Not going to say anything about the choice, but the play call was terrible. On third down the 49ers played the QB sneak and came flying in over the top. After seeing that on 3rd down, no way I make that play call.

Carolina looking very strong so far. Niner offense needs to figure something out, and quick.

So far Cam >>> Kaep. Colin needs to narrow that margin.

Never knew, but that seems pretty damn cheap

Where it the above said in the rulebook? Where does it say it is legal?

Nothing under player conduct about tripping. All I found so far is:

Rule 3, Section 41, Page 21 of the 2013 NFL Rule Book:

Section 41 Tripping
TRIPPING
Tripping is the use of the leg or foot in obstructing any opponent (including a runner) (12-1-4c and 12-1-8).

Not the familar with the rulebook. The numbers point to other sections. I have more:

Page 72: (Rule 12, Section 1, Article 8)

Article 8: Tripping by Defensive Player.
A defensive player is prohibited from tripping an opponent, including the runner.
Penalty: For tripping by the defense: Loss of 10 yards and an automatic first down.

Surprised that was a personal foul on Smith for taking him down.

With the Niners continually stacking the middle you'd think the Panthers would try some play action roll out?

Well, at least they are stopping them at some point because the rest of the field has been all Carolina.

Yeah... between Cam and Tolbert Carolina is typically unstoppable in that spot so there's not a need for anything different, but the 49ers have been really impressive at the goal line.

Game is definitely being called in favor of the Niners by the officials. Same exact head butt didn't draw a flag.

Yes, it is. If it were to end up being Niners/Seahawks against each other, I'll be sick of the theatrics by the end of the opening kickoff.

Boldin should have been nailed with 15. The ref saw the damned thing happen right in front of him. Horrible non call.

They finally called the unsportsmanlike on the controversial TD. That's a TD IMHO.

I love how Aikman is bitching about all the trash talking on both sides. But when it's Seattle in the game. Nothing.

I do agree it is getting very old in this one.

Didn't Aikman play on some of the all-time trash talking teams?

The whining about the trash talking by Aikman (hey dude, who was your star WR?) and Joe Buck, the voice of middle-aged men everywhere, is hilarious. Who cares?

Gotta wonder if the Niners would've gotten a TD if Boldin had been called for the head butt?

Niners clearly got lucky on the non-call for the head butt. Otherwise the officiating seems ok. Keuchly got away with some slight PI at one point, but it wasn't egregious.

I do. I'm a middle aged white guy, but I care. Guys getting up and in each others faces after every play gets old and gets old fast for me. I love emotion. You jump in the air and cheer and wave first down? Yeah, I'm ok with that. Head butt someone? No, not so much. Get a PI call and run toward the player flagged to talk trash? that should be 15 yards.
