I'm kinda driving myself a little crazy...
Ikea discontinued their "beech" color. Thursday they are supposed to get the last of one cabinet in. I already bought the drawers & everything for it (in case they wouldn't be available) but left it all in the packaging in case this cabinet never came back in stock (I was assured they were getting one more shipment.) What is killing me is that in this one cabinet, I actually like it in their black/brown color better, but most of my furniture, including end and coffee tables, are in the beech. But I think it would look ok if everything on that one wall was in black/brown. Basically, I bought all the beech because if I didn't, I couldn't change my mind. I might just take it all back & buy it in black/brown, but... arrrrgh! What if it makes that wall too dark! |

You guys remember Dominique Strauss-Kahn, right? The big wig financial guy (and at the time, probable candidate for the French Presidency or the next head of the EU) who was arrested for sexually attacking a hotel worker in New York City, but there wasn't enough evidence to go with a full prosecution, so they just kicked him out of the states instead?
He's in the news today, for being a frequent client of a prostitution ring, and his lawyer had the best legal defensez; nvestigators have already questioned a number of prostitutes who have admitted having sex with Mr Strauss-Kahn. He insists he did not know that the women were prostitutes. "I challenge you to distinguish a naked prostitute from any other naked woman," his lawyer Henri Leclerc has told French television. Not quite Johnny Cochrane there.. I could come up with a version of glove won't fit, but it WILL get me boxed

Gotta love the French:
"I challenge you to distinguish a naked prostitute from any other naked woman," his lawyer Henri Leclerc has told French television. Here, we get into a lather about some of Slick Willie's escapades and parsing what the definition of "is" is SI

I just didn't like the way the place is set up. Too many people think that the paths are the place to let their kids lay down on the floor and stop and talk to people. Frustrating and after about 5 minutes of being in there, I wanted to leave.
Chair looks comfy though.

I think it just was more painfully obvious because of the lack of room to move around in there. I just got a couch (not from IKEA though) and it's very difficult for me to get off of it. So I know the feeling.

Don't... Unless you want to spend money. The thing I'm building is a TV unit that has 8 drawers in it. The stereo & DVD players will go in a matching 6ft tower next to it. I'll never have to bend over to get to the DVD player again. And they can be nicely organized under the TV! This is what is great about modular furniture. Design what you want. |

Grrrrrrrr. Lost out on my first wedding today. A couple found my pics, loved what I had done, booked me for a wedding and an engagement shoot. They requested shots at the same site and similar to another shoot I had done. Difference? The other shoot was a model and her army bf....two good looking people...and they were dressed up. The new couple? Very overweight, which is no biggie, but it was accentuated by the fact that the fiancé showed up in a t-shirt and jeans that weren't flattering. We did the shoot, thought the photos turned out fine considering he never smiled and she looked uncomfortable the entire time. She complained about her double chin (I never edit body unless specifically asked) so I reedited some and then complained that she only got 25 edited shots (even though I only charged $75 for the entire 2 hour shoot plus edited shots). Ended up canceling me today. Ugh.
This is why it's more of a hobby to me than anything else. People annoy me too much to do this full time. |

Went by my old neighborhood & stopped by to hear all the news from my former neighbor. I used to have a kinda on/off thing with one of her daughters. She told me that this daughter got married a year ago to a guy she met on the internet only a week before. Now she can't stand him.

Why the hell can't there be some kind of consensus on how to label the settings on broadcast spreaders? You shouldn't have to use calculus to figure out what setting to use when your spreader isn't on the list on the package. Craftsman is a pretty standard brand. I have no idea why one company picks 5.5 while the equivalent on another brand is 2A or 7.

Never a good way to start the day when you go, "Wait, why is my floor wet?" The other issues is it's in my laundry room, I only go in there when I do laundry, the liquid that spilled is colored, and I have carpet in that area.

In my laundry room I have two big plastic containers for my water softener salt and one I dump Potassium Permanganate in with water to help counter iron in my water and such. The one with water in it has two pipes attached to it. Whoever installed it never thought to seal the pipe highest up. The water got high enough, and now I got purple water soaking my carpet in that room. I went and got something to seal it and duct taped it on top of that because I couldn't simply stand there and hold it into place until it sealed since I had to go to school. Now, I have lived in this house for over 3 years so I'm curious as to why the water level was even that high as it might mean the pipe to drain the liquid isn't working either. I'll have to look at the water level over the next couple of days or so to see what is going on. Regardless, I need new carpet.

I think I jinxed myself at lunch. First I said that I envisioned my afternoon would go smoothly because there was little testing going on.
In the afternoon, I got two calls for two different failures. I investigated one of the failures and assumed a tool we use did something correctly. It didn't. So now I'm spending the evening trying to fix what the tool broke. Luckily it means the hardware is fine, but I have a little egg on my face for assuming this tool also known as "composter" worked. Then I get an email from the Program Manager who is irritated with me for directing some people to do something. He wants to schedule a meeting to discuss it. I've been working this issue for 3 months and only sent the "direction" email after consult with the lead engineer on the program. This task has dragged on long enough and we've probably spent more money trying to avoid doing a test than actually doing the dumb test. So I schedule a meeting for tomorrow morning so we can maybe get this thing moving only to find out that the PM didn't put on his calendar that he'd be out on Friday. Monday it is. Seriously, this will be the last time I say that things should go OK. At least it wasn't a Friday afternoon. Friday at 3 is when things TYPICALLY go wrong. /tk

I've done two weddings, one in a parter situation and one solo. I will admit the solo one had me nervous the entire time. Turned out well, but I will never admit I'm great which is why my price will always be bargain basement. I wouldn't mind never doing another one again as long as I can pick up enough gigs to let me buy some better equipment. |

I've been reading about photography, thinking of getting into it more, and the one thing I don't think I would ever do is weddings. 1) I hate weddings, 2) I hate people, and 3) I'm always worried about making a mistake, and can't image what would happen if I lost all of the pictures from someone's wedding.
In all seriousness though, I'm only really interested in photographing nature and cities ("city life" down to abandoned buildings). I'll leave the dealing with groups of people to those who are masochists enough to actually want to do it. Last edited by sabotai : 02-23-2012 at 08:11 PM. |

Say, I'd say those first two points should keep you away from weddings!
What you mentioned happened to a friend of mine that did weddings. One of her memory cards refused to load after a wedding, and suddenly she had no access to 300 wedding pictures she just took. I would have died. If I had my way, I'd do exactly that. I love natural shots or shots of old things . I love shooting barns and old signs around here, and I can't wait until I'm in England and really get some good shots of villages and castles. |

So just as it is starting to become apparent that my current company may not survive 2012 in any recognizable form, my last company happens to call me. My old boss resigned and they want me to interview for his spot, they haven't even posted the job.
Feeling pretty good, likely not much of a financial difference, but should be a giant leap in my career that will open new doors. Finger crossed, I was getting ready to make a lateral move somewhere new and it looks like I may not have to. Perfect timing. Last edited by jeff061 : 02-24-2012 at 08:11 PM. |

I had a record album when I was little. I remember the cover being light bluish and a sort of montage of images. The record itself was sort of sexual in nature as I remember. It was spoken word and some background music, beats, but more electronica even though it couldn't have been any later than 1983. There were moans I think. It might have been super heroish in nature. Was there talk of a high rise building? This thing haunts me as I know there is zero chance of me ever finding it.

I think one of my favorite meals is becoming a chicken in 40 cloves. Serve the chicken over a bed of rice sprinkled with pepper. Serve the garlic smeared over a slice of freshly baked homemade sourdough bread, and enjoy.
