Pollak is a nice pick for Indy. He was a stud at ASU.

Chase Daniel is going to be too short to be well-rated by the NFL guys. He is listed as 6'0 now, which means he is probably 5'10.

I have a feeling that Tebow will be under a lot of scrutiny, since he is so high profile (think Quinn and Brohm--guys that have been under the public eye for a long time) and plays in a spread offense.

As long as they don't flop this season, Stafford and Sanchez will probably look pretty good to scouts.

Patrick Lee is a nice choice as well. Physical corner that plays press well.

A guy to watch is JR Dan LeFevour out of Central Michigan. 6'3", 225 lbs. 3600 yards and 27 TD through the air, 1100 yards and 19 TD on the ground last season. Kid is a stud.

Also next year we'll get:

Curtis Painter
Sam Bradford
Todd Boeckman
Chase Holbrook

I think next year there'll be a vastly better group of QBs than there are this year.

This draft actually felt short....

Two rounds in just under 6-hours, with a ton of draft pick trades.

Oddly, not too many veterans traded today.

Sorry, I've seen him throw it to the other team too many times to take that seriously. I know he has a NFL arm, but he needs a good senior year to get a real shot I think.

Compares To: KEVIN BOSS-New York Giants...Like Boss, Bennett is a rare-sized tight end whose basketball experience allows him to get to passes most shorter tight ends cannot. He is a more consistent blocker than Boss, but will lose balance and overextend when he can't sink his pads to anchor. He has the long reach to haul in the pass at its high point, but despite good timed speed, he is a marginal route runner who will take unneeded steps in his route progression. Still, based on the talent here, he is the most "complete" tight end in the 2008 draft class.

Ok, I guess that's good.

Nice first day for the Pack, plus the team has 4 picks in the first 2 rounds tomorrow. I expect some OL to be taken then.

Painter, not Brees or Orton, holds the Purdue single season passing record. I think he's a first day pick.

Word -- I've watched Painter not come through in too many spots for the Boilermakers to believe he will be an effective NFL QB.

interesting pick by the Pats with the corner out of Colorado. According to cnnsi.com it seems like a big reach.

Wow, Thompson just said the Packers were actually trying to move up from the bottom of the second round and couldn't get anything worked out. He made a joke about trying to show he could move the other way in the draft when he said it....

Yeah, there's a lot of guys that if they have a good year could get the same kind of love Matt Ryan gets. Pat White, whatshisname in Alabama, Harrell, and there's probably two or three in the Pac 10 I don't know about.

My gut reaction to the Dolphins first day drafting

OT Jake Long
We needed a franchise T, along with just about everything else and from all indications, he can be that guy. The safe, solid pick for #1 overall.

DE Phillip Merling
I wanted Brohm here, but Merling makes a hell of a lot of sense. 1st round type talent that fell to the 2nd and we need to get younger on the D-line. Another quality pick.

QB Chad Henne
When Brohm got taken by the Packers, the apartment I was in erupted into screams of fury and swearing from me (Dolphins fan) and the Packers fan. The Bengals and Lions fans in attendence broke out into riotous laughter. Honestly, I'd still have preferred Brohm, but I think Henne will become a pretty good NFL QB. Certainly better than Beck.

All in all, I'm -much- happier about this draft's first day than last year's, though honestly it's not like it could get much worse.

Still, I'm really happy with how the day went. We got a franchise T, a quality young DE and our QB of the future.

Bengals picks

Not that Rivers is bad but I don't understand not trading up to get Ellis -- especially only costing a #3 for a #5 to slide up a couple of spots to grab him.

I refuse to acknowledge that the second pick even happened. What a bunch of idiots.

In looking up prospects, there was a pretty big dropoff for TE after Bennett was off the board and he gives Dallas another potential offensive weapon on offense while replacing Fasano. I'm at a loss to figure out where Dallas will go for their 3rd and 4th rd picks (DT / WR / LB ?), but I feel pretty good about how they did the first day.

I like Albert, the Chiefs get good marks too. But the Steelers got maybe the #2 RB and the #1 WR, and weren't drafting in high bonus spots.

I had no problem with the Packers taking a QB in the first 2 rounds. I don't see it as them worrying about Rodgers, but rather than it really was a position of need. They have Rodgers and then.. nothing. (Ok, I'm not going to count Jerry Babb and whatever else they have on the roster right now)

You need 2 competent QBs on the roster. While I'm not sure if Brohm is going to be that guy it seems like a decent fit given his experience.

I'll give Thompson a pass on Nelson right now. I was scratching my head on Jennings and Jones the last few years so.. I have a hunch Nelson might get a few pounds added to his body and be used similar to David Martin was.

I think Rice made the right call if he felt like he was ready.

He wasn't going to get any bigger or faster, and those were the only reasons he was not going any higher this year. Another year in college would have been nice for his fans, but all it would have done for him was put another 300 carries of mileage on him and risk injury.

Your probably right, but my Dad went to RU and I grew up watching them and being a fan. It was nice to see them doing so well after enduring so many brutal years. With Rice leaving I have a feeling they take a step back. Plus as soon as the Penn State job opens up Schiano is gone, then it's back to the basement.

I don't think you can argue about the Chiefs draft day. Flowers was in a lot of first round mock drafts, so you could certainly argue the Chiefs got three first round-quality players today. Dorsey falling down to No. 5 was very fortunate -- time for Tamba Hali to break out now that he has help inside. In the long run, the question will be if Dorsey was worth letting go of Jared Allen. Hopefully it will be a wash.

I like what I see of Albert and I think he fits in with the Chiefs affinity for strong, mobile linemen. I still don't know if he can pass block from the tackle spot, and I don't think the Chiefs know either. I know his stock rose big time throughout the offseason, but if Albert ends up being a guard -- even a very good guard -- that's a blowing of a first round pick. I lodge my concern with the right to say I'm wrong later.

Flowers was a nice value pick. Definitely need help at corner, and Flowers looks to be a good cover 2 guy. I can't say there is anyone taken after Flowers I would rather have had them take. You could make an argument for a receiver like Kelly, Jackson or Sweed, but frankly I would rather have Flowers and Manningham than one of those receivers and any of the corners left.

The Chiefs will be big players Sunday as well -- nine picks tomorrow, including three of the first 19 picks. Definitely expect a WR in that group -- maybe bring Doucet in to reunite with Bowe? Flynn's out there too -- we could just becomes LSU Tigers North.

Your out of your mind if you don't think Schiano takes the PSU job when it's open.

He was all but gone this year and he turned down Miami the year before. If you think he is gonna coach at Rutgers the next 20 years your crazy.
