Not at all. The Devils have a couple of guys played college hockey right now, but they're not going get the job done. It's a good thing that they've locked up Brodeur for a few more years because they don't have anyone else for the near future.

I don't really know if it's the goalkeeping, but the Devils' AHL team in Albany is perenially one of the worst in the league. I mean, the River Rats are awful practically every single year now. The Devils won't be affiliated with Albany next year, so I'll be following the Lowell Lock Monsters to see New Jersey prospects from now on. If Lowell doesn't look good for the next couple of years, I think they're gonna just have to find the fountain of youth for Brodeur.

To steal a line I saw somewhere else... now the Senators can get started on declaring themselves the 2007 Stanley Cup champions.

Nice goal by Pomenville.Perhaps this offseaon Alfredsson can work on his backwards pivots.

So is there anything to the idea of no Stanley-Cup winner ever having a European captain? The idea of course being that North Americans' ultimate goal is the Cup (IIRC, Modano is the only American captain to win the Cup) while Euros dream of the World Championships and Olympics. Martin Rucinsky is the best player that comes to mind. When you see him playing for the Czech Republic he absolutely gives his all. Back in the NHL, he collects a paycheck.

Compare the effort of Jason Smith or Ryan Smyth (and many others) to Daniel Alfredsson and there is no comparison.

Or is this complete bunk?

Not to beat a dead horse, but had to share this example of Ottawa's tough-as-nails sports media at work. I swear this is a direct quote from today's Ottawa Citizen:

Quote:
With close to 20,000 tickets sold and the game a sell-out, ticket scalpers had been hoping to make a killing last night. But they met their match in the canny Senators fans.

Fans without tickets frequently were able to beat the professional scalpers down, and succeeded in buying the black-market tickets at close to face value.
Yes folks, in most towns, scalpers selling playoff tickets at face value would be an indication of lack of interest among fans. But not in Ottawa -- here it's a sign of "canny" fans managing to drive the price down. This truly is Hockey Country!

Now that it's over, I can say......

*whew*

Carolina did outstanding after getting off to a lousy start in the game. Kept frustrating the Devils, kept chipping it out of their own end, and finally got paid off with the goals in the second and third. The PK was superb and it had to be to keep the Devils in check when all the calls were going the other way in the first period.

Now come the Sabres. Carolina's had to grind out a couple of series. It'll be interesting to see if they're ready to go back to playing track meets. I make no predictions because I invariably think they'll be wrong, especially if I pick the team I root for.

Wow, it's like the Sharks have forgotten how to defend against a power play, and for that matter they've forgot how to score on one too. They really need to work on their special teams over the next 2 days to get ready for wednesday. I won't get to watch since I have to work, but I really would love to come home to a 3-3 series.

from the moment in game 3 that the Sharks took the pedal OFF the medal and letup for the first time in a month to try and protect a measly 2-1 lead - Edmonton has out and out kicked their ass.

very disappointing. for over a month the Sharks dominated - but the way they have played these last 3 games - I have a lot of hope, but no confidence they can win even one of the next 2 games.

Plus I give a lot of credit to the Oilers, they are clicking on all cylinders right now.

I was hoping cities in both Countries were past this, now I imagine Edmonton will feel the need to boo the US anthem, hopefully they can rise above the SJ stupidity.

I hope the EDM fans can get over this and not boo.I am sure there will be a few assholes that deem it nesesary, but for the most part i hope it is avoided.

Not the greatest location for it in Eveleth, MN, I believe they are talking about moving it in with the Excel Center in St Paul.

Yeah, not so sure what the idea of booing the Canadian National Anthem was. I think I read somewhere that you could hear someone booing the U.S. National Anthem on the television feed at the beginning of game 4 in Edmonton, but even so, that's ridiculous.

I missed the beginning of the game, but living in California I know that there are plenty of morons around here, so I'm not really surprised by the booing. I don't like it, and don't believe there is ever a reason for it. Especially when a large portion of the team you're cheering for comes from Canada.

Not to defend the booing, but why are people still surprised by this? Why is it even news when fans do this anymore? About three years ago, I attended a minor-league baseball game between the New Orleans Zephyrs and the Calgary Cannons. The Canadian anthem was played for the Cannons, and a bunch of fans in New Orleans booed. If it happens at a Pacific Coast League baseball game, it's certainly no surprise to me that it happens at a high-profile event like an NHL playoff game.

It's not cool, but it happens.

Interesting fact: The Sens were the first team in NHL history to be eliminated from the playoffs by a short-handed OT goal.

Kinda neat that anyone could have plucked Pomenville off the waiver wire at the beggining of the season for a mere $62,500.

Dunno...you don't seem to have slowed down that much since Ottawa got bounced this year. Matter of fact, I think you've stepped up a little. Shoot, with the sharks trolling the waters around Ottawa looking for some Sens chum, you should be right busy in the offseason.

Sorry, mini threadjack question.

Anybody know of a list of upcoming free agents, both UFA and RFA? Until I get an upgrade at work, I'm hit or miss on being able to view some sites, so I might have found this info in my searches and just been unable to view the page due to having to use an older browser.

Either way, this info is to help an ongoing discussion about the changeover the Oilers will experience in the offseason and just how much of the current roster we figure will be gone once the they're out of the playoffs.

As a matter of fact, this question came up on the NHL.com mailbag last week. Apparently, the official list will not be released until shortly after the playoffs end, but there's got to be an unofficial list someplace. Off the top of my head, I'm not sure where to look, but I'll dig around.
