I never really thought I was. That said, I wasn't going to let myself fall there.

We went and saw some great music last night (if you like Mumford or Umphreys, Head and the Heart, etc...look up Little Ugly on Facebook. Named Best Band in CT...they're going to be big, if they choose to...here's a link to their newest song, which dropped yesterday: Little Ugly. Overall great night, lots of fun...and it keeps on in my mind.

I have to go for it at some point.

I usually psyche myself out. I normally just don't...you know...go for it. Once I'm in, it's quite easy. But it's always that initial fear of the lack of reciprocation that gets me. I tell myself to not be afraid of failing, specifically so in this case, because I was pretty certain it would be reciprocated.

At the end of the night, I gave her the pickup hug (she's 5'2 and petite, so it's quite easy). She commented that she could just fall asleep there (this speaks as much to how tired she was as it does the comfort level, but she has talked about how comfortable she finds our hugs to be before). Anyway, as soon as I put her down, I just brought her in, and went for it.

And there was immediate reciprocation.

I'm on three hours' sleep, because I had to get up at 630 for work at the Y at 7. I just got done, and I'm exhausted, and should sleep...I have a big run tomorrow, at which she is coming to be my personal photographer and date for the afterparty. But I can't sleep. At least, not yet.

I know posting here has generally been the kiss of death for previous encounters, but she's different. Of this, I'm certain. For now. ; )

I hope to see her tonight for a bowling bet (I win, she paints me a picture; she wins, I cook her dinner from scratch)...but she may work late. Waiting for last night to come was interminable...waiting for tomorrow will be more of the same. I thought that about the race, but that's been replaced. I'm going to kick some serious ass tomorrow (goal is a top-ten finish for my age group, which is very doable...I could finish top-three for it). I have severe motivation to do it now.

Anyway, I'm happy, and have reason to believe that will grow. Obviously, I hope it does.

Funny how life works. The only reason I her, it would appear, is that I took on an extra shift at the Y (my weekend job). She works out at a different time than I do, as I'm normally at my regular job when she's here during the week, and I'm gone by the time she gets here on the weekends.

I am very much a proponent of the notion of destiny as a starting point...you're put in situations that can alter your life, but it's up to you to make it happen. Who knows...maybe taking the initiative to earn a few more bucks by watching football brought me somewhere better. Definitely gave me something not anticipated.

Don't you have to sleep if you want to do well in the race?

I ran the race (5.5 miles) in 35:04...four seconds off what my goal. I finished 35th overall (out of 900+), sixth in my age group. Part of me wonders what I could have done, had I taken care of myself a bit better...the majority of me is pretty happy with that mark.

So, two things:

1) She hit me with the "I don't know what I want" card...not in relation to me, but in life. I told her this was expected, and life happens. I subscribe to the theory (and Grover can back me on this, as he has heard me say this multiple times)...I prefer to have had the experience than to not. She said she's afraid of me getting hurt. I responded that I'd rather be happy and sad than feel nothing at all.

So, nothing changes, nor will it for awhile. But I'm sure there's a final stage to this...frankly, I don't really care. There's superb chemistry, and we enjoy each other's company.

2) I've been pulling a *lot* of late nights recently with her...out til 4am Tuesday night, just talking in her car. A cop came over to make sure we were okay. Then 3am Wednesday night, 4am Thursday night, and an early 2am last night.

But, she also stayed over last night...so that would be why it was an earlier night, I guess.

So I am maybe going to meet a woman from okstupid. Talking to her on the phone she tells me she's looking at condos. Where she lives now isn't that far from me, but a little further than I like (10-15 min drive.) Where she's looking to move is at least doubling that. I'm thinking about calling off the potential meeting, as if she was currently living that far I wouldn't have even contacted her.

Are you really in the position to be picky enough to limit the women you date by 10-15 miles?

I met a girl through Match.com about 11 years ago who lived outside of Baltimore when I was living in D.C. It was about a 50 minute drive. It was a bit too long to be honest. We dated for a few months, but then I eventually broke it off when sitting in her apartment I noticed more than an acceptable number of piles of dry cat puke in her livingroom. When I pointed one out, she said she just left it there to let it dry so it was easier to clean-up. I am no neat freak, but that was a deal breaker.

Yes & no.

No = she's not fat & most of the women in this area seem to be of the BBW variety. I'm not a wealthy man & not in great shape myself.

Yes = I work 6 days a week (sometimes 7) and go to school. I don't have time to be driving all the way out to the damn suburbs (and I hate driving.)

Honestly, cat puke IS much easier to pick up after it's dried. Sometimes it vacuums up clean.

So, this is how stupid I am.

I've kept the late hours all week. She stayed over last night, and while nothing physical happened (I'm a pretty private person as it is, but I will allow that it doesn't mean something didn't happen earlier), and I worked at 730 this morning (normally it's 7am, but lo and behold, I somehow couldn't leave).

So I worked 730-11 this morning...easy shift. Just making sure people don't die on treadmills, talking to people, etc. It got cut short because I have to work longer tomorrow for a wellness orientation. Then I got a text from Kristy, stating that she was coming to the Y soon, as she never went to sleep (she spent the morning photobombing a friend/coworker into pictures based on a picture she took at the race last weekend...this will become a meme, I know it). We agreed to work out together today, but I figured it would have been later in the afternoon.

I know she takes awhile to get anywhere, so I started running. I ran a 5k, then ran another to try and beat my original time. I jogged another mile, biked 4+ miles, then worked out with her. Then played basketball for an hour.

I feel drunk, and am in severe need of food. And I'm on a severe workout high. I needed to work out (sprained my knee on Tuesday), and having her working out with me is great motivation...for both of us, it would appear.

Anyway, thank God she's going out of town tonight.

I get nervous about a girl just wanting to date me to get close to my 15 year old nephew. He's a lot like me and in 3 years he'll be 18.

I agree. I couldn't argue with her logic. But once I saw just how many dry piles of cat puke there were, it was over. The magic was gone...

I hate being good sometimes. I let her go at 230 last night (we actually fell asleep for a good long while, something both of us needed)...she had to be home to take care of her mom this morning (one of the reasons she's back in Mystic is to help take care of her mom, who is going through some as-yet undefined illnesses).

She didn't want to go, and I didn't want her to go...but I know I'll see her again. After waking up next to her the past two mornings, not doing that this morning *sucked*. It also sucked knowing I had to come work a day-night double shift at the Y on the best day New England has left (and an off-day for my regular job). Bah.

Sweet, dolatime--

She made The Leap.

We met at the docks in Mystic today (near the oldest drawbridge in the country...it's one of the best places I know. Very serene, gorgeous view of everything...I do a lot of writing there. And it's the best day we'll have left in New England this year, weather-wise...so it made sense. I told her I was going, and she decided to meet me.

And she was different. I think I've written about I was never sure whether or not she was into me, because she could be a bit standoffish at times (not like mean, but shy). Today, that front was gone. She was very affectionate and forward with me, which I admit, I like very much. She said something about last night went a long way with her (we played cards, I gave her a very long massage that she really needed, and we passed out without knowing it).

It would appear that she's gonna stick around awhile. Given the trials and tribulations you've read with me over the last year+ (since my ex-gf left me for someone out of nowhere last Memorial Day, sending my life into a tailspin), this is quite a happy chapter.

I think I finally realized a big reason why the hell I'm in this town. I'd long been wondering that, ever since Doreen (the woman I partially moved here for) busted out the crazy card. Among with some other things, I think I kind of know now.
