So, how about those new look Hawks with Bibby.

Getting the absolute shit kicked out of them by the Lakers right now.

Rockets beat the Cavs again. Nine wins in a row, nine road wins in a row, and 13 wins out of our last 14 games (and 18 out of our last 21)...

73 points in a half. Gasol is shotting somewhere around 68% since he's been a Laker.

Maybe it changed but as of 48 hours ago ...
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3250819
...sources say Van Horn will receive an estimated $4.3 million for the rest of the season that will not be pro-rated if the trade goes through.

There's no way the trade would have gone through if it were pro-rated. This one barely passes muster as it is. And pro-rata on the amount would still be 80%, as every year starting jan 10, you can pro rate deals for the rest of the season by 1/180. 36/180 days have roughly passed at the point of the trade. I know it seems like it should be half a seasons pay for half a season, but it doesn't work like that.

Ah, the way I read it before was he'd get paid half his $4m contract. Thanks for the correction.

SACRAMENTO - Hawks point guard Mike Bibby is listed as questionable for tonight’s game against his former team here, Hawks coach Mike Woodson just told me as the Hawks began their shootaround practice.

That’s more bad news for the Hawks, who are still smarting from Tuesday night’s 122-93 head-buster administered by the Los Angeles Lakers.

Bibby hurt his right heel in third quarter against the Lakers and did not return to the game. He was on the floor during shootaround, but going half speed and wearing warm ups and a t-shirt instead of his practice gear.

I think the Hawks just have a deathwish for the Suns. First, they decide to spend money and trade for Bibby, potentially hurting the pick Phoenix gets. Next, in the one game it helps Phoenix for ATL to win (LAL in 1st of B2B with Phoenix), Atlanta lays an egg and allows the Lakers to rest half their guys.

San Antonio is looking to land Ron Artest sending Brent Barry, Fabricio Oberto, and a draft pick (TBD).

If this happens does San Antonio become the favorite to win the West?

wow I just read the Thomas deal on Yahoo after you all mentioned it here...guess the Artest deal is over.

Good news for most teams in the West as I think Artest on the Spurs would be better than Thomas there .

Well now Shaq won't even be there so does Marion get to "sub" into the old game even though he wasn't on the team when the original game took place?

I have to think this is a first where a player started a game with one team, but by the time it "officially" ended was on another.

just a funny little gem with this trade.

guess this got sorted out

The Hawks' March 8 make-up game, actually the final 51.9 seconds of a previous game, with Miami took a serious hit Wednesday when the Heat traded Shaquille O'Neal to Phoenix for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks.

The Hawks' Dec. 19 victory over the Heat was vacated after the NBA upheld the Heat's protest of a scorekeeper's error. O'Neal fouled out of the contest with 51.9 seconds to play in overtime but had only five fouls when he was disqualified from the game, not six as the scorekeeper said.

Now that he's no longer a member of the Heat, he won't be around for the replay.

"As far as I'm concerned there's no reason to even bother with the replay," said Hawks captain and All-Star Joe Johnson. "If Shaq's not going to be here, what's the point?"

The Hawks won't be that lucky. Even without O'Neal, the replay will go on. But there are stipulations.

Neither Marion nor Banks will be allowed to play. But they will be allowed to play in the regularly scheduled game, which will begin after the replay is completed.

Suns sent them two future 1sts (including this season's) + Kurt for a TPE. The move ended up saving them $16 million, but it was a rough move from a pick standpoint. Thats said, the Suns would have just sold both picks for $3 million anyway. So saving $16 million is a better return than they normally get for picks in the late 20s.

They are in a pretty darn good position already. I wonder if they'd really want to pull that string, as Artest isn't exactly their type of player in many ways(other than his defensive ability). Kurt Thomas would make a lot more sense, but I think SA has as good as anybody to come out of the West regardless. With Thomas, I'd say they would be the clear favorite.

Woulda helped if they signed Scola instead of shipping off to Houston for nothing basically though.

I'm looking forward to Shaq's first game here, hopefully he plays at least 15 minutes or so. He's always been one of my favorites but I know he's declined a bunch these last few years so I was very surprised Phoenix would make this trade. Maybe Shawn Marion isn't as good as I had thought plus the whole malcontent + soon to be free agent stuff. So I really want to see how this works out. Oh yeah and it's against the Lakers, who are much better this year and just made a big move themselves. It's only game this season I've actually thought "gotta see this" aside from the one or two times Orlando has been on national TV.

Interesting finish coming up for the Lakers and Suns. Shaq looked a little off in the first half, but looks better in the second. The Lakers don't really have anyone to guard him and doubling him leaves their other good players open. He's actually going to get close to 30 minutes so he's ready. I hope these two teams meet in the playoffs.

Lakers win over Phoenix 130-124 in a very entertaining game. Kobe was amazing (16-25 on mostly jumpers) and Gasol looked good as well. Shaq played pretty good when you consider the guy hasn't played a game in almost 2 months. 15 points, 9 boards, 2 blocks and 3 assists (but 5 fouls) in 29 minutes. Amare went nuts again with 37 points, 15 boards (6 OREB) and 3 blocks.

Atleast we know one thing after this game - it doesn't seem like Shaq will be slowing down the Suns much on offense. Plus, for the first time in eons, the Suns actually won the rebounding battle by 13. The Lakers just were deadly from the field (almost 57%) and the Suns looked lost in the first half on their defensive rotations. Any rate, these two teams look like big players in the postseason given the talent on display in this game.

So after 1 game I think I like the move for the Suns. Shaq seemed like he was playing 3-4 years younger, maybe it was just because it was the first game... I don't know, I liked it.

But damn Kobe is the best player in the NBA. Two good, good teams tonight.

Baron Davis with a dirty shot to beat the Celtics at the buzzer 119-117. GS now 12 games over and tied for 8th in the West. Celtics 1st 2 losses against the West, have PHX on Friday night, should be another fun one.

edit - nope, GS still 1/2 game back in 9th.

Shaq looked to be a presence in the interior but the Suns are actual worse on the perimeter now without the Matrix. Good game tonight but from what I could tell, the result was never really in doubt even though the Suns were the for the whole game

But with Grant Hill, they could afford to trade some perimeter playfor a solid post presence. Plus, Amare has been playing out of his mind since Shaq came. He got 6 off rebounds last night, that's triple Marion's old rate. Plus, if the rumors are right, the Suns may land Quentin Ross by day's end which pretty much negates the main loss with Marion (per D).

I meant on the defensive side. The Lakers prtty much were able to look for any shot that they wanted in the game

Looks like the Suns won't be making any moves. at this point, you have to look at the Lakers and Spurs as the overwhelming favorites in the West with the other teams (NO, Utah, Phoenix, Dallas, GS, Houston) all needing to catching lightning in a bottle to have a chance.

Can't remember the last time that so many of the trades that were rumored close to the trade deadline actually happened .

As for the Bulls move, I like it. I think Gooden can be a low post scorer and Noah can take Wallace's place. Hate getting Hughes, though. Do we really need another wing player?

Also, I like the Hornets acquiring Bonzi Wells. More offensive punch for the West leaders.

Depending upon how long those contracts are (if they didn't screw up their cap room for a few years from now), could be a good deal for the Cavs.

Ads a couple million to the cavs payroll in 09-10, basically the only real cap impact. A bit more salary added onto 0809 too, nothing that can't be traded.

According to Dave Aldridge's blog, Miami was shopping Marion...and the Cavs were listening, with Memphis being a trading partner. That would've been an interesting trade...

If the cavs aren't giving up picks, I like this quite a bit. Gooden's a dumb mofo, Hughes can't shoot. Donyell is done.

However there are some serious questions about Wallace, I think he's pretty well done too, but if he can rebound to form, he finally makes sense playing next to Z.

Hate to break it to Cavs fans but at athis point Smith is better then Ben and Ben is a malcontent who finds a way to alienate all his coaches and a lot of teammates. Gooden was the best guy dealt in that trade. I see no way Ben does anything of note with the Cavss.

classic addition by subtraction for the Cavs. I dunno what it does for this season, but it definitely should pay dividends down the road.
