
Grand Ages: Rome for $6.79 (yeah, really splurged on that one )

All in all, this will satisfy my city building urge at a grand cost of $19.22 for 7 games, with some city destroying via crazy racing thrown in for good measure...

Played Osmos for maybe 45 minutes last night and was totally absorbed by it. What a moody game...

Don't forget that the daily deal on Steam flips on at 1pm eastern/10am pacific. Never know if it won't show up there at 75% off or something like that... Might be worth waiting before putting in your order with GG.

And speaking of daily deals, well, they have finally got to me, and with really cheap ones at that.

I bought that Shatter indie Arkanoid clone for $2.50, Flatout Ultimate Carnage for $2 and The Guild II: Pirates of the European Seas for $3.75.

Was kinda bummed that I had bought Flatout 2 the day before but after fooling around with it and having such fun with it, I thought the upgrade to Ultimate Carnage was probably well worth the 2 bucks it was selling for. I had tried out Flatout 2 before but playing it last night, I thought it was quite a bit of fun. Like the destruction that happens in your car and the one time my character flew out the window, it made my evening as far as humor goes.

The Guild II doesn't seem to be too well known but it has intrigued me for a little while. From what I've read, I'd define it as a sort of The Sims set in medieval times, where you try to build up your dynasty, find a wife, have kids, work, sell stuff you craft, level up and such. Ratings have not been very high, but at that price, if I get maybe 10 hours of fun, it'll be worth it.

This Pirates one is a standalone expansion to the original The Guild II game and from everything I've read, only adds up to the original game while taking away very little. For example, some new professions you can take on while only a few products are not available anymore. So if you are interested in that sort of game, the package that is advertised as part of the daily sale is not necessary. You can simply buy the Pirates expansion and play that one.

i was hoping for a better steam discount on dragon age origins. 40% off today ($24). but i'm patient and willing to wait another year for it to get under $10. life is a lot less expensive if you live 2 years in the past.
