a friend at work had a restructuring in her department (my old dept). the new job involves cold calling prospective customers, which stresses her out considerably. So, she just stopped doing that part of her job, Office Space style. It's been a week and no one has said anything. I REALLY want her to bring in a fish and gut it at her desk, but so far she is refusing.

This is the same type of change 5 1/2 years ago that brought be to the Learning and Development department.

That is hilarious and even more awesome if she does bring in a fish and cleans it at her desk. You should take her to Chotchkie's for lunch.

I don't know why, but, this perplexes me. Same management?

No, completely different management. Previously I had to jump ship when I was told my job was moving to Colorado Springs (high level business class tech support) so I applied for a position in Training before I was forced to move or out.

Ah ok. I don't blame you for wanting to stay put. Hopefully things will work out for you again and hopefully there won't be any salary reduction as well.

+1.

I'm not sure why I have something like 11 pairs of shoes I'm not wearing. Time to double check them and see if they have any cushioning left in them and maybe give some to Goodwill. I sort of blame my Dad notoriously giving me shoes he buys from time to time.

I'm totally over my problems talking to blondes. On top of that, a blonde is responsible for me no longer loathing peanut butter. I'm living the life.

I can pretty much guarantee they won't be increasing our pay (which is already low by industry standards) to compensate, though I'm going to be pushing for it heavily. Honestly, even with a drastic increase in pay & benefits (that again, in my experience with this company, will not be happening), I'm not sure the headaches he had to go through would be worth it.

Time to pick up the search for a new job.

Heh. And I have confirmation my partner in crime is also in touch with a recruiter, working on his possible exit.

There's 3 programmers working here. One's my boss. He's leaving. That leaves me and my buddy. He's looking. I'm looking. This could get hilariously ugly very fast.

Because I ate battery acid twice when I was a child, and that resulted in everything I ate tasting like peanut butter for five years. I got tired of the taste of peanut butter during that.

Funny you should mention it....

On other news, I'mve been working in my industry for about 7 years now and have been directly involved on 5 GEO missions (and played a supporting role on about 15 others). In this time, I have never run into what we've run into now...a day before we were going to ship the satellite for launch, we ran into a potentially mission-ending problem. It's good we found it before launch, but the level of insanity we're dealing with right is so far out of anything I ever expected to deal with. Timing is funny. If it happened after launch, we'd be similarly crazy but running down another path. Insane.

I think my computer has a virus. Part of the deducing of said thought was to upgrade my firefox first. It took about 3 minutes of surfing without Adblock installed to realize that the internet is a whorish, disgusting place. There was not a single website that I frequent, here included, that is not virtually unsurfable without blocking ads, pop ups and otherwise intruding annoyances.

There should be a law that says, 'If July 4th falls on a Wednesday, you get Thursday and Friday off'.

For that matter today also seems to be quite slow, and tomorrow I anticipate will be at-most a half-day of usefulness.

It's letting me catch up on some stuff in quiet, but man is it uneventful.

The government already fixed that for most other holidays. You could have had "July 4th, being celebrated on July 2nd this year" like so many other holidays. Is that what you really want?

Boss already said tomorrow is a half day for us...which is good, because I am going to a festival to get my drink on tomorrow night.

Oh no. We still get 4th of July off, it's just that if it falls on a Wednesday, you get the rest of the week off. If it falls on a Tuesday, you also get Monday off.

So my kids are going to Utah for the summer to visit their grandparents. They haven't seen them for about 3 years. They will be gone for 6 weeks, I think I might go insane.

I have had them a lot over the past year and it has been a great feeling, especially knowing what I missed out on with all my traveling for work.

For the past couple years I have been working on re-recording my 12" record collection to my computer, since I got a cartridge that sounds very, very nice.

I went to edit a record and noticed that it was an instrumental. No instrumental exists. When I recorded it, the vocals were there & it sounded fine. A little experimentation found that Adobe Audition's input was set to mono.

So every record I have recorded over the past couple years is in mono. Fuck.

It always frustrates me when I'm using another web browser, typically at work, and I have to search something on the web. I feel like with adblock, noscript, and choosing which cookies to accept, I'm relatively safe on my own computer. But running around on IE and going a random search to try to find an answer seems like you're just asking for a virus

I can't imagine even trying to use my friends' computers.

My buddies wife seems to get a show stopper every other week but then again I have a feeling she's the sort that clicks on everything sent my every Tom, Dick and Prince Of Zaire.

Turns out maybe I didn't have a virus at all. It was weird, for like a week I was getting intermitent "server not found" errors on certain sites. But if I refreshed I'd get in. This site, ESPN and Wiki were the main culprits. And it wasn't my connection cause It would happen even if I was doing other stuff that was working fine. But then yesterday it just stopped and everything is working fine.

Same here.

This all goes back to college when Netscape and autocomplete were new things. One day I come back from class and am hanging out with a friend in my dorm room and he wants to search for something online. So he starts typing and some porn sounding site autocompletes. I say something like "WTF. That's not me".

So, we go look in my history and find that as soon as I went to class in the morning, my roommate was surfing porn on my computer. I didn't mind letting him borrow my computer to check online every once in a while but he had his own and I had a chat with him when he got back. He was surprised that I had found out and it was understood from that point on that searches like that were not for my computer. I never had an issue again so either he used his own computer or learned to delete cookies and history.

Also, from that incident, I learned the importance of having a login and password on one's home computer.

Didn't want to start a new thread for this:

Is anyone into modeling? No not pictures. Model airplanes, etc...

I'd like to know what are the brands that provide the most realistic (as possible given that it's plastic) brands out there. I know there's Revell, but, I really don't know of really any other brands out there. Advice on tools, techniques, paints & glues as well.

Thanks!
