Same here, although we have the kind of dogs that will go nuts if they sense someone jogging in the opposite direction a mile away. Man I fucking hate dogs.

I guess what I'm really asking for is a global "I would like things to be returned to warehouse for me to pick up rather than dumped on my front porch for all to see" setting. And yeah like Jon says, I suspect it's the seller specifying to dump on first attempt because it saves them $$$.

As for whether it always was like this, I used to get those slips on my front door most of the time and I could call to arrange delivery or pick up. Now I haven't seen one of those in a couple years. So at least from my perspective things have changed.

I'm at work. Someone left a bag of cookies in the kitchen. I tried some. Nice & tasty! 1/2 hour later, it was "uh-oh..." and an urgent walk to the throne room. The bag is still there. They were tasty...

Not sure why this bothers me but it does-

There should be some sort of modifier words for terms like brother-in-law and sister-in-law

For example, if I reference my sister-in-law at work, people question if I have a brother. No, but my wife's brother is married.

So is she my sister-in-law-in-law?

Heh. I have the same problem, especially since I'm an only child, and my wife has 5 siblings. I never know what to term her siblings' spouses.

I'm not married. I don't know what to call my sister's in-laws. People say that they are my brothers-in law, but that feels odd... their father is not my father in law.

Weirdest thing ever was seeing my sister's father-in-law, who had been a widower for all of a month, flirting with my aunt that we took to his place for Christmas dinner.

I started the topic...and even I'm confused. Gonna need a flere diagram on this one.

It's a pain too when I say brother-in-law. Is it my older sister's husband? Or my wife's brother? And referring to them as "my wife's brother" or "my sister's husband" seems awkward too.

I am glad I'm not the only one irked by this.

I am bothered by that as well, but even simpler. My aunt was once married, so the guy was my uncle. But then they got divorced. It felt weird to still refer to him as my uncle (not in the present, but if describing him then) because if I say uncle, you immediately think of someone's mom's or dad's brother. But really, he was just an uncle-in-law. So what do I call him now, my ex-uncle? This has confused and perplexed me for years.

Are in-laws that are connected thru you in-laws to each other?

Example: Your sister is married. His brother is technically your "Brother-in-law." If you are married, your wife's brother is also technically your "Brother-in-law." Are these two men also to be called "brother-in-law" to each other? When does it end? If your "brother-in-law" is married & his wife has a sister that is married, is her husband's brother's husband's (in NYC) sister the sister-in-law to whatever other combination you can come up with?

They should use first, second, third, etc. designation for sibling-in-laws that they do cousins.

Are there third cousins?

Example: My son, Sam, has a kid in his preschool class, Tyler.

My cousin (his mom is my dad's sister) is Tyler's dad.

So Me to Tyler: 2nd cousins
Tyler's dad to Sam: 2nd cousins

Sam to Tyler: 3rd cousins? Or is this the old "once removed", because I never understood that.

This requirements in an ad for a job a recruiter forwarded, one line made me honestly LOL

Quote:
• Bachelors degree in accounting
• 2-3 plus years experience
• Experience with Net Suite a plus, but not required.
• Excellent communication skills (particularly listening and speaking)
Maniacal attention to detail
• Organization
• Strong Knowledge of General Accounting
• Demonstrated history of keen judgment and exemplary ethics and integrity
• Willing/excited to work in a fast-paced, but sometimes intense, rapidly expanding company
• Strong computer literacy and/or the comfort, ability and desire to advance technically
• Demonstrated ability to work with confidential information and to maintain strict confidentiality
• Willingness to expand range of responsibilities as needed based on the evolution of the company and the role

Would you really want to hire anyone who considers themself "maniacal" in any aspect of their life?

Sam to Tyler: 2nd Cousins
You to Tyler and Tyler's Dad to Sam: 1st Cousins, once removed.

For each generation removed from the original family relationship (your cousin's mom and your dad), you add 1 to the cousin nomenclature. If you are not in the same generation, you are once removed per generation gap.

Or, to simplify in a big family, they are all just cousins.

D&D 3.5 books are all the rage now. So if you have some and don't want them anymore, now is the time to put them on ebay. Mainly because no one likes 4.0 (except for the people who work there because they HAVE to)

Everyone wants to play 3.5 or pathfinder.

yes but this is different. 4.0 did not just come out. 4.0 has BEEN out for years. At that same time people gave up on 2.0 and played 3.0 once it was established and sold their old stuff (which ended up being worth next to nothing). But Now things are reverting back as people are realizing they liked 3.0/3.5 better. And Pathfinder (by Paizo) is kind of "3.75". Took 3.5 and went from there and it seems more popular than 4.0. I've heard rumors of a "5.0" in production actually.

Anyway was just saying that they are worth a lot now. Usually books like this go down in value by now.

3.0 is still selling. Especially if you bundle all the core books together. Not as much as 3.5. Take a look at what's been selling. You'll get something out of it. A trip to the movies at least.

I'd rather play 2.0 any day of teh week. Its supposed to be a ROLE PLAYING game, not a "we have a rule for every time a curmudgeon farts" game.

I hate the way they're overdone EVERY facet of the game. There is nothing to "role play" now its just like those old make a choice books. You choose an action and roll dice. Nothing creative about it anymore.

With the advances in mobile technology and user interfaces, I'm amazed medical devices are so far behind the curve. For example, I have a TENS unit and it looks like a really old pocket AM/FM radio. Sure, it works, but it's bulky and easy to get messed up (such as pulling the wires when moving). My sister's husband has an insulin pump, same deal. It's like it's from the 80's or something.

Kinda annoying.

I've seen some amazingly modern personal medical devices but I think maybe FDA approval is so hard these things get stuck.

Thanks. We have a contract with her to rent our place out, so I don't think we can fire her on that side. And the worst is over there -- it took a while for her to actually get the place listed, and we had to have several long conversations about it all. But it's listed now at least, and she'll show it to other people now. On the other side, though, looking at places with her is horrendous. She talks over us when we're trying to figure things out, then talks our ear off making the trips to see places take twice as long as they should. Thanks for the recommendation CW (we're looking in Park Ridge/Des Plaines area), but I think we'll probably just power through.

Tough situation.

My job I am at, my girlfriend referred me to. Our company is a Vendor to hers. I am not allowed to own the account due to the relationship.

She works for one of the large banks in the area and works closely with our company. I know the ins and outs of the relationship with the bank and our company...today was a blindside though as my boss was just hammered by the CIO of the bank in a conference call.

We are both trying to figure out how to handle our bosses now. It's an awkward situation........not good.

Did you know about something coming down the pipes beforehand and could have saved your boss the embarrassment? That's a tricky part. Unless telling your boss would cause your wife problems, I would think you should tell him/her.
