Well...it's kind of hard to give a step-by-step tutorial when the steps change everytime.

I set it up the saem everytime, though. I use Photoshop (7)

First, use the magnetic lasso to cut out the picture to use. Then start a new image of the dimensions you want to use and paste the lasso'ed cut out in there (which automatically creates a new layer). Use the eraser to erase some of the extra stuff copied with the magnetic lasso. Go to Image -> Adjustments -> Desaturate. Now go to Image -> Adjustments -> Brightness/Contrast... and up the contrast by about 15-25. Do that about 3 or 4 (maybe 5) times to try to get the gray out. (It's ok to have some gray, but mostly you want black and white)

Select the background layer and fill it with the base color you want to use. Then select the pasted layer again and create a copy. On the top layer, set it to mode "Multiply". On the middle layer (either the original or the copy, doesn't matter, just the one that is now the "middle" layer). Go to image -> Adjustments -> Brightness/Contrast... (Before doing this, though, I suggest making the top layer invisible by clicking on the eyeball thing on the layer)

Turn Contrast all the way down, and brightness all the way up creating a complete white version of the cut out. Now shift this layer a few pixels to the left or the right, which ever side you want the white outline to be on. Now erase all of the white that is still under the cutout top layer. And "turn back on" the top layer so you can see it again.

Now you should see a solid color background, the cutout image of the face you are using in the color of the background and a white outline to the left or right.

Select the top layer and go to Layer -> Layer Style -> Satin. Change the color to White, the Blend Mode to Soft Light and up the Opacity. This makes the color of the face lighter than the background.

Next depends on what you want to add to the image.

If you want to add grunge bursh strokes to it, create a new layer on top and just paint random grunge spots (I suggest black with the opacity of the layer pushed down)

If you want to add texture to it, create a new layer on top, copy some randome pattern (rock formations work well) and set the Blend Mode to....crap I forget. I think Lighten or Soft Light. One of them.

If you want to add filter effects, do it to the background layer.

The text....just type text in there.

Impact for the text font. The star is just a cutout from a random image I found (and a few of them are the star from Pumpy's pic). I'm sure you can find a star in one of those graphical fonts, though.

No filter effect on the background layer. No texture added, no grunge brushes. Did you set the face layer to Multiply? What program are you using?

Correct on all counts. The reason being..... I couldn't find/and or understand what I was supposed to do, because I am brand new moron to Photoshop 6.0.

me again, from the glory days...oh to be an actor, now i just sell homes, havnt had an audition in months. better call my agent. won a super bowl in my SP FOF league recently. had a cyst removed from my hand. move into my parents house with the GF, her rommie, and 2 dogs while we wait for the home to be finished in the end of Sept. The plan, 1959

HD flatscreen in the FR (likely projection for more size vs. $), HD Flatscreen in the Ma. BR, and a smaller LCD HD in the BR#4 opt. / my office. Xbox there. Hot tub pad off the back, TV in it, with cable, non HD though (cant justify). Silestone counters, SS appliances at cost via the connections, Cherry cabs. Kinetico Water softener installed at discount.....etc. USFL offices located in BR#4, but during the move it'll be run via laptop from the parents house or maybe Panera anyways, just wanted to ramble a bit on what is going on with me and no better place then this thread....

perhaps the IMG needs to be img.....plus the picture has to be hosted somewhere on the net, NOT on your hard drive. IT makes sense, how would i just viewing on my computer see apicture on your hard drive? Cant, so you have to upload the picture somewhere then link the http:// addy to that....youre close

Where do you live (or where are you going to live) in J-ville? MY wife's folks live off of 295-S, between Wilson and the next exit, before Blanding. We usually visit once every couple of months.
