This artist managed to pull off a nearly impossible task: make a song that crosses all listener barriers to achieve multi-platinum success while still being credible (or at least a reasonable facsimile thereof, all things considered). It served as the soundtrack and thematic calling-card for a popular film, notched a Grammy and a Golden Globe, became the first rap song to win an Academy Award -- and wasn't some lame piece of crap like My Heart Will Go On (which, I might add, beat out Elliott Smith's "Miss Misery" for the Oscar that year, an unforgiveable if understandable mistake).

I thought Elton/Eminem would have been a better choise. IMO you are grasping with Lose yourself from my own personnal definition of crossover. To me crossover is someone performing outside their element, Lose yourself is a rap song and eminem is a rapper. To me it doesn't matter if people from various industries enjoyed the song, that only tells me that they found a way to make them enjoy a rap song.
