Yeah, he was supposed to be a top 5 pick according to what I've read.

Unless they can't find a trade partner, the Pats should move down. We still got Houston, Harris, and Woodley still on the board.

Shaun Rogers and Haloti Ngata were both considered lazy and they turned out pretty well. Is Branch really that bad? I thought he would have went in the early 20s. I think he's worth a second round pick for sure.

49ers take Staley. Good pick for them.

The 49ers are doing a nice job building from the draft.

Wow!

Pats only got a 4th rounder this year . . .

And a 1st rounder next year for Staley pick.

I think it's a good deal, but now with only a 3rd rounder as the next pick, they will not be getting any top LB. Of course, I could easily see the Pats coming into the second round at some point.

Patriots get richer, other teams get poorer. Funny how that works. The Niners are much improved, but could be picking at 6 or 7 next year just as easily as in the mid 20s. Good move for the Pats if they didn't really like anyone left on the board, no reason to make a pick if you aren't enamored and don't have to.

I think this last trade was a huge mistake. Giving up next years 1st and a 4th for the 28th pick in this years draft is a mistake.

Your Steelers went from Superbowl champs to drafting 15th this year. If the 49ers have the same luck as the Steelers did this year they just gave up next years #1 overall draft pick and a 4th round pick for Staley!

Slightly Bobby Beathard-esque move there by San Fran.

That gives them two first round picks again next year. Great trade for the Pats. That will give them flexibility, plus the 49ers pick may be early in the first.

Although, more likely, it's going to be 15-ish. 8-8 teams were drafting around 20 this year, and Staley was #20 value.

The 49ers should improve, but if they don't, you are right, that would be a bad trade for the short term. However, if Staley becomes a franchise LT, then the trade is worth it.

I wonder if the 49ers missed watching Jerry Jones aquire a 1st round pick for only a 2nd, a 3rd, and a 5th?

It's the whole future value thing. They want their 2nd this year enough they're willing to give up the 1st next year...perversely doing so devalues the #1 next year.

Since all the decent safeties are gone, I hope the Falcons are able to get one of the USC wideouts with one of their second round picks....

So, this is my guess: After much deliberating in the War Room, Belicheck picked up the phone and said: "We're taking the guy from Miami." Bill was thinking the guy on the other would realize that meant the tight end, since this is the 1st round. But the guy misunderstood.

Greg Olsen at 1(31) isn't too bad of a value.

I am shocked that three Hurricanes from last year's team have gone in the first round.

Nice to see a slot receiver for the Colts. We have Marvin and Wayne, but after that its John Standeford if either of the two get injured.

Someone needs to take Mike Shanahan down memory lane.

Jarvis Moss = Maurice Clarett

Did the Broncos learn nothing from drafting Clarett too early a couple of years ago? Why in the world did they move up to get Moss?

The Lions move back 10 spots in the 2nd to pick up an extra 3rd? Given all the holes they need to fill, I'll take it.

Denver made a mistake and traded up for someone who they likely could have traded down to get, but this isn't remotely like the Clarett situation.
I think Drafting Clarett in the 3rd was was to early for a player that many predicted would not even be drafted that year.

Sorry, but Moss, like Clarett, does not have enough college experience to warrant this early of a pick.

Shocked my beloved Cards made a bold move to trade up to get DT Branch. I had hoped it might be the LB from Penn State who went with the next pick. Not sure I like the Branch pick, but at least the Cards are attempting to make some moves.

Sheesh. Too early for what should be a backup QB for the next 5 years. Feeley and Holcombe would have been fine until McNabb is back from his injury.

As a Browns fan, that was the most exciting first round I've ever experienced and I get to enjoy it for a few years until they inevitably bust. Phil Savage is God!

No idea which one it was, it was one that was in the communal magazine pile at town hall.
