Ahh, well these are all play now games. I'll start my dynasty tomorrow I've decided when it should be easier to download the roster.
Anyway, as far as this play now game. They managed to make it 13-13 after playing some good defense, but my backup RB broke a long run in the beginning of the 4th to make it 20-13. Then, we stopped them and I ran the ball, repeatedy. I worked the clock down and then punted but forced them into a quick punt and we ran the clock down again all the way to 38 seconds before we punted. This brings up a negative. On 3rd and 12, we came out in a big-I form. They came out in a nickel However, they still stopped us. Fortunately, we pinned them inside their 10 and they had used up their timeouts. They tried to run a no huddle, but we got a safety after 2 quick sacks of Quinn and the game was over. Key Stats: Brady Quinn had a bad second half as we keyed in on the pass. 16 of 30 for 214 yards with 1 TD 1 INT. I think we sacked him about 6 times and hurried him a few more. Booty was 18 of 27 for 205 yards with a TD and 0 INT's. He was sacked 4 or 5 times. ND's HB ran the ball 10 times for 33 yards. CJ Gable ran the ball 18 times for 80 yards. #4 ran it once for 57 yards and a TD for me. ND's #5 led them with 6 catches for 108 yards and a TD. Jarrett led my team with 6 catches for 121 yards and a TD. CJ Gable was second with 5 catches for 32 yards as the Running backs were very viable and important receiving targets in my estimation. #40 led ND with 8 tackles, 2 for a loss, 2 sacks. Their DT #66 also had 2 sacks. The excellent Lawrence Jackson, DE, led my team with 8 tackles, 4 for a loss, and he had 2 sacks to lead the team. We blocked one of their FG's. They hit 2 including a 52 yarder. We missed a 47 yard FG and hit 2 shorter FG's. |

Dola -
The 2 full games on All American I played were both highly enjoyable. My biggest gripes: - No way that I can see to automatically sub guys out when they are fatigued. - There are some minor (to me) collision detection issues. - The CPU hasn't run enough IMO. I hope when I play a traditionally run heavy team, they will run the ball more. Many many things that I really like about the game. Top of that is the way the run game and tackling are done. I also love how good the short game feels. |

- The game seems to automatically sub for me sometimes. For instance, my HB has gotten some rest, but my CB hasn't. I don't know why. I wish there was a switch for autosub, but I haven't found one either. - No comment about the collision detection. I just haven't noticed. - Ole Miss just ran the hell out of the ball against me. I think they had 35-40 attempts. Trust me, if the CPU really feels the need to run the ball, it will.

apparently you can set sub by % per position.

As Tulsa, I am 2-0.
I beat Air Force 35-7. I should have won 28-7 but scored on a 68 yard pass at the gun. I beat BYU 28-21 thanks to 2 of my CB returning INTs for TDs. The mini games are cool. I like Tug-of-War the best. I didn't like the Option one that much. |

I just had my most pathetic game of bowling yet. The CPU was ND and I was USC and I won 34-31. At least, my defense was good

Just finished a Georgia-Georgia Tech game (edit: still on Varsity). I was Georgia and won 38-17. It was really fun and a close 17-10 affair (me winning) at the half. I just broke it through in the 2nd half as Ball had... well, a Ball type game and was intercepted 3 times, once for a 48 yard TD .
I also found the computer auto subbed for me, especially the DT I usually control.

I picked up the xbox version today. Played one quick game against my son. Me Texas A&M 44 him Notre Dame 6. He told to me to go away so he could run some drills. I'll post more info when I've played the AI, but seems good. The running game felt improved.

I believe so. I'm getting a few more of them in tonight before I have to go to bed. Pumpy, I found the settings for individual positions. It's on the main menu under my NCAA then strategy settings. However, it defaults to 60/80 for every position and I know my HB was below 40% and still not auto subbed out, so I'm not sure if that works for all games, or perhaps my HB was an anomaly. |

Nope, my two WR's and my DE are my impact players. Maybe, I was mistaken and he wasn't really below 60%. I know he was red on the play selection screen. Edited to add: I'm in an epic game of Tug of War against ND right now. I planned on playing just one quick 5 minute mini-game before bed. This game has gone at least 20 minutes..

Just finished an exhibition UNLV vs. UNR game, with me winning 12-9. I missed 2 pat's because I cant get used to the new kick meter, and one PAT was blocked, the place holder was sandwiched by the 2 de's (reminds me of how the chicken walker in ROTJ was sandwiched by those two logs). Im impressed how the receivers can now catch with consistency.

I really don't know. It would be surprising to me if they are. The 360 version got slighted with some other things so maybe the put these in there to make up for it. I can how they would be easy to create because they fit right in to the football engine. |

I'm trying to decide how many minutes to play per quarter when I start my dynasty. How many plays on average are called in a college football game?

5 Min seemed about right as far as playability for me, but not for realistic stats. 6 Min was okay, but the game seemed pretty long.
Anyhow, I just had a cool animation where the Safety horse-collared my RB and when my RB got up he threw the ball in the Safety's face. Good stuff. |

I was reading Abner's blog this morning (http://www.sportsgamer.blogspot.com/) and it said that the discipline system is not in the 360 version. Is that right? That's is reason enough for me to get the 360 version if true.

I got 2 games in last night, AA defaults using Mizzou and I find the game similar to 2004, which I loved.
Can't wait to really dig into the game, but so far it's a blast. |

This is true, and I'm glad it is gone. I'd love a discipline system IF it was properly implemented. I didn't think it was in previous versions. There are no discipline issues in the 360. |

Xbox 360 - I played a game of Ole Miss vs MSU and basically looked through everything and started a dynasty to cycle through a few years of recruiting to see how that works.
Played All American with 5 minute quarters and no slider adjustments. I beat State 17 to 7. They scored their 7 when I fumbled a punt return. It was one of those messed up situations where I was trying to call a fair catch but could not and then they hit me, I fumbled and they ran it back for a TD. You should automatically have control of the return man, so you only have to hit one button to call a fair catch, oh well. I went 5 for 8 on passing. I ran 12 times with my RB and 12 times with Shaeffer, who ran for 140 yards! There were 3 picks in the game. I threw for 2 TDs, one from 10 yards out and one from about 50 yards out. I kicked on field goal and missed one too. Somehow the State QB would throw a little dump or push pass. I could not figure out how to do it. Game play seemed okay. Rushing was not all that hard, although I did not get anywhere running outside, except with Shaeffer scrambling (he is a lefty, that was weird). Passing seemed okay. I did get sacked about 5 times. I would like to see a zoomed out camera angle, rather than the one provided (needs multiple camera angles). If you hit the B button prior to snapping the ball it zooms out some. Also, you can move the right stick right and left to look at your recievers and that helps. The documentation was horrible for a first release on new gen. I think the manual is about 4 pages long with basic controls highlighted and not much else but credits - crapola for $65. When a guy is open, he is usually going to catch the pass. Well, I really liked the animations. A couple of times I was scrambling with Shaeffer and he got popped big time. When a bigger guy hits a little guy, the physics of size seem to be in play! And he got up real slow and dragged ass back to the huddle. I liked the fact there were real pictures of the players and loved the field graphics. Vought-Hemmingway stadium looked great. The player graphics are really cool and refreshing over the old gen stuff. More plays and the new play call interface was a good thing too. I really did not test out the bomb thing to see if there was any issues there. I liked the background screen pictures on the menues. We had a band guy, cheerleader and a few pictures of players. Plus it showed the Lyceum in other shots. I may have to load up with various teams as favorite to look at the pictures. Anyway, so far it seems pretty good. In recruiting, I had a lot less options on guys to target for the in season choices. Didn't really get past that to see how it worked. Love the right trigger for speed and changing between pass and run mode for the QB. I did hit the A button a few times when I wanted juice, oops. The new controls take a little time to get used too. |

I ran across some help with the 360 controls over on OS. In case you guys don't know, you can hold down B before the snap and then move the left thumbstick toward the player you want to select. It's much easier than pressing B over and over again to cycle through players, particularly on defense. It also works on offense, too, to select a receiver to send in motion or on a hot route.
I'm having trouble remembering to press A on defense to try to swat a pass away. I keep pressing the left trigger or Y. Not good times.

Previous versions have been. I've never played past 10 years even with my favorite version which was 04. I suspect this version will be the 2nd for me where I will surpass 10 years in a dynasty, but I still doubt I will hit the 30 year mark unless I simulate some games. |

Alright. That's not a total deal breaker, but it's something good to know. I love sports game for creating large histories. I once had a 200 year universe in FOF. It's because I only go in depth a few seasons along the way, and ussually let the computer simulate the rest. But a game that is graphic based I'm sure makes it harder to go through the seasons like that.

There may be a 60 year limit to dynastys. Finishing 60 seasons is one of the XBox360 accomplishments

Yeah, 9 is what I used to use for every version, but I might go with 8 this year to cut down a tad on game time.
jb - I haven't changed anything yet. I know I'll change penalties, maybe line blocking for both, etc.. but I need many more games in before that needs to happen. Last edited by MizzouRah : 07-19-2006 at 03:28 PM. |

Wow... I should have known before, but there are a bunch of stadiums EA has put in just for rivalry games and bowl games! I didn't expect Jacksonville to be available for a Georgia-Florida game, but there it was! And you have Reliant Stadium and Ford Field (as well as the Rose Bowl, etc), which are attached to Bowl Games.

They even have specific special fields for teams with distinctive fields that don't have their own stadiums, such as Boise's Blue Field and Rutgers' Multi-Colored Grass Field (which I didn't know was the only one in the country before Brad Nessler said it in the game).

I'm playing the xbox version. I haven't really played much of the NCAA games over the years so I am not sure if this is new, but I actually saw an animation for a facemask. The defender tackled my running back pretty strangely, spinning him around. I thought it was a strange animation, then I saw the flag and the ref called a 15 yard facemask. I checked the replay and sure enough the defender grabbed the back's mask and twisted his head around, with the back's body following suit. It was just kind of neat to actually see a penalty for once, I've played a lot of Madden over the years and I don't really recall seeing penalty animations (if I did they really didn't stand out.) Also, I was worried my first two games in legend mode: There 15 fumbles between the two games. Since then I haven't had quite so many, but probably at least 2 a game. |

I remember there were animations with the facemask in Madden but can't remember if they were also in NCAA.
