Game MVP: MEM 9 Trevor Cleveland in a losing effort

Kitty hawk had a 200 yard rushing day with Finley gaining 141 of them. Harden gets all the love in the moneyzone with 3 TDs.

Francis threw for 300+ yards, but two of the passes were to the guys in the colored jerseys.

Song ended the debate about the #2 WR by showing that he is the #1 and #2 WR. (155 Yards)

The D was good across the board and registered 7 sacks.

G Johnson led the line with 5 KRBs.

All of this, and we look a little less beat up.

I will post the files shortly so that can head into the night ready for a showdown with Manhattan. The action favors us.

How many of their passes did we block at the line? Is their QB 4'11"?

Great game. Domination on both sides of the ball.

Finley with the death blow...interesting to see the offense switch from a string of runs to a string of passes...Upshaw had a couple of sacks, yes? Good game for the rook.

Manhattan looks like they are not too well off at QB at the moment.

This win puts us 7th on the playoff game rushing list, three yards shy of our 4th place best.

FWIW, QB Hutchens is still out and will be available cheap if he has anything left to offer.

Fritz, I though releasing the game log quarter by quarter was fun... added to my enjoyment. For a big game, either that or a stage-by-stage narrative of some sort seems worthwhile to me.

I concur that it certainly added to the excitement. I was just waiting for a BoSox collapse. I felt a lump in my throat with the punt from our endzone, and the interception at the beginning of the 4th QTR. I breathed a sigh of relief when Finley broke the long one.

WHEW!

I tried to add color comments, but after a few I knew I could not do that and work as well.

last season I ran the game through a text to voice translator with added color comments to make an mp3, but the whole thing was too long and had no emotion.

Great dynasty, guys. I've enjoyed following along with the whole process.

Have you guys thought about doing the same with a college team, or do you think there's more of a challenge to do this with the NFL?

Thanks.

There were thoughts of having a combined GT with FOF4 and TCY; however, the TCY end of things fell through because there were not enough people interested and there was not a way to connect the two groupthinks to make them meaningful. It would have ended up with the TCY folks just sending draft files to FOF.

I think that gt works better with FOF because of the discrete offseason. It would be harder to make recuiting decisions in TCY because you would have to trade the file between games. I think that a system could be worked out to minimize inconvenience, but I think that it would be less fun, too.

If, however, you were thinking of TCY groupthink, I am sure that there are people here who would love to join you.

That's OK. We have the whole weekend to sim.

How do we want to work gameplanning. I can do the D after Buzzbee posts the scouting report. Does Fritz want to weigh in this weekend before I sim? Does anyone else?

Should we wait for Monday to sim the SB?

I, as always, am cool with whatever.

Glad you've enjoyed it. Feel free to pipe up and give your thoughts, too -- we're a pretty free-flowing operation.

As for a college team - I had originally hoped that we might end up with a dual-dynasty here, with one group doing a college team in TCY and another doing the pro team in FOF4. Things got started on the TCY side, and there were conversations about how we might "connect" the two teams - but alas, it seemed that the TCY side never really got off the ground, and died of its own weight. So, while we were definitely open to the possibility, I think those of us playing FOF4 have basically decided to go on without the other side, at least for now.

After experiencing our exciting win over Memphis, I am looking forward to the Super Bowl. However, in the past we seem to lose steam on the weekends. I'd like for us to get through the superbowl this weekend if it works for everyone. That way we can start fresh on monday with a new season.

That being said, it was pretty cool with everyone online watching the results of our last big game. I'm not opposed to waiting for a "Super Bowl Party" so that everyone can be online for the big game.

As the Group thinketh, so goeth the Buzzbee.

Well, I'll probably be online tonight (if I don't get too tired and fall asleep on the couch) and would like to advance my dynasty, and I should be on tomorrow night too (wife working, not that her being home usually hampers on-line activity, as she usually is happy to go upstairs and relax after dealing with the kids all day). Monday might be spotty as I'll be at home because of a seminar my wife is going to.

SUPER SCOUTING REPORT: Manhattan Steamrollers

Allright...here we go boyz!!

Record: 13-5
Winning Pct.: .722

COMMENTS: Look for a good ole fashioned game of smashmouth football. Two of the premier rushing teams in the league match up in what could be a very low scoring affair. Expect 4 yards and a cloud of dust, and only when the dust settles will we know who came out on top.

Manhattan Steamrollers Team Rank

Rushes 489 4 (T)
Rushing Yards 1850 5
Yards Per Carry 3.78 10
Pass Attempts 566 16
Completions 341 15
Passing Yards 3596 19
Yards Per Attempt 6.35 23
3rd Down Conversions 38.6 15
Points Per Game 20.8 14
Turnovers 30 22
Turnover Margin 0 16 (T)

Opponents
Rushes 390 2
Rushing Yards 1554 12
Yards Per Carry 3.98 27
Pass Attempts 553 13
Completions 282 1
Passing Yards 3076 1
Yards Per Attempt 5.56 1
3rd Down Conversions 29.1 1
Points Per Game 16.5 1
Turnovers 30 13 (T)

Offense
As you can see from the numbers above, Manhattan likes to run, and they are pretty good at it. This for them is a good thing, because they don't have much talent at QB. 16 game regular season starter Kent Bishop is out with a shredded knee. He is replaced by Kendall Green. We don't know much about Green because he rode the pine all season. He appears to be pretty good at mixing up the short and long passes but seems to have trouble with the accuracy and timing of his throws.

When it comes to the running game, you'll hear the Manhattan faithful cheering that they wany Mo'. Moe Williams that is. He's the workhorse in the backfield. He isn't a finesse runner. He is a Steamroller and would just as soon knock your helmet off as try to avoid you, and with his breakaway speed once he breaks it into the open, he's in for 6. On 369 attempts he has 1435 yards (3.8 YPC) and 3 touchdowns. Interestingly, he has more receiving touchdowns (6) than rushing. Since we're on the subject, he has managed 76 catches on 112 balls for 521 yards. His backup, Wesley Woodard doesn't see the field much, but when he does he gains yards, 4.6 per carry on 57 carries.

With starting FL Andy Riley questionable, look for the Steamrollers to go to their ace SE Alex Wilkerson. He ONLY has 95 catches on 155 attempts for 1219 yards and 6 TD's. Hopefully his elbow bursitis will affect his performance. He is listed as probable. With the injury to Riley, the backup SE will probably see some more action than usual. He is decent, with a knack for making the big play.

The offensive line is pretty balanced, with LT and RG looking like the soft spots. There are no studs on this line, but they are all above average run and pass blockers. They should open some holes for Moe, and give the QB some time to throw.

Defense
It should be pretty obvious from the stats above that they have one heckuva stingy pass defense. Kevin Giles at Left Corner, and Terry Montez at Right Corner give them a VERY good one two puch on the corners. The only real weakness they have is that Montez isn't great against the run, and tends to tire near the end of the game. As good as they are though, they are not the best in the secondary. That title would go to SS Norm Peters with 71 tackles 34 assists and 4 picks....if it weren't for FS Joey Zimmerman. He's managed 79 tackles, 23 assists, 5 INT's, 19 passes defensed, oh...and one sack. But wait, there's more. Zimmerman doens't even lead the team in tackles. That distinction goes to stud MLB Bryan Elmore (86 tackles, 38 assists, 3 sacks, and 1 INT returned for a TD). Oh, and I haven't mentioned LDE Jay Cedeno. His ratings: Run Def = 75, Pass Rush Tech = 70, Rush Str = 70, Diagnosis = 95, Punish Hitter = "only" 56. He only has 34 tackles, but that's only because the running backs run the other way in fear when they see him coming. Oh, and he has 8 sacks.

I think you get the picture. They are LOADED on defense. The softest spots are the interior D Line and WLB, but these aren't exactly soft.

Buzzbee... FYI, you might find using the "code" tags (in hard brackets) rather than the "pre" tags makes your formatted text easier to work with. VB seems to add that extra line of text with the use of the "pre" tags - like you see above.

Try {code} and {/code} (and replace with "[" and "]")

As a former coach of WR Andy Riley (when he played for Lake Erie), I can offer insight that he is a tough SOB - do not discount him during his current injury. Good player.

Finally, a team that does not pass all the time. I have been thinking, and I think that I will change our run expectations back to normal (I had them shifted to pass), but keep the rest of our D the same. We are pretty good against the run, so I don't see a need to shift too much.

Any thoughts or suggestions are, of course, appreciated.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Milton Bradley

New Orleans is a city rich in tradition and steeped in mystery. From the Voodoo shops in the French Quarter to the supposedly haunted cemetaries that draw tourists like flies, there is a sense of mystique and magic that surrounds the city. Perhaps there IS withcraft and wizardry in New Orleans, and perhaps it has taken hold of the Kitty Hawk Flyers.

Throughout the season Coach Dixon Rivers has been one of the most accesible, most open, and most honest coaches in the game. The Flyers have open practices and welcome the media. Prior to a game against conference rival Bermuda, coach Rivers exclaimed "if they don't know what we're gonna do by now, they deserve to lose." Even the players have welcome media and fan alike, which has led to a turnaround in fan support for the program.

Not in New Orleans. Not the week before the Super Bowl. The Crescent City's black magic has cast it's spell on Rivers and the Flyers. Practices have been closed the entire week, and press conferences have been limited to 15 minutes. Even player interviews have been capped at 2 minutes. The coaches and coordinators have been undeniably mysterious.

The change has rumors flying. One source reported that the team was travelling to Violet, Louisiana, a small town about 45 minutes downriver from New Orleans. The reason, a voodoo ritual which includes consuming large quantities of raw oysters and beer which supposedly increases virility, strength, and courage. However, when questioned about the rumor Defensive Coordinator Al Moonlight was uncharacteristically coy and said that he could neither confirm nor deny the rumor.

Another rumor had the team participating in an alligator festival at Kliebert's (pronounced KLEE-BARES) Alligator Farm. Apparently the team was to participate in alligator races, feed 13 foot alligators live chickens, and partake of a specially prepared alligator sauce piquant. No voodoo here. Just an excercise to take the mind off the pressures associated with facing two straight Super Bowl losses. However, neither rumor has been substantiated.

While the existence of magic or voodoo is doubted by some, the actions of the Kitty Hawk Flyers during Super Bowl week lend creedence to those who practice the dark art. Or could it just be that it's the biggest game of the year?

My local sports talk show is reporting concerns over the health of Francis at QB. I think they're trying to keep the decision on the QB hush-hush to throw off the opposition.

Either way, go Flyers!
