That Fox News article reads as if the author just read Sony's marketing portfolio and didn't actually have one in hand.

It's just an observation that some of the more notoriously liberal publications seem to be thinking this way.

If I said something like "the more notoriously conservative publications, like Fox News" seem to be favoring Sony PS3" I'd get my head handed to me. And folks would be right to do it.

Thus ends the threadjack.

Nice story from some guy over at IGN:

So i went to TRU before, and they had a PS3 in stock. Guess what?

It was a 20gig model(which shocked me that the ebay lemmings did not find out about this one) of which i'm thinking 'finally', but i really wanted the 60Gig model. So i grabbed the ticket anyway, but after thinking about it, i know i'd rather have the 60Gig model.

So, i was ready to return it(ticket) when two guys ran up to me saying 'PS3???' and i respond back 'yes, this was the last one', one replying 'damn, i could get $1200 for that one!', and i had to hold my tongue because to me these guys could just drop dead.

So i'm walking around and there following me, and i ask 'what are you doing, they repyed back 'oh, nothing, are you sure your going to keep it?', i told them lol..yes.

I then waited and waited finally, i talked to one guy(mid 30') who was such a major PS fan it was amazing, he was riddling off the specs of the PS3 and how he went everywhere.(now he was in the store before those guys were, btw).

He then went on about how ebay sellers are killing him, so i told him this. If you buy your favoriate 3 PS3 games and open them infront of me, i'll give you this ticket. The guy freaked out..'screaming..YES, are you serious?!" I said pick out your fav. three(because he said he would love at least 4 launch games) and open them and this is yours.

He bought Genji(i think) and Madden and COD3.(because i said besides Resistance)..and he bought 4 other PS3 accessories as well. He opened them all..lol, and i told him, 'i think your honest now.." and gave hime the PS3 ticket.

It made his his day, his kid even tried to hug me he was so happy.(but i told him,'Thank You, but there was no need for that, just enjoy your PS3). Both him and his dad were so damn happy.

And for the first time, it felt like this world did not resolve around greed.

I'm still looking for a PS3(60Gig), but giving him that ticket was what i think it should all be about.

It's odd how much a 1hr ride can change your holiday season.

(btw: And it felt so good even more so, because those 2 ebay potential sellers saw it all happen, and it was priceless seeing the anger in their faces.)

(If this would have been a 60Gig model, honestly i would have kept the ticket for myself.)

Well they're still being shipped if you are in the right place at the right time. My wife got a 20g model yesterday at walmart. She saw a clerk carrying two of them out of the backroom to be put on the shelf and nabbed one before he got there. Turns out they got four total, all 20g models.

We had 20 at work yesterday. I sold the first one to an elderly couple (go figure) and the floodgates just erupted as folks hanging around the game corral noticed that.

It's also nice to see someone who gives a damn about his fellow man once in awhile.

You did a good thing there. I hope you find a 60gig, because you deserve one after that.

I finished Resistance yesterday (I've been playing it quite a bit obviously). Really enjoyed the single player game. I liked the fact that it was a bit like Resident Evil in a FPS. I played the online multiplayer a few times. Really surprised at how smooth the 40 person games were and how easy it was to get into a game quickly. I'm not an online deathmatch fan, but it was certainly a much better experience than the other times that I've tried to play online.

As a bonus, I took Resistance back and traded it in for $40. So I ended up being able to play the whole game for $20 and was able to get credit towards a new game.

Nomura Securities' Yuta Sakurai believes the PS3 will be Sony's last console; sees Hirai appointment as Segalike shift to software.

By Tor Thorsen, GameSpot Posted Nov 30, 2006 7:20 pm PT

In the months leading up to the launch of the PlayStation 3 and Wii, barely a week went by without one analyst or another issuing proclamations of doom or promises of riches for both Sony and Nintendo. Now that both consoles are on the market, many investment firms' in-house game-industry experts are giving their assessments of the two companies' fortunes.
The prognostication reached a fever pitch today, when Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) shuffled its executive lineup. Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) president Kaz Hirai took over the position of SCE president Ken Kutaragi, who was promoted to SCE chairman and retained the title of SCE group CEO. Hirai will also be SCE's chief operating officer, and will relocate to Sony's Tokyo headquarters from SCEA's HQ in Foster City, California.
While Sony spun the changes as a "strengthening" of its executive team, many analysts saw it as a vote of no confidence for Kutaragi's stewardship of the PlayStation 3. The high-tech console's blu-ray laser drive has been plagued by component manufacturing woes, which drastically limited supply of the console for its Japanese and North American launches, and delayed its European debut until 2007.
Some analysts went one step further, taking Hirai's succession as a harbinger of doom. No one was more pessimistic than Nomura Securities' Yuta Sakurai, who made the astounding prediction that the PlayStation 3 would be the last console Sony, the current console market-share leader, would ever make.
"The appointment of Hirai could be the start of a shift from hardware to software," said Sakurai. "I cannot now imagine a PlayStation 4." According to the Financial Times, Sakurai's reasoning is that "Hirai’s new global portfolio puts a predominantly software-focused manager in charge of the company." His logic is reportedly that, with the emphasis moving to software, Sony would go the way of Sega, transforming from a console-maker to a mere game publisher.
Critics were quick to point out that, despite its problems, Sony is primarily an electronics manufacturer, and has invested billions in the research and development of the PS3's technology. Despite the hyperbolic tone of Sakurai's comments, SCEA publicity chief Dave Karraker issued a polite response. "Following the launch of the PlayStation 3 just a few weeks ago, and witnessing the huge consumer demand for the product, I think it would be rather short-sighted for anyone to predict there might not be a next generation of PlayStation product," he told GameSpot.

SA and I were chuckling about this last night because one of our favorite pastimes is laughing at video game "financial analysts". It must be a swell gig to be paid to make ludicrous predictions and have no one remember them in 5 years when they matter. It's not to say it might not happen, it just seems a little early to put dirt on Sony's grave 2 weeks into the current generation.

I can't imagine Sony not making a PS4 unless there is a colossal collapse of the gaming market. Assuming the market continues to grow, it seems like it would be foolish for anyone to predict that Microsoft and Sony won't produce another gaming system in 5-10 years.

I see this more as a grooming of Kutaragi for the overall Sony CEO role.
