ML-I agree with you analysis of the refs. There is just no way that everything is going to be called.
Fidatelo-removing the redline, bigger ice, and tagup offsides are not that radical, to throw it in with 4 on 4 is ridiculous. I'm not saying make the net bigger, I'm advocating things that are already in place in major places, NCAA and International hockey. Sach-Get ahold of Chief Rum, he might be able to help you out with that.

Better yet, we do uniform numbers. Someone puts out a number, then the next guy names someone who wore that number, and then gets to name the next number.

I thought I would post to move this thread up to #667. Not normally a religious man, but I can be superstitious, and I don't see the need to associate evil with hockey for so long--that's for the NBA

Cards4ever - Thanks very much for those PDFs.
Horton's stock has dropped. Anyone that follows the OHL know why? Does anyone know when Marc-Andre Fleury is projected to go? The Flames have the 9th pick and we have no goaltending depth... (The trading of Giguere may go down as the worst trade in Flames history.) sachmo71 - The Kings are underrated IMO. They have good men up top. Dave Taylor has made some great trades getting rid of Blake and Schneider for substantial quality back. Andy Murray is a fine coach but this year was a wash with the amount of injuries they had. I saw a TV report on Deadmarsh and it was downright scary how bad he looked... The uniform numbers game sounds interesting... |

I heard that they traded JSG because the Wild were going to take him in the expansion draft and wanted to get something for him.
Ok, we will try the uniform number game, but I think we will do all sports to keep everyone interested, I'll set it up on the main board.

The article would have meant a lot more if he'd written before the Stars were kicked out of the playoffs. Although he makes a lot of good points, it just sounds like sour grapes now.

Most of it is sour grapes. But, not unexpected either. Let's switch it around, lets say the Stars were playing like Anaheim or Minnesota, and were in the next round, then he'd probably be on the other side saying Defense is underrated, blah blah blah.
TV ratings are down for alot of other sports too, not just hockey. What hockey needs to do is take care of itself and not worry about the ratings.

I think hockey is always going to worry about it's ratings. They are always trying to trick it up and they go for the short term fix. If they sat down and REALLY took the time to address the shortcomings of the game, they might be able to increase the popularity. The exposure will come with a better product.

It does come across that way, which is surprising. He's usually a fair guy, and has no problem pointing out when the Stars play is flawed. |

How come no one has addressed my Sumo-Goalies thoughts? I was serious with that post, I honestly think it would be worth a try in a farm system somewhere. At worst it would be a decent publicity stunt (can you say Manon Rheaume?).

The difference this year maybe that the Stars were expected to go alot further, but when they crapped out he was a little pissed. I think that Turco not having experience in the playoffs is what hurt Dallas more than the other junk that he wrote about, well, that JSG is on a huge roll right now.

That brings up an interesting question: Is a goalie actually required to wear skates? I'm thinking if he wore broomball shoes or maybe just some protective booties he might be even more effective. The way I see it, a sumo in full equipment would take up almost the entire net. All he would then need to do is be able to push from post to post, preferably in the butterfly position the entire game. Shooters would have a few inches of space at the top corners but that's about it.

The only leaf goalies I can remember are Bunny Larocque and Mark LaForest that match those initials. I don't recall either of them playing for the rangers though. I'm sure Bunny didn't, as he went from the Habs to Leafs to Flyers, and St. louis I think. (he was one of my favorites growing up ), so I'll have to say Mark LaForest... |

Godynyuk and LoForest are correct. LaForest was dealt to the Rangers in the first Tie Domi deal, although I can't honestly say whether he ever played for them.

Oh, and I agree about the whininess of the Dallas article. Defintely sour grapes. 2-1 for the Devs.

As a guess I'll say former North Star Brad Maxwell. I think he played a year for the leafs, and maybe the blues...not sure. Last edited by klayman : 05-16-2003 at 01:08 PM. |

Strange. I thought B.M. would be the easiest of the enforcers.
You're still missing one of the two K.M.'s from the Leafs. And bbor, Garpenlov's crossbar was game six, not game seven. |
