Great comeback in the series by the Sens...I'm sure most people, including myself, had written them off after they went down 3-1.

Maybe this explains the Devils' recent struggels...

Brodeur's wife files for divorce

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ESPN.com news services

The wife of New Jersey goaltender Martin Brodeur is filing for divorce, and is seeking custody of the couple's four children, according to newspaper reports Wednesday.

Melanie Brodeur is seeking support for her and the children and an equitable distribution of all property and payment of all legal fees, according to her divorce complaint filed in Essex County Family Court and obtained by The Star-Ledger of New Jersey.

Melanie Brodeur charges her husband committed adultery "on numerous occasions at a variety of locations." She alleges the adultery has been "ongoing and continuous for a period from the fall of 2002 to present date." The two had been separated before the filing for divorce. Melanie Brodeur alleges that her husband committed adultry with his sister-in-law.

After Monday night's 3-1 loss to the Senators in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals, Brodeur said he did not know the divorce papers had been filed. "I wasn't aware of it," he told reporters.

Despite the marital distractions, Brodeur has been brilliant in the playoffs despite Monday's loss. Brodeur is 11-4 with four shutouts and a 1.67 goals-against average during the postseason.

Her sister no less! For shame! She was so omni-present. There cheering wildly with that black cowboy hat on. Poor, poor Melanie Brodeur.

Probably lots of blame to go around for both of them. You'd think he could get enough strange on the road to quell the desire to mess with his wife's sister.

Man, you just don't mess with your wife's sister. That's just wrong. There have to be more than enough roadies for him.

OK, can someone confirm that it was actually his wife's sister (as opposed to, say, his brother-in-law's wife or something)?

But I agree that she deserves her money. After all, I'm sure she made substantial contributions to his success as an NHL goaltender.

Yeah, I believe one is 5ish, and the other 3ish.

They get to see Daddy play for BIG trophy, then told that Mommy and Daddy aren't seeing each other anymore.

It just goes to show you how silly it is, cheering for teams that are big rivals, just cause the team is in your same country. I can't imagine most Viking fans cheering for the peckers, just cause they are from the same conference.

Most of what I was saying was just joking, but, it seems like some are taking it too seriously.

I agree. Cheering for the Packers would be horrible. Though they are neck and neck with the Vikings as HB's Most Hated NFL Team(tm). I don't think it happens in NFL or too many other major sports.

It happens in college football. I went to Michigan. Undergrad. Law School. Spent 8 wonderful years in Ann Arbor. I love Michigan football (and hockey, of course). I hate the other Big Ten teams. Ohio State, you'll never hive a more wretched hive of sum and villiany. Iowa, Illionois, Michigan State, Purdue, Penn State, all of them. I can't stand them. As soon as bowl season comes around, I want to see them win. I want the Big 10 to be every other conference each year. It's better for the conference and ultimately better for the teams in it because of exposure, popularity = better recruiting. The only hard call is Ohio State. It's tough. A very tough call...

The US/Canada split in hockey is very different then that, I've gone over it before.

Not to keep beating this into the ground, but while I see your point the Vikings/Packers analogy doesn't really work. I think you're misreading the rivalries in Canadian hockey.

The Oilers and Flames have a long-standing rivalry, probably as heated as Packers/Vikings or Yanks/Red Sox. The Habs and Leafs have a good rivalry, but lately it's been more based on history than anything on the ice (both teams haven't been good at the same time in ten years). Most Leaf fans respect the Habs, and vice versa.

Other than that... there really aren't any great rivalries between Canadian teams. Sure, Sens fans hate the Leafs, but it's pretty much a one-way street.

In other words, the two teams that were left (Sens and Canucks) don't have any rivalries with the other Canadian teams, so why not cheer for them?

I recall bbor saying that he would rather piss glass than see the Sens win the Cup before the Leafs. Now, if someone says something like that, wouldn't you think they would be cheering for whoever is playing the Sens?
