I agree, I think the party should have less power. I think the issue is that he's going against everything he's stood for and campaigned for over his career. It just seems like he's more concerned with getting attention than actually following through on his promises.

He's free to do what he wants, but his actions have consequences. He's said over and over that he's with the Dems on everything except the war and that he's the g to get healthcare done. Good luck getting reelected in CT with that filibuster on his resume. If he does this the only things he'll be remembered for will be blocking healthcare and cheering us into Iraq.

I doubt Reid has the balls to do it, but I hope it's made very plain to Joe that a vote against cloture will be a vote to strip him of all his chairs and committee assignments. He'd have fun as the junior member on the Committee for National Park Latrines and Trash Enclosures.

Moving forward I'd like to see a regulatory structure in place to either efficiently deal with these large institutions when they fail or break them into pieces that can't get too big to fail. Neither option, I expect, will make it through congress.

So far he's the only one to say he'd vote against cloture. Everyone's free to vote how they wish on the bill, but part of the bargain in getting committee chairs is voting with the party on procedural votes. If Joe won't do that he shouldn't get the reward of chairs.

It's somewhat refreshing that these kinds of comments are coming up about many of the long-term senators and representatives in the upcoming 2010 elections. If one of the biggest 'changes' in the Obama administration involves cleaning out quite a few of the old guys in Congress, then that's a good thing IMO.

Big news coming out of Pakistan with the terrorist bombing that has killed or injured scores of people. This is a big moment for the administration in this war. There's been growing sentiment in Pakistan to nail the Taliban hard. This will likely only further those beliefs and allow the Pakistani government to push forward even more in their offensive. If the U.S. and its allies can make a similar push from the other side, they could really put a pinch on the Taliban.

Which is why I don't understand why invest in the stock market these days. It seems like private equity, sovereign wealth funds, and hedge funds with high requirements to buy-in run these companies. You're just as better off as going to a casino and placing a bet on black at the roulette table.

No fines and making it easier on small businesses will likely be in there as well.

There's no way to increase coverage and eliminate caps and preexisting conditions without a mandate. Doing the former without the latter will result in an even greater explosion of insurance costs.

During National Native American Heritage Month, we recognize their many accomplishments, contributions, and sacrifices, and we pay tribute to their participation in all aspects of American society.

This month, we celebrate the ancestry and time-honored traditions of American Indians and Alaska Natives in North America. They have guided our land stewardship policies, added immeasurably to our cultural heritage, and demonstrated courage in the face of adversity. From the American Revolution to combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan, they have fought valiantly in defense of our Nation as dedicated servicemen and women. Their native languages have also played a pivotal role on the battlefield. During World Wars I and II, Native American code talkers developed unbreakable codes to communicate military messages that saved countless lives.
