Libermann has said he will not help to break any filibuster if public option is included in Senate bill. Didn't Reid say he had the votes to push it through? I'm not sure he does.

Is Lieberman a Republican now? He seems to agree with them more often than not.
I don't follow him that much, but I do think he's a coward for his stance on the war. Last edited by RainMaker : 10-27-2009 at 04:49 PM. |

I too dont think anyone should HAVE to vote along party lines or whatever so good for him IF that is what he believes. I think more politicians should stop being a slave to the party line whatever it is.

I agree, I think the party should have less power. I think the issue is that he's going against everything he's stood for and campaigned for over his career. It just seems like he's more concerned with getting attention than actually following through on his promises.

He's free to do what he wants, but his actions have consequences. He's said over and over that he's with the Dems on everything except the war and that he's the g to get healthcare done. Good luck getting reelected in CT with that filibuster on his resume. If he does this the only things he'll be remembered for will be blocking healthcare and cheering us into Iraq. I doubt Reid has the balls to do it, but I hope it's made very plain to Joe that a vote against cloture will be a vote to strip him of all his chairs and committee assignments. He'd have fun as the junior member on the Committee for National Park Latrines and Trash Enclosures.

So far he's the only one to say he'd vote against cloture. Everyone's free to vote how they wish on the bill, but part of the bargain in getting committee chairs is voting with the party on procedural votes. If Joe won't do that he shouldn't get the reward of chairs.

The good news is that I should get to vote against Lieberman in his next run. What a worthless P.O.S. he is. Strip him of everything, and shun him totally. I guess all the money he gets from insurance companies is more important than serving his voters.

It's somewhat refreshing that these kinds of comments are coming up about many of the long-term senators and representatives in the upcoming 2010 elections. If one of the biggest 'changes' in the Obama administration involves cleaning out quite a few of the old guys in Congress, then that's a good thing IMO. |

Big news coming out of Pakistan with the terrorist bombing that has killed or injured scores of people. This is a big moment for the administration in this war. There's been growing sentiment in Pakistan to nail the Taliban hard. This will likely only further those beliefs and allow the Pakistani government to push forward even more in their offensive. If the U.S. and its allies can make a similar push from the other side, they could really put a pinch on the Taliban.

Which is why I don't understand why invest in the stock market these days. It seems like private equity, sovereign wealth funds, and hedge funds with high requirements to buy-in run these companies. Sting: Obama best person to handle world's 'mess' - Yahoo! News
So many LOL's. The fact that anyone would care or read that article. The fact that the media isn't considered liberal. The fact that Obama probably hopes it will persuade people. The fact that it will persuade someone. (Not an LOL, a scary thought) Who the fuck cares what Sting thinks? How big a dumbass do you have to be to make a shitload of money and want the government to take more of it and spend it on bureaucratic nonsense? I don't even have a problem with him being altruistic (I definitely didn’t read the article but I am sure that has to be part of Stings “impassioned” plea) but why would Sting want to pays millions of dollars in tax dollars to "help" people when he is in fact just employing several more government jobs. Real charity would actually help people |

Having just read a rather surreal pro-Obama rant by Jim Cornette of all people, my first thought was "how in the hell do Steve Borden's political views warrant mainstream press coverage". Upon further consideration I'm guessing this involves the other Sting.

Interesting report about the stimulus package from CBS News. I don't think many people would be surprised that there were measurement errors when detailing job production.

I'll summarize the GOP bill...
Lower taxes on the corporations and give them incentives to provide better healthcare. Lower taxes on the wealthy and expect changes in insurance company practices.

I'll be disappointed if the bill does not end lifetime caps on policies, include tort reform, and eliminate pre-existing illnesses/injuries from consideration.

There's no way to increase coverage and eliminate caps and preexisting conditions without a mandate. Doing the former without the latter will result in an even greater explosion of insurance costs.
