Dortmund-Arsenal should be fun
Also, despite the seeming similarities, it´s also a contrast in styles a little bit. Marc described Arsenal very well and while Dortmund also obviously uses some of those concepts, they also operate with long balls a lot since Lewandowski might be the best "ball keeping and passing" striker around right now, also go for the "home run" pass into traffic more often since they know they can allways get the ball back quickly with their great pressure defense. A lot of chances happen after an interception by the oponent where Dortmund immediately gets on the ball again with the "2nd wave". Dortmund with a 6-2 win today against Hamburg and it was all that one sided, evidenced by 32-4 shots. And boy, a couple were oh so beautiful Now 5 wins from 5 games in league play and 15-4 goals. And that´s despite some clear hickups yet with integrating 2 new offensive players in Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang. Still, very nice work replacing Götze (and Kagawa) They are very good anyway, but as an oponent you should definitely not concede first because the speed of the offensive midfielders is mind boggling. That combined with the pressure defense and also the passing ability of guys like Hummels, Sahin and Mkhitaryan is quite promising. Suffice to say, theese last few years have been good times to be a Dortmund Fan.

World Soccer Talk (used to be EPLTalk) and ProSoccerTalk (NBC Sports SOccer site) have the weekly breakdown, most weeks there's one game on NBC I think

Is there really that much interest now for a weekly international Premier League game on NBC?

I really hope so - although ideally the US could do with more English Championship soccer being televised (there are still some days of the week without any soccer on television; that's a scandalous situation surely? ) |

Walcott was a joke, but that's Theo. You get good Theo and bad Theo. Today was Frankenstein Theo. The set pieces have been a joke for years and continue to be so. The injuries are also a joke. Cazorla down for three weeks now. Giroud get hurt at the end of the game and his knee is a question. Ozil comes into town and we get excited thinking about the lineup and we can't even get a game with it. It's so depressing. As for Ozil, everyone who said Arsenal were loaded with AMC's simply haven't watched Arsenal. There hasn't been a creator like that since Cesc. He's just pure quality. |

Did anyone else catch/follow Stoke-Man City in the morning slate? I came away so frustrated with how many chances Stoke wasted--especially N'Zonzi pulling up with the ball on two breakaway chances.

The talking heads on US commentary appear desperate for something to discuss imho ... it was a fair challenge - his studs weren't showing (boots facing down) ... just his boots slid over the area, sliding tackles are allowed (for now at least ). He got the ball fair and square and I'm afraid there is always some risk inherant in a physical sport - but it wasn't a foul, good decision from the referee. I'm going to go on the record and say that (at the moment) I don't like Neymar on Barca. He's young, he's new there, it'll doubtless get better, but right now I don't think he's any sort of improvement.
Barca are at their best when they're one-touch passing the ball around and probing and feinting and moving off the ball, and when Neymar gets the ball in the box he kills their movement, everybody stands and watches him, and he seems to "kill" movement more than any of the other guys. I know it's early in his tenure there, he'll adapt, the team will adapt, but it's nowhere near a seamless fit, that's all I'm saying. |

Ozil is amazing, considering he was ill and hasn't had a proper training session with his team.
His vision, movement and passing are top-notch and he's going to be fantastic to watch this year. |

You were right. I just needed something to kvetch about other than how turgid West Ham's style of play has become under Allardyce. Granted we're a bit short of quality at forward... Maiga is just plain awful, Carroll is crocked, etc etc. Jarvis' crossing has been dreadful this year, there's no invention in midfield and James Collins is just terrible with those long ball free kicks from inside the half. Thank the maker for Jussi. On another note, really looking forward to Liverpool/Swansea here.

Wooow! Shelvey gets the dream goal against his former club 90 seconds in and 90 seconds later his poor back pass gives Sturridge an easy equalizer.
Incredible start at the Liberty Stadium

Hey, if I just wanted to play FM-style footie, but I just don't have enough time to play on the computer anymore (I would be better off just playing on the go on my phone), is it totally worth it to do FM's phone app game? Or is it so stripped of features as to not be worth it except for casual users.
I used to play FM extensively when I had more time.

This is a game these fuckwads should be winning 3-1.
Zizou and ADP would be ashamed of them. I hope Nedved and Conte chop up Giovinco and eat him for dinner on the trip home. I have high standards!!! You're not a longshot for winning the CL with a performance like this you tools. Last edited by DaddyTorgo : 09-17-2013 at 03:34 PM. |

I've tightened up a few aspect of FMH this year - the main thing which made it 'easy' for experienced players imho was being too able to poach players from other clubs on bosmans, this is tightened a lot this year (you'll find clubs bidding against you more proactively in general as well now). |

Interesting morning in the EPL.
Arsenal get a 3-1 win. They win with a ref they never seem to win with. (I think their record before today was something like 1 win in 14 or 15 games with Dean) 3 goals on set pieces, one of them very fortunate, but a win is a win is a win and the Gunners will be at the top of the table when games end today. Arsenal haven't finished above 9th in goals from set pieces in the last few years. Ozil will make a massive difference there I think. Hope nothing serious is wrong with Theo. Then the destruction of United. Van Persie out, but as an Arsenal fan: 1) I really don't want to hear the injury excuse 2) He spent plenty of time on our sidelines, the fact he became an iron man for United last year still pisses me off. 3) Not many squads could throw out the quality strikers ManU can when theirs go down. If Giroud goes down, I get Bendter to cheer for, so piss off. Tottenham win with a late goal to beat Cardiff. Spurs and Gunners top the table with 12. Both could be out of the top four with losses next week. Next weeks biggest games: Spurs host Chelsea Arsenal away at the surging Swans ManU likely going to maul West Brom at home. |

I said from the start Altidore was making a mistake going to that Sunderland club in a World Cup year.
Di Matteo is currently the favorite to replace Di Canio.

No, I didn't. But I didn't think the Villa game was the disaster everyone made it out to be. Not signing players? Yeah, that sucked, but I thought people were jumping the gun in a big way to say that Arsenal were clearly toast after that game.
We are now looking at a team who has 18 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss in its last 21 matches. Granted, they haven't played a ton against the top teams and as always, that will tell the tale. But this is a damned good team and always was, even directly after the Villa game. It's good to see that Arsenal are the team out of crisis mode and other teams are in it for once. Just hope they continue to play well until the end of the month. Then it's Chelsea in the cup, Pool in the league, Dortmund away in CL and ManU away in the league. If they look good in those four, I'll be a believer that they could be on the way. |
