Upright and cross bar in both the US and Mexico matches almost simultaneously.

The announcers were correct. The US seemed out of sorts to start the game without Bradley. They finally adjusted, but couldn't dig out of the hole from the start.

Half the team is out for Mexico. When the Mexican ref was announced, we should have seen that coming. Still no idea what Besler did.

If they lose the Mexico game, I guess the final 2 could be a bit nerve racking. Shouldn't have any problem with Jamaica at home, but the Panama one could be tricky.

Maybe it's time to give Guzan a run. When was the last time Howard looked good for this squad?

The ref should have looked the other way on Jozy, but Jozy did deserve it. Stupid on his part

Beslers card was ridic though. He put his hand on the shoulder of the "injured" CR player, but the linesman called the card, not the center ref

I really thought this would happen after they lost to Panama in the Gold Cup semifinals.

Great story, if true.

Quote:
According to one of football's most endearing fairytales, Harry Redknapp once pulled an abusive fan from the crowd and put him on the field for West Ham. This allegedly happened in 1994, but no video and scant evidence of the incident exist. Jeff Maysh chased this mystery for over a decade before finally catching up with the fan in question

Tried to get my dad to go with me to the Portugal-Brazil game on Tuesday, but the only sub-$100/each tickets I saw were for the nosebleeds, and he was like "I'd rather just come over to your place," so I guess we're just going to do that and watch the USA v. Mexico game (Brazil-Portugal is streaming online at the same time, but also is being shown on the TV on Weds).

(although do bear in mind it was quite a while ago now and was only a friendly match)

There are some other good ones which have occurred including the 'team photo' by Man Utd which a fan snuck into ... take a look here.

In a lower division match in Brazil, a team was about win the playoff when the striker beat the goalie. But the team's masseuse stepped in to make two crucial saves, before running for his life out of the stadium.

I think, there´s not much you can do here though on the pitch. You can´t just give a goal because while it´s certain the ball would have gone in, it didn´t actually cross the line. You also can´t give a penalty, because the guy isn´t part of the game.
Normally, i´d expect the game to be given to the team that was prevented from scoring afterwards in a ruling.

On a somewhat related note, things like this aren´t only happening in Brazil. In a youth game of mine ages ago a fan of the oposing team came onto the field on a bicycle and tried to take out a teammate of mine who was on a breakaway straight for the other teams goal. He got past the guy, but the ref whistled it dead... I also had a game where the other teams spectators started wacking us from the sideline with broken off tree branches.

Amateur soccer is a crazy, crazy world.

I believe that theyll disqualify the team who was helped in the situation. One could argue a player played that was not registered as such the game will be thrown out and the opposing team awarded the win.

What's up with Landon's eye? One of them looks like it is nearly swollen shut.

Nice goal - really nice set-piece .... awful defending though totally dominated by the attackers, not one of them got in front of the US line.

No he's not. He's solid, but at best he's on par with Guzan in this stage. He'll probably get to the WC next year before we move on.

Mexico were already looking a bit fragile to counter attacking, they needed the win more than the US before kick off - they're now behind and can't afford to lose ....

If they push up I could see the US getting more goals tbh.

I like Guzan a lot too, but singling out Howard as a problem seemed insane to me, and I haven't seen anything from the first half another goalie could have done better.

I'd rather play the one playing better. Plus Guzan wouldn't have a complete meltdown being benched. This kind of thinking led to Jeff Agoos sticking around for a cycle too long.

He generally has feet made out of cement and more than half the goals scored on him, that I have seen, he doesnt even try for. Timmy is playing for the highlight reel reaction save at this point in his career. His reading of the game is terrible and his complete lack of leadership skills is a a concern given our constant back line shuffling.

Everton is actively trying to find a new keeper right now too.
