I also vote no on what you proposed. I don't like changing the rules in the middle of the game. SI, are you sure that he'll be able to immediately place Wells on the DL on Opening Day?

I originally wrote more here but deleted it because it was really incoherent. Time to go to bed.

If Wells is placed on the DL, I'm pretty sure he can place him on his DL spot the next day (no guarantees, of course- it's not like I work for Yahoo and can make it happen if I'm wrong). That said, I've seen some teams play silly games at the start of the season with their 40 man roster so it doesn't always happen.

I have played quite a bit on Yahoo and I am pretty sure if he starts on DL, he should be marked "DL" when the season starts.

Yahoo and thread updated thru 13.1

LWSFS has until 1:31pm CT to make a pick tomorrow (gave an hour for spring forward). The top players on the auto-draft board are Lastings Milledge, Matt Wieters (he of prodigious expectations but starting the season in AAA- might not be who someone wants to have as he would just take up a bench spot), and Edwin Encarnacion

I am gonna vote no also. I think some good point have been made each way and i think we need to keep things the way they for the rest of the draft. It sucks that Wells is hurt but it is not the end of the world.

I'm going to be checking the board after church this morning, around 12:15 PM EST. If you're get to my pick before then, know that I'll be making my pick around that time.

It's an interesting comparison between Yahoo and ESPN on how often they update their player rankings. Honestly I thought the rankings were static but ESPN made a big song and dance when they moved A-Rod from the top spot in their rankings this week. Eric Karabell said something like "oh no, we always adjust our rankings this time of year," which I was really surprised by. Looking closely at the Yahoo rankings for some players this morning, it doesn't seem like Yahoo does that because I see Ben Sheets as the #156 player overall and he's probably out for 3/4 of the year.

And if he even comes back, he doesn't even have a team yet...

Bad news for whomever drafted Ervin Santana. He's going to miss the start of the season and perhaps a significantly longer period of time with an undisclosed injury. The Angels are awaiting the results of an MRI but that's all they're saying so far.

I think Yahoo did their rankings once sometime during the winter and then they don't start updating their rankings until the season starts. Plus, their "o-rank" doesn't move very quickly, either.

FYI, I will be gone most of the afternoon. I'm hoping CBF picks fairly soon since I got an email from Ramzavail to email him since he won't be available much of today either

Same with A-Roid. He's out over a month - gonna have that surgery.

Wouldn't this be back to back picks if he misses this one?

I know about A-Rod but figured this Santana news might be a little under everyone's radar right now.

I was surprised you didn't take Peralta a couple rounds back. I think I'm looking at the right roster and you didn't have a SS then and I know you're also an Indians fan.

I was sort of kidding. There are still a few teams that need a catcher, including my team, but I think it's funny that everyone's scared off because Wieters will start the year in the minors. He has a chance to be this year's Evan Longoria at a more difficult position to fill. I hope he'll go soon.

I don't mind talking across the table about future picks. Just consider that anything anyone says could be trying to goad people into taking someone to burn a pick or throw off people from their strategy. Anything for a friendly edge
