These are awesome.
We simply must do them more often - I think we readdress LS's idea of passing the baton to the winner after this is over.

The Wizard of Oz was my top Children's choice. Great pick by larry on that one. Really liked the Kama Sutra pick as well. Really liked NoMyth's pick for Autobiography. Like others have said, Ender's Game would have worked batter in Fantasy/Sci-Fi. As a series, it doesn't hold up as well.

I'm going to be sweating it out through these next few picks. My top two choices are still on the board and I hope they stay that way, but I've got a bad feeling they'll come off.

wahhhhhh. People don't like my picks. Wahhhhhh. I remember in the music one I got killed way worse then anyone has been killed in this one for picking Foxy Lady instead of Purple Haze. Thats the nature and fun of these, people are gonna be critical of your picks if they don't like them. I think thats what makes them fun for everyone. As a participant I think half the fun is defending your picks. |

DT, I actually really like all your picks...just not where you picked them. I think there were too many "heavy hitters" out there that you skipped on to get the Foundation Series and Einstein's Autobiography early on. The Einstein one would probably have been available many rounds later, at least. Foundation Series is a little like Ichiro; he's going to get you runs, steals and average...but you aren't going to be able to draft him unless you draft him earlier than he's worth.

I was thinking of a Historical Nation draft. For example...
Leader (Chief Executive): Army Chief Navy Chief: Air Chief: Chief Economist: Chief Diplomat: and so on...

but isn't the end-result all that matters. my theory was "i feel there's less depth in great series than there are in fiction books so i'm going to draft series first" regardless of the "cache" of the work within it. which is why i've left the things that play more to my strengths for later in the draft Last edited by DaddyTorgo : 02-26-2008 at 02:50 PM. |

I spent much of work today thinking of how I would run a general History draft. I also had another idea for a draft that would probably just end in chaos. So I might do that one. |

It is, but this is the reason that you're getting shelled right now. All they have to look at is what you have, and you don't have a complete team right now. Some people also think that Foundation is a worse choice than Potter for series...regardless of whether or not they are correct, I can't be the only person who has wondered if Asimov wasn't a better pick as a Sci-Fi category.

Wow, this would be freaking amazing. I wonder if anyone would have the cojones to draft Hitler, and if so how people would respond. He was nothing if not an incredibly charismatic figure, twisted and sick as he was.

I can't help but think that there is some better series out there that hasn't been selected. I couldn't necessarily tell you what it is, but we are heavily dominated by Fantasy and Science Fiction thus far.

These things are lots of fun. Just two words of advice for anyone planning to run one:
- They take a lot of time to run - Put a ton of thouht into the categories. If you don't strike the right balance you can wind up with a real letdown

And half the fun of being the peanut gallery is criticizing the picks. Isn't that the whole point of the "outsiders"? To think they would do it perfect and you all are morons?

I've been trying to find some of the old drafts, and I can't find some of them. I can't find the movie draft or the FOFC member draft (both were in 2004 I think). I think those threads must have gotten deleted.

Winner. End of game. (OK, not actually, but hella good pick). But also, I'm pissed because I was going to do an All Undrafted Team and you just stole the sports book I didn't think anyone would pick. I also lost my sci-fi pick with Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? You jerks are good. |

Nothing has been deleted since the last board move unless the creator of the thread deleted it. I'll see if I can dig anything up.

Btw, Romance of the Three Kingdoms is the book I was alluding to early, which I'm sure was obvious enough in itself.
I think it's a great pick, one of the greatest pieces of literature in the history of the world, one of the most widely read and the cultural influences in the East are immeasurable. That said, I didn't think it would go over that hot over here..it's just not that popular, which is a shame. So maybe a bad pick in a popularity contest catering to the voters here. Great pick imo though, and a steal this late. |

I did a search for all threads with the word "draft" in the title, so maybe they used a different word?
I found the FOFC Member Draft, but that was through a link in a different thread, it didn't come up in my search results (even though it should have). Last edited by sabotai : 02-26-2008 at 03:53 PM. |

Oh, I've still got my plans for an Undrafted team and I've even replaced my sports book. Now, if I lose that one, I'm taking my ball and going home.
