I'm playing as Birmingham, after-patch, with the big "S".
1st place, 2nd season, 33 games in 32 wins, 1 draw(Arsenal), 0 losses. I use the 31312 tactic with simple orders for team and players(keep things simple). My finances are set for along time to come, no worries for me. Reserves and youth are controlled by by lacky asst mgr., strictly for training young players and moving them out for cash. That FM Editor sure is great though. |

Hmmm.. I think I might have hit a possible bug? David Clarke, a 19 year old keeper, rejected my offer from Harrogate. Now, I'm trying to click on the link to his name and it doesn't work. He seems to have disappeared from the game universe? Did he decide to retire instead of come play for us?

Very possibly, if a player decides not to continue in professional football then he's removed from the game. If you 'catch' him before he retires then this is indicated on his profile (something along the lines of 'thinks he has no future in professional football'). This does happen with semi-pro level footballers a fair bit. Last edited by Marc Vaughan : 12-30-2004 at 08:38 AM. |

...and that's apparently all I get.
I try to launch the game (5.0.2) and it tells me to insert the correct CD in the drive. Um, the correct CD is in the drive. Something tells me this is not good. Bugger. |

its a problem with the patch... see my "f... sigames" thread. It seems to have happened to quite a few people ,but it is a "necesarry evil" according to some mods on their boards to stop pirates from getting the game.
i'll pm you with ways to get around it |

Look for the F*** SIGames thread out there, GB.
The Copy Protection the publisher uses prior to SIGames's final patch does does not play well with some kinds of CD-Rom drives. SI Games replaces the copy protection when they release a "Final" patch for the game with a different version that's not so finicky.. There is a No-CD patch out, however.

These CD problems always seem to pop-up with every new PC game. And amazingly you could probably still buy a pirated copy of FM in Beijing for a buck.

Thanks, guys.
I looked at SI Games help section for assistance. I don't have one of the drives they mention as being incompatible. I tried the three suggestions: 1. Remove emulation software I don't run any emulation software (that I know of, but since I'm not really sure what emulation software is and I didn't recognize any program names they mention, I'm guessing that I don't have any). 2. Get rid of Adware/Spyware. I ran Adware and got rid of quite a bit of stuff. Two things (BrilliantDigital and Auto-run Threats Variant D-97) would not come off, even after running Spyware in safe mode. So maybe that's the problem. 3. Create a New User Tried that. No luck. Same problem. Hate to resort to no-CD patches, but I don't see another option at this point. I paid for the game and would like to play it. Edit: In case it helps solve the problem for future patches, these are the drives I've got: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4040B LITE-ON LTR-52327S The game wouldn't run from either of them. Emulation software is normally stuff which helps with burning disks - ie. making virtual disk images of CD's on a hard-drive etc. ... these are also frequently used for pirating games so disabling them (normally closing the icons in the tool bar basically) might be required before running games ... |

Don't make the mistake of making your whole roster...shall I say 'roided.
Then they'll all be set as goalies, if you do this, make enough to back-up as injuries WILL occur. Then sit back and watch your team tear through the competition. Also, make sure you give your team a nice hefty starting balance in the finance department. Upgrade all your scouts, coaches, and physios. During the season you'll get ALOT of offers for your players, don't be tempted to sell, let them SUFFER! The press will continue to bug you about your new found players, answer back with no comment, buggy little f'ers. I won with Birmingham, only real competition is Arsenal, Chelsea, and Man U, with Arsenal being my only draw of the season, 37 wins 0 losses 1 draw. All other competition were easily disposed off. I won all cups, received $21million for winning EPL plus big paydays for winning the other cups. That is all I can think off for now. |

I figure my team will be successful for awhile, until age prevents that, but I'll have enough funds to replace them eventually.
These ratings boost are a one-time thing for my career, as each ratings change I would have to start a new one. I just love it when the media ask about my new found players, "will I keep him", "bigger teams are interested". and the like. I consider my team the next coming of Arsenal and Man U. |

The editor is not all perfect, ratings change might be a lttle less or higher than you want it to be. Say for instance you give player a rating of 19 in finishing, might show up as 15 or 16 when new game is started, or 17 reflexes might show up as 19 reflexes.
Other attributes must be compensated for the position you want that player to play. If Arsenal and Man U, are like baseballs Yankees(all the talent), then my Birmingham will join them also. |

If Arsenal's Henry can have a 30 goal season, then my Dean Curtis will have a 33 goal season.
There were times when my team had to overcome some injuries, making me use some of my "regular" players, but still persevered, tactics set-up has alot to do how your team performs. I must say that the "regulars" are almost as good as the "boosted" ones. I still have fun playing the game though. |

Mixing and matching my "regulars" and "boosted" players still made each match competitive. This season is over, we'll see how my team looks like in the next one, the ratings could lower on the veteran players that were hit with injuries this past season.

Oh this game is already confusing me. I picked Europe as the continent, then Germany.. what active league? first, second, regional? Database size? Players from what other countries?
I can't even start the game without getting confused. Todd Last edited by MizzouRah : 12-30-2004 at 08:06 PM. |

OK - Which league are you most interested in? (ie. where do you want to manage) ... for your first game I'd select choosing just that nation and as far down it as you intend to manage (if you're planning on staying the top divisions then perhaps enable the top two though in case you get relegated). All these selection decide pretty much is what leagues are fully simulated within the game world, other 'inactive' leagues will be 'spoofed' in that their players and teams will still largely be present, but you won't be able to view the league tables etc. for them. DB size I'd suggest to set to 'small' for your first game while you're getting used to things (it basically retains more players the larger the setting you choose - I'm guessing that in your initial game you'll play fairly quickly and make mistakes, but enjoy the learning so keeping options low so that it processes reasonably fast is a good idea?). Hope this helps, Marc |

A question. sometimes on throw-ins, my player throws down the line to the other teams player. Could it be that this player is totally clueless on throw-ins? Rating for long throws is 14.

I have an extra copy of the game. I ordered FM from sendit.com but it did not arrive in time for my vacation, so I picked up a copy of WSM. FM is unopened and still in the sendit.com box.
If anyone is looking for either one (I am keeping one, but is someone really wants WSM, I will just keep FM), let me know and I can send it to you for what I paid for it. just private message me |

Thanks, now I know how people who have never played ootp feel. So, just picking Scottland, third division is ok? What about "extra detail"? Leave the players loaded from selected divisions. What about "show unique id's"? what is that option? Thanks, Todd |

unique id's is the player's id number. so say a player's picture isn't in the game, just look at his id number, find a pic of him on the internet, name that pic his id number, and he has a pic.
If there are still regens, it may point to who is a regen of who. Yeah, just picking Scotland 3rd will choose Scotland from the 3rd up. I think extra detail is where the matches are played even if you're not active in the league, i think it gives more realistic results and stuff. |

Be sure to check the "extra detail" box for the country you intend to play in. I would suggest not checking it for any other country. I've got no clue what "show unique IDs" is. I didn't see that when I started a game this afternoon, but I'm playing with fictional players. Maybe that changes things? |

i think unique id's are in the actual game options settings, where you set the skin.
