Well outside of Florida State the wins are very unimpressive.

Agreed. Winning the Rose Bowl against a top ten team is pretty trivial.

Kind of sucks I'm here in Tacoma for the biggest win in WVU history and don't have anyone to really celebrate it with.

Glad to see Coach Stewart get the win and I'm happy for the players after the whole RR fiasco.

WVU becomes the first team this bowl season to win a game with an interim coach.

I can't help but wonder how on earth WVU can't hire Stewart after this.

They're idiots if they don't keep Stewart on as head coach. That was an impressive job by him and his staff.

It was interesting to watch an officiating crew that actually called at least a third of OU's holding violations.

What does that have to do with anything? in 2002 they had a hell of a team, ranked #7 with Jason Gesser at QB and Mike "Roll Tide" Price coaching. OU throttled them in the Rose Bowl, 34-14.

I am just saying outside of Florida State which was for the national championship you guys really don't have any "sexy" wins. You guys beat WSU no doubt but which sounds better a win over Ohio State, LSU, USC or a win against WSU?(Note to WSU's fans no disrespect just trying to illustrate a point)

Word all day is that an agreement had/has been made with a HC, but that they didn't want to distract from the Fiesta Bowl. I honestly have no idea who it is, if they have hired someone.

What makes this especially sweet for Coach Stewart is he was offered a job on RR's staff at Michigan and turned it down with no guarantees that the new coach would retain him.

Pretty safe to say he'll have a job now, though.

West Virginia gets mucho respect from me with their performance tonight. I was throughly impressed by the defensive effort. Yes, they were #4 in the country defensively but I did not expect them to be able to contain the Sooners offense. Of course the offense did what they usually do. I do not know much about WVU's football history, but I think this should rank high on the list of victories Mountaineer fans are the most proud of.

Oregon was in the top ten in the Holiday Bowl too.

Anyway, bad loss all around. Not what I expected at all. White's running game wasn't the problem, it was his scrambling which hurt us. Then just the team speed. My dad commented it was the first time he had ever heard that the other team's speed was too much for the Sooners. The only good thing was Cheney who probably has never had a game without a dropped pass in his career.

Same reason GT didn't hire Mac McWhorter in 2001 after beating a top ten Stanford team in a bowl?

Incidentally, Jon, did you read any of Paul Johnson's quotes in the AJC today? Based on the following, I've got to figure he's right up your alley:

Quote:
“It’s usually been my take that I’ll let guys start where they want to,” Johnson said. “Then we’ll look at them, and I may say, ‘You have a better chance to play (on a regular basis) over here.’ “

Johnson flashed a quick smile, before adding, “Now if they’d rather be third string somewhere else, then more power to them. You know?”

The Jackets will know sooner than later that the plain-speaking North Carolina native who managed a 107-39 record as a head coach at Navy and Georgia Southern already has an outline of what he wishes to accomplish.

“We’ll get them together (next week), and I’ll start going over my way of doing things,” Johnson said, with his way of suggesting the following to Tech players about that upcoming meeting and those afterward: Don’t show up if you (ahem) prefer not to hear the truth.

Well, congratulations to West Virginia, clearly the better team tonight.

And now, it's on to the Orange Bowl, and he's hungry! Watch out, Obie!

I think teh Sugar Bowl win two years ago was teh biggest ever in WVU history - it cemented our place in the top teams and gave the Big East their respect back.

So far so good in the BCS bowls. Haven't been rooting for anybody specific (except Virginia Tech), but I have been rooting for blowouts in all of 'em, just to really embarrass the BCS selection committee. Shit matchups? Good!

As far as putting WVU on the map, so to speak, and getting people to realize that the Big East is still a legit BCS conference that win was huge.

The importance of this game, though, can't be understated. With a lot of recruits and a few donors backing away from the program after RR left this may have been the most important game in the program's history.

Yes, OU has won more Big 12 titles than Texas, but what have they done with them? During the Brown/Stoops era, both teams have won 2 BCS games and a BCS title apiece.

Allowed a total of 146 points in their last three BCS bowl games, all losses?

48.7 ppg allowed in three straight losses is almost as amazing as Texas' 37.5 ppg allowed in two straight BCS game wins.

That's a ton of points given up by the Big 12's two best programs in the league's last 5 BCS appearances.

No question, they have the same number of BCS wins and national championships.

However, Stoops has only been a head coach for nine years and he already has five conference championships. In Mack's 24 years as a head coach, he has one conference championship.

Mack does have a better bowl record than Stoops at 7-3, but two of those wins came against unranked teams and one was against the #25 ranked team. He lost to #24 Arkansas. It's a bit easier to get a bowl win when you're playing a team like 6-6 Iowa in the Alamo Bowl as opposed to a top ten team in a BCS bowl.

Having said that, I think that Mack Brown is one of the best coaches in the country, and I'm sure that most Longhorn fans wouldn't trade him for anyone, just like most Sooner fans wouldn't trade Stoops.

FWIW, Garrison said after the game that although the search isn't over yet, its very close to being complete.

What I've heard is they tightened up the leaks and opened the search up from the 3 names we initially heard (Doc, Butch Jones, and Terry Bowden) and if some things line up there could be a suprise hire but the fallback candidates right now are probably Jones and Bowden (with Bowden still a longshot). I haven't heard anything specific lately, though.

Yet, you have Ohio State beating them. Seems like you should have put them on the list if you are predicting them to win. In any case, I put as much stock in your Ohio State prediction as I did your Hawaii one.

For a team that had a disappointing end to the season and then lost their head coach, West Virginia was incredibly impressive. I was expecting Oklahoma to blow them out. Oklahoma was playing great at the end of the season and with the size of their O-line I didn't think WVU had a chance of stopping the running game. Even though Oklahoma's QB was young, I thought (and still think) that he's going to be a real stud. I felt WVU offensively had enough talent to stay with anyone but I haven't been impressed by their defense this season (although improved over last year). I really expected to see WVU come in depressed and not be competitive at all. I'm not sure if the goofy guy acting as head coach had anything to do with it or if it was more behind the scenes, but they were definitely motivated.

It's going to be interesting to me to see who becomes the next HC at WVU. They are team built on speed and in my eyes built around a specific system. I would think a new head coach will change things up a little to fit into their own style which could make them take a step back next year. Will be interesting to see what happens.

Man, it was incredibly disappointing to see Oklahoma not do well last night. I'm not sure what the deal was, but they just had Mizzou's number this year. Outside of those two games, we beat everyone we faced. Hopefully Mizzou and OU can win their divisions again next year and face off in the B12 championship again (with a different end result of course. ).

I noticed you didn't mention my West Virginia prediction. BTW that I called that game straight up with no points. It paid a 300 to 100 bucks bet.

So, I'm still up. I lost a 100 on Hawaii. I won 300 on WV. So that puts me up 200.

Anyway,

VT will cover tonight and OSU will win straight up you don't need the 4 and 1/2.

Ohio State is ranked number 1, that is why I didn't put them on the list.

If that is the case, you need to work on your basic counting abilities.

confused?

Anyway, when Ohio State wins outright I'll smile and have more money in my pocket. Maybe, I'll have enough to get tutored in basic counting.

Are you predicting LSU to win?

Who did you pick to win last nights game?

Who are you predicting to win tonight?

No, but you are or you are changing things up at the last second to cover yourself. In your previous post, you said that LSU was 7th best and then listed 6 teams that were better than LSU. Now, you are saying Ohio State is also better. Basic math indicates that LSU would be 8th best in your hierarchy then
