Don't ruin it for me! Actually, cartman (if you don't mind), I'll just go ahead and take Bowling Green. When I'm winning championships down the road, I don't want some ninny to say that I started with a national powerhouse. |

LOL. Alright man Maybe we can set up a first year game against each other. I'm fairly certain you would win but you never know.

It's not shortsighted, it's just how online league works. People post that they are starting a league, and then the claiming begins. The "if you don't like it, leave" argument works just fine because there is nothing else to really do. If the team you want is claimed and you don't feel like trying out Eastern Missouri State, then you are under no obligation to. I don't see why anyone would want a college sim where a 5* FLA recruit is as likely to land in the middle of nowhere crappy school as they would at Florida or FSU.
I will love taking Boise State to a bowl and trying to pry some decent recruits off the list. I'd play as pretty much any school just to get in a league with this many people and one that holds such promise. I trust Cartman to run the league great and think it will be awesome, even if I don't go 13-0 and land 5* recruits as Boise State. |

I don't see why everyone would have a problem where a FLA recruit signs with a "nowhere crappy school" when the owner of the "nowhere crappy school" did a better job of recruiting than the one who runs Florida or FSU. I don't see why people would have a problem with giving EVERYONE who participates in the league an equal shot, especially after the revelation that SkyDog just gave about the "nowhere crappy school" having next to no shot even after 4 to 5 years. And, yes, Miked, what you say is shortsighted, especially since how a league works is up to the commish. Cartman says this is what the regulations will be, fine -- justify it by saying "cartman is the owner", but don't try to justify unfairness by ridiculous arguments like you just did. We've got another martyr. Suicane has informed me that he'd like to take Southern Methodist instead of Penn State.

Cartman has taken on the unenviable task of commishing a league where nearly every Division IA school has a human owner. What are we at, 70+ owners now? I don't see how anyone would think it was possible to create a league where all 70 owners had a level playing field at the very beginning. What would it take, one season where recruiting was mostly random (as you've completely removed prestige as a factor in who recruits decide to sign with) to start stratifying the teams with the lucky few who land the 4 & 5 * recruits start percolating to the top? Are we levelling everyone's initial talent, too? While we're at it, how about world peace?

I think I am going to regret starting with USC. There is really only one direction for me to manage this team (down). That said, I'm looking forward to the league. As long as we demolish UCLA, I'll be happy.

If I wanted a league that was run exactly the way I wanted it to be run, I would be spending less time bitching about it, and more time setting one up myself as the commish.

I still want in on this, and I still want my New Mexico team. Only problem is I am not going to be getting the game for a while. (No money, WSM took my only game money for a while) Anyways, hopefully the team can be held for me....if not I understand.

Does your school budget fluctuate based on games you play? What I mean is, if you are Vanderbilt and you play USC this season. Does next years budget reflect a larger amount of money from the game being televised, etc? Also, if you play 12 games instead of 11, do you make more money, i.e. have a bigger budget?
If so, that is a primary motivation for smaller prestige schools to play the bigger schools. Otherwise if you are small, stay the heck away from the biggies, because the strength of schedule is not going to work in your favor. If you don't win enough games to be bowl eligible, it does not matter how strong your schedule was. I know as a small school you could just pick just one really tough oppenent, but generally a win is going to work in your favor over making your schedule look stronger. The primary motivation for small schools to play big schools is money, then exposure, then maybe the chance to play in a location that is not so familiar. Basically, taking a trip somewhere new is a breath of fresh air. Can you imagine if LSU or Georgia had to add schools like USC, Notre Dame, Texas and Michigan all in one year, because no one else would play them? Without the ability to ease an already vicious SEC schedule, that would ensure a few more losses to the big schools and probably make some of the smaller shools bouy up a bit. Not a desired outcome, but maybe interesting all the same. I just don't have enough experience yet with how the game reacts to win/loss outcomes and strength of schedule over several seasons to know what that would be like. |

I believe I remember reading somewhere that players develop more depending on the strenght of the competetion they played. If this is true, that is a big reason for 12 games and for small schools to schedule big schools.

I'll admit, I was jazzed when I saw rafini's post, until I remembered that he was the 2nd alternate. I don't mind, though -- I might like seeing how I can do at Illinois, but I can't pass up my alma mater if it comes to me. In the end, though, of course, Comey is the 1st alternate there -- I'm not going to try to fuck everyone else's shit up, just so I can get a good team. |

For what it's worth, and what I think alot of people are overlooking, is that besides the National Championship, the Conference goals can be every bit as fulfilling and exciting. Sure you're crap team may take 20 seasons to become a national force, but along the way you'll develop rivalries with the teams within your conference and conference division.

I suspect the league doesn't want an established quitter like HA. As soon as things don't go his way, he'll find a cop out reason why the league setup is unfair, and he'll quit. Please give Florida to someone who actually likes them.

unfortunately, Florida isn't open anymore. you see, if you wanted a good team you needed to have claimed them before everyone else. i've been checking this thread on a daily basis, waiting for someone with a decent team to give up their claim. you snooze, you lose doodz.

Subby and Chief Rum left IHOF, they "established quitters"? i leave leagues when the drama outweighs the fun. i have a wife and a mortgage and limited tolerance for faggy cunts like you. simple as that. |
